ABSTRACT

It is well observed that the intestinal infection is the chief cause of Abdominal pain in children which is usually caused by intestinal parasites like worms. The study is also published and attribut-ed that the Soil-transmitted Helminths (STH) is infecting around 200 crores population of the world where the affected percentage of the children is most common. 1. INTRODUCTION

Kaumarabhritya is the branch which deals with the child health care preventive as well as curative. Children are more frequently suffering from one or the other problems throughout their childhood because of their im-maturity of the tissues. In one of the researches noted that the leading cause of stomach-ache in childhood is an intestinal infection which is caused by intestinal parasites. It is also Pub-lished that the Soil-transmitted Helminths (STH) infects around 2 billion individuals of

world’s population with mainly infected in chil-dren.1 The WHO also indicates that 870 million the children are living in the high prevalence. According to the observations, the countries like Africa, South America and South Asia are the most affected regions of the world while India have around 25% to the total worldwide cases with 220.6 million children in necessitate defensive therapy.2 In Ayurvedic texts Krimi are described very scientifically as the visible or invisible subtle organisms that affect the living & non-living things of biosphere.

Krimiroga

Description of Krimi is found since Ve-dic period. It is also found that the Infectious diseases are also mentioned in Samhita as Sankramaka, and Upsargaja roga. Now-a-days through microscope almost all microbes can be visible but in the Vedic era Germs are consid-ered as Krimi, Rakshas, Pishachas, etc. In Shabdakalpadruma Krimi is derived as “Bhramesamprasarane cha” means which moves with Pada or legs (podia).3 Charaka, Sushruta, Vagbhata, Madhavakara, Bhavapra-kasha, Bhela have given vivid description like Nidana, Bheda, Lakshana and Chikitsa of Kri-mi. Totally 20 Krimi are mentioned and are classified as Bahya and Abhyantara Krimi.4 In Kashyapa Samhita only Chikitsa of Krimi is available. Acharya Charaka described three basic methods for the treatment of Koshtagata Krimi such as (1) APAKARSANA: It includes the manual and instrumental removal of Bahya krimi and in Abhayantara Krimi Apakarsana done by Vamana, Virechana, Shirovirechana, Asthapana Basti etc. (2) PRAKRITIVIGHATA: it is inhibiting factors which responsible for the inhibition of growth and production of Krimis by dravyas. (3) NIDANAPARIVARJANA: in it all causes should be avoided which is responsi-ble for causing krimiroga like kaphavardhaka aahara and vihara like divashayana etc. There are various publications found with critical re-view on krimi roga as well as krimighna dravya of different treatise of Ayurveda.5-11 Among those Bhavaprakash Nighantu is the one of the chief lexicons where lots of drugs have been mentioned in detail for therapeutic applications. Different review papers are also available for different Group of drugs for significant thera-peutic uses.12-15

2. MATERIALS AND METHODS

2.1. Materials

Bhavprakash Nighantu was taken to explore the drugs having kriminghna karma.

2.2. Methods

The obtained data was tabulated in various sec-

tion viz. Plant Name, reference, Rasa, Guna, Veerya, vipaka, Dosh-Karma etc. Thus, the tab-ulated data was presented and interpretation of Anshanshkalpana of kriminghnadravya dis-cussed by its Rasa, Guna, Veerya and Doshgh-nata systematically.

2.3. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

To collect the information regarding the drugs mentioned as kriminghna karma in Bhavprakash Nighantu.

To analyse the drugs for the usage as an Amshamsha Vikalpana for ideal therapeutic application.

3. OBSERVATIONS AND RESULTS

Drugs from Bhavprakash Nighantu were screened for the action as a krimighna. krim-inghna karma was also described as a

“Krimighna” and “Jantunashan” synonyms of

Vidanga and “Krimighnaa” synonym of Harid-ra. Indication of various drugs in Krimiroga was described by karma like Krimiharet, krimisamuhnashana, Krimihara, Yukapranuta, Krimihanti, Krimijit, Kriminuta, Kriminashyet, Krimihata, Krimiapah, Krimipranut, Janta-vharet, Jantujita, jantughna, Yukalikshavi-nashaka etc. The tabulated drugs were analysed as per the Rasapanchaka i.e. Rasa, Guna, Virya and Vipaak and also according to Doshaghnata. Surprisingly, out of 426 drugs from Bhavpra-kash Nighantu there were 132 drugs observed to be having a Krimighna action.16 The ratio is ap-proximately one third of all documented drugs. On the other hand, it is observed that there is a large % of involvement of Katu Rasa Paradhan Dravya in most of the cases of Krimighna Dra-vya (Graph No. 01). The number is 47 out of 132. The Tikta Rasa Pradhan Dravya remains as 25 out of 132. Moreover, the Kashaya Rasa Pradhan Dravya are 19 and Madhura Rasa Pradhan Dravya are 11. The most less number is for Amla Rasa Pradhan Dravya i.e. 2. The two drugs having Pancharasa with a Krimighna Activity these are Amla Varjit Pancharasa Pra-dhan and Lavana Varjit Pancha Rasa Pradhan Dravya (each one) and one Krimighna Dravya

is Kshar Tikta Kashaya Rasa Pradhan.

There are 25 drugs whose Rasa are not documented but the Krimighna activity is men-tioned. The total observation on Rasa related Krimighna action majorly indicates to Katu, Tikta, Kashaya Rasa. It is observed that Guna which are Laghu (34), Tikshna (22), Ruksa (12), Snigdha (11), Guru (10), Sara (03) Pra-dhan drugs mostly acting as Krimiroga and drugs in which Guna were not mentioned are 39 (Graph No.02). Laghu (34) Tikshna (22) Guna Paradhan Dravya are maximum in Krimighna Karma. It is also observed that most of the drugs mentioned are Ushna Virya in na-ture (72) followed by Sheeta Virya (21) and Anushna Sheet Virya (03) and 37 drugs were not having mentioned Virya (Graph No .03). In case of Vipaka, Katu Vipaka (40) Madhura Vipaka (16) and Amla Vipaka (01) are men-tioned to have the Krimiroga Nashaka Karma and drugs which didn’t mentioned Vipaka were 75 (Graph No.04). The analysis for the effect on Dosha, Kaphapita samaka (28) Kaphava-tasamaka (27), Kaphasamak (18), Va-takaphasamak (18), Tridoshsamaka(12), Pitasamaka (05), Vatasamaka (03), Vatapitasa-mak (03), drugs mostly acting as Krimiroga and drugs in which Dosha samakata not mentioned are 39 (Graph No.05).

4. DISCUSSION

Mentioning any Karma of a drug is an art of the writer to express the action of drug more precisely and correctly. The Upasarga used by the Bhavaprakash Nighantu are haret, samuhnashana, ghna, hara, pranuta, hanti, jit, nuta, nashyet, hata, apah, Jantav’haret’, Jantu’jita’, jantu’ghna’, Yukaliksha’vinashaka’ etc. attracts a special attention which need to be understand by the physician and research. All these Upasarga indicates a special action and a part of Amashamsha Vikalpana subject to the Karma mentioned by the Nighantu. The tabu-lated drugs were studied and surprisingly ob-served that out of 426 drugs there are 132 drugs observed to be having a krimighna action. This ratio is approximately one third of all identified

drugs which indicates a wide range of anti-microbes, anti-macrobes and even ant-worms drugs covered under the wide range of Krimighna action. This is a great platform to analyse each drug for its effect on various flora of Krimi. It can be a novel contribution from Ayurveda to microbiology for screening the herbs. There is a large percentage of Katu-Tikta-Kashaya Rasa Paradhan Dravya in most of the cases of Krimighna Dravya. The indications of Rasa explained for Krimighna Karma through Rasa are matching with this reference.

Moreover, practically the vermicide, antibacterial, anti-microbial are observed for better in Katu-Tikta and Kashaya Rasa. In rela-tion with Guna the Laghu (34) and Tikshna (22) Guna Paradhan Dravya are maximum for Krimighna Karma. Laghu Guna Dravya are easy to digest and very less nutrient is made available for the microbes to growth (Static ef-fect). On the other hand, Tikshna guna opens the micro-channels, irritating actions pressurise the microbes to excrete / kill (cidal effect). The Apakarsana treatment in which the unwanted components i.e. krimi and Dosha are removed or eliminated from the body Tikshna Guna can have better actions. Tikshan Guna also pro-motes therapies like Vamana, Virechana, Shirpovirechana, Basti to expel out the krimi. The Ushna Virya pacify Kapha & Vata Dosha which is the basic promoter of Krimi in body. The Ushna Virya also promotes to release vari-ous hormones to destroy Krimi. In case of Vipa-ka ‘Katu Vipaka’ are widely accepted as a Krimighna Dravya.

This acceptance is matched with the largest number the drugs observed in the study. Katu Vipaka is Kaphashamaka and have direct action on Krimi. It restricts the nutrient value (End Digestive material) for Krimi growth. Most of medicines are Kaphapitta Samaka (28) and Kaphavata Samaka (27) having pivoting area of “Kapha”. Kapha is enriched with Kleda, Jala, Drava, Sneha, etc which is favour-able atmosphere for progress of flora for krimi. The destruction of Kapha will behave as a static as well as cidal action on all Krimi. The term

krimi has been used in broader sense and krimighna action will understood widely i.e. it includes all pathogenic and non-pathogenic or-ganisms covering wide range of infection and infestation.

5. CONCLUSION

In conclusion this study provides out of 426 drugs there are 132 Krimighna drugs observed to be having a krimighna action according to Rogaprakruti and Rogiprakruti. There is a large percentage of Katu-Tikta-Kashaya Rasa Paradhan with Laghu and Tikshna Guna, Katu Vipaka, Kaphapitta and Kaphavata Samaka activity. The inference drawn by the results of study is matching with the conceptual infor-mation mentioned in the texts. This is retro-spectively proving the ideology of Ayurveda. Further experimental and Clinical study will helpful for evidenced based information for the scientific world.
