Denpasar (Bali Post)—Investigators of Narcotics Directorate of Bali Police are still continuing to

explore the Australian underage boy with initial L Mss, 14, in alleged pos-

related to the results of investigation. Only, family of the boy desired that the suspect could be detained in Benoa Police. The investigator did not know for sure what the purpose of such desire was.

Desire of the suspect’s family was rejected by the investigators because the location requested was not appropriate. Not only in the Benoa Police, but all locations did not comply with the requirements. “We have checked all the locations. Yet, none of those meet the requirement with his status as child detainee. For a while, the suspect remained in detention room of Bali Police,” said Narcotics Director of Bali Police, Mulyadi, Tuesday (Oct 11).

According to Mulyadi, the request of suspect’s family in order their child could be detained in Benoa Police was judged unrepresentative. Thus, the suspect would consistently be detained in the Bali Police. However, he would be provided with special treatment. For example, the suspect would be sepa-rated from adult prisoners and could be accompanied by parents. “If becoming available, we will surely move him. However, having been checked all rooms had been occupied,” he explained to reporters of AMMTC, Nusa Dua.

Regarding the investigation against the suspect, said Mulyadi, so far his party was still in the process of investigation. However, he targeted the case

-tinued, it could be accomplished within this week. ”We’ve been coordinating

documents like the examination result of correction agency (BAPAS), urine test and psychiatric test,” he said.

Asked about the desire of Australian government in order the suspect could be returned home to his parents and rehabilitated, Mulyadi did not answer it. However, he explained if the Ambassador of Australia had come several times to headquarters of Bali Police just to know the condition of the suspect. “They respect the law in Indonesia. They came to Bali Police for making coordina-tion and would like to know about the development of investigation against the suspect,” he said.

According to Ketut Nica (55) bird seller at Bajera Mar-ket, Selemadeg, last Tuesday (11/10) birds demands depend on its season. If its ceremonies season the price could go up doubling the normal condi-tion of 100 chickens/ducks per day. The birds usually came from local breeders and so its health has been supervised.

Even though it’s a bit expen-sive, the quality of the birds is guaranteed and better. “In here there’s none that we take from outside area. All is local,” Nica explained.

Nica is sure that the birds sold here are relatively healthy as sellers routinely do vaccination and cage spraying to their birds

also wearing maskers. With still normal demands, sellers are not taking risk stocking in big numbers. They are worried with

would go down as experienced before. Nica hoped this bird

bird markets will keep going also not threatened to lose its customers.

The Head of Center for Nation-al Archaeological Research andDevelopment, Human ResourcesDevelopment, Ministry of Cultureand Tourism, Dr. Bambang Su-listyanto, stated to be optimisticif the four proposed sites in Balicould meet the requirements ofUNESCO to be the world culturalheritage.

“At least, one of the proposedsites could become the worldcultural heritage,” said Dr. Bam-bang Sulistyanto in the dialogueentitled ‘Sudamala Culture,’Mon-day (Oct 10). If the four proposedsites accepted, the UNESCOwould provide assistance if thesites or heritages turned damagedor undesirable things happenedto them. “Later on, though theentire responsibility is in theworld organization, the site legallyremains to belong to this country,”he said.

Bambang explained that therewere currently only three cul-tural relics becoming the worldheritage in Indonesia. They were

Relatives of convicts gathered ex-pectantly at prisons around the country and held emotional reunions with those released, a day after the country’s new civilian president issued an amnesty for inmates — many of them ordinary criminals — but without disclosing any names.

It was not clear how many of the coun-try’s estimated 2,000 political detainees were included in the amnesty. Relatives of some of them confirmed their release, while others said they were told by prison officials that their loved ones were not among those to be freed.

“The freedom of each individual is

invaluable, but I wish that all political prisoners would be released,” said Myan-mar’s most prominent pro-democracy campaigner and Nobel peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.

Suu Kyi’s National League for De-mocracy confirmed the release of 155 political detainees, including members of the party, spokesman Nyan Win said. But others may have not yet contacted anyone. A major release of political detainees has been eagerly awaited by Myanmar’s opposition, as well as foreign governments and the U.N., as a gesture toward liberalization by the elected gov-ernment after decades of harsh military

rule.A failure to release a significant num-

ber could hamper the country’s efforts to burnish its human rights record and win a lifting of Western economic and political sanctions.

President Thein Sein, a retired senior army officer who took office at the head of an elected government in March, has launched a series of economic reforms and eased limits on freedom of speech by relaxing censorship and unblocking banned websites.

He also has started a dialogue with Suu Kyi, made calls for peace with ethnic minority rebel groups and suspending a controversial China-backed hydropower dam project after a public outcry.

One of the most prominent figures to be freed was comedian and activist Zarganar, who was serving a 35-year sentence in Myitkyina prison in northernmost Kachin State.

ROME - President Giorgio Napolitano expressed deep concern about the viabil-ity of Italy’s government on Wednesday as Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi scrambled to quell an internal rebellion by calling a confidence vote. Napolitano talked of “acute tensions and uncertainties” in the center-right coalition and commentators said there was a growing possibility of elections next spring, a year ahead of schedule.

In an unusually blunt statement, the presi-dent asked if the Berlusconi government still had the necessary unity to pass urgent measures for the country and demanded that Berlusconi offer “a credible response” to the nation. Ber-lusconi planned an address to parliament either on Wednesday or Thursday before a confidence vote likely to be held the next day.

Napolitano’s statement was a clear reference

to repeatedly delayed measures to boost Italy’s chronically slow economic growth, and continu-ing squabbles over an austerity package -- passed under pressure from the European Central Bank -- to balance the budget by 2013.

Berlusconi decided to address parliament after the coalition -- racked by internal dissent -- suffered a major embarrassment when it failed to pass a key budget provision on Tuesday.

Berlusconi has insisted that failure to ap-prove the balance sheet for last year’s state spending by one vote was just an “accident” caused by the absence of several coalition members from the chamber.

But political analysts said some of those who did not vote including Economy Min-ister Giulio Tremonti, who is constantly at loggerheads with Berlusconi, stayed away intentionally to send a message about the deep malaise within the coalition.

Analysts said the government was unlikely to fall immediately but its ability to take ac-tion, at a time when the economy is under huge pressure from the markets, would be constantly hampered by internal disputes--the reason for Napolitano’s concern.

Yields on Italian government bonds are dangerously high considering its massive public debt, because of investors’ lack of confidence that Berlusconi’s government can take decisive action.

EARLY ELECTIONS“We could have a government crisis at any

time and even head toward early elections,” said Massimo Franco, political commentator for the respected Corriere della Sera newspa-per. After the government failed to pass the measure, the opposition called for Berlusconi to resign, saying the loss meant he no longer had a viable working majority.

Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe may probe top party officials who said that he has prostate cancer in US diplo-matic cables on the whistle blower website WikiLeaks, state media said Wednesday. “The president was very clear that as a party we are looking into the matter to establish the origins and authenticity of the statements regarding what WikiLeaks revealed,” said Rugare Gumbo, spokesman for Mugabe’s ZANU-PF party.

“The president said the nation has to wait until we examine the permutations of the WikiLeaks revelations,” he said in the state-run Herald newspaper. Gumbo said the party’s central committee discussed the WikiLeaks issue and that Mugabe also said some of the cables might have been exaggerated.

Several leaked US cables released by WikiLeaks exposed clandestine meetings between senior ZANU-PF and government

officials and US diplomats, which discussed several issues including Mugabe’s health which are normally not openly discussed. In one of the cables, central bank chief Gideon Gono told a US ambassador that Mugabe has prostate cancer and was advised by doctors in 2008 that he had less than five years to live.

In another cable, indigenisation minister Saviour Kasukuwere allegedly told for-mer US ambassador Tom McDonald that Mugabe and his cronies should “phase out of their leadership role.” Last month ZANU PF said the revelations by WikiLeaks are “disturbing and demoralising.”

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s party, Mugabe’s partner in a tense unity government, said it would not concern itself with revelations by WikiLeaks.

But last week a provincial committee of the party suspended deputy justice minister Obert Gutu for describing Tsvangirai as a “weak” leader in a discussion exposed by Wikileaks.

When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The celebration is very colorful. JAKARTA - Jakarta police have dealt with 304 criminal cases in operations pver the past nine days from October 1 to 9.

“There were 23 cases out of 65 targets that were dealt with,” head of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police`s operations bureau Senior Commissioner Sujarno said here on Tuesday.

He said the police had also un-covered 271 criminal cases which were not targeted in “Operation Sikat Jaya.”

The police would optimize their efforts in the remaining 20 days of the operation to deal with 42 other cases that had been targeted so far.

Sujarwo said during the op-

eration the police had arrested 605 suspects and 338 of them were held while 267 were given counseling.

The police had also confiscated as evidence cash money worth Rp17 million, two toy guns, an airs shot gun, 57 sharp weapons, 72 motorcycles and 57 cars during the operation.

Sujarno said the crimes discov-ered were mostly theft marked by violence and other special qualities, motor vehicle theft, torture, illegal debt collecting and extortion.

The Jakarta police would carry out the operation until October 30 to ensure e security ahead of the 26th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) which is to be held in Palembang and Jakarta starting November 11, 2011.

Bank Indonesia governor Darmini Nasution said Tuesday that the decision was consistent with its forecast for inflation to be under 5 percent by the end of the year.

A slowdown in the global economy would hurt Indonesia’s growth but not as badly as some other Asian economies that are more export reliant such as Singapore, Taiwan and Malaysia.

The bank raised the rate by a quarter point in February because of higher inflation after holding it a record low of 6.5 percent for 18 months.

JAKARTA - As ASEAN moves toward the realization of the ASEAN Community in 2015, and achieving the Millennium Devel-opment Goals, efforts are also underway to ensure correspond-ing commitment and support in advancing measures outlined in the Roadmap to an ASEAN Com-munity, said officials at the 33rd Meeting of ASEAN Agriculture and Forestry (33rd AMAF).

Sundram Pushpanathan, the Deputy Secretary-General of the ASEAN Economic Community, highlighted several achievements of the Meeting, the ASEAN Sec-retariat said in a press statement here on Tuesday.

The meeting discussed cross-cutting issues in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries - involving the enhancement of food secu-rity, responding to the impact of Climate Change, cooperation on sectoral and priority issues, and strengthening partnerships with dialogue partners, international organisations, and private sec-tors.

One is the formalisation and signing of ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (AP-TERR) Agreement.

“This agreement is very im-portant in our work to respond to disaster and provide humanitari-an assistance, particularly among ASEAN plus China, Japan, and Korea,” he said.

The Ministers have also sup-ported a Special Ministerial Event to commemorate ASEAN and International Year of For-rest 2011, as well as the First AMAF-Private Sector Dialogue on Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries.

“The side event on forestry leveraged the profile of the ASE-AN Cooperation in Forestry, and recognised the support of various partners in achieving ASEAN key initiatives, while the dialogue with private sectors was the first to be conducted in the region. The Ministers agreed that this dialogue was very important in bridging the needs and expecta-tions of both public and private sectors,” said Pushpanathan.

“I could see the look on the first paramedic, saying ‘Oh my God,’” Toronto emergency medical services Commander David Ralph said with a laugh.

Officials said none of the injuries were considered life-threatening, but that was far from apparent when rescue workers first arrived at what appeared to be a horrific scene. The victims’ gory zombie costumes made it difficult for crews to assess the severity of the actors’ injuries, said Peter Macintyre, Toronto emergency medical services spokesman.

Paramedics responded to the call from Cinespace Film Studios around

8:30 a.m., and Toronto Police Sgt. Andrew Gibson said responders quickly figured out which zombies were injured and which were just in character. “It did kind of catch us off guard when we walked in,” he said.

Twelve victims were taken to a hospital. One actor suffered a cracked rib, one a broken leg and one a pos-sible back injury, the film’s producers said. Police Constable Tony Vella said the actors had been filming a scene on a high wheeled platform. The platform moved as they were going to another platform, leaving a gap into which the zombies fell.

The film’s producers, Davis Films/

Impact Pictures (RE5) Inc., Constantin Film International GmbH, issued a statement that said the accident in-volved background actors. They said a 4-foot (1.2-meter) high platform sepa-rated from the set, creating a gap.

Seven of the injured have already returned to the set, they said. “Resi-dent Evil: Retribution” is the fifth installment of a franchise based on the popular video game series and will be distributed by Screen Gems and Sony Pictures.

Lead actress Milla Jovovich was not on set at the time of the accident, ac-cording to her representative Christine Tripicchio. Vella said the incident is clas-sified as an industrial accident. Ontario’s Ministry of Labor is investigating.

“They are sending an inspector and an engineer,” said ministry spokes-man William Lin, adding that about 50 workers were on the platform when it moved.

BUDAPEST - Hungarian police have seized a stockpile of weapons that was shipped to the Hungarian capital for the production of a film about zombies starring Brad Pitt, a film crew member said on Tuesday. Weapons expert Bela Gajdos, who has worked on the filming of zombie movie “World War Z” to ensure the safe handling of the weap-ons used, told national news agency MTI that each firearm had been converted to restrict

its use to blank ammunition.Gajdos added that the weap-

ons were completely harmless and had already been used on a shoot in London. World War Z, a big-budget horror film directed by Marc Forster and slated for release in 2012, recently shifted filming to Hungary from Britain.

“We had a police permit to bring these guns into the coun-try,” Gajdos told MTI, adding that the production had con-tracted arms experts to establish whether the guns complied with Hungarian laws. But the

guns were seized before experts could inspect them. Adam Goodman, the producer of the film, was not immediately available for comment.

Janos Hajdu, the chief of the Hungarian Anti-Terrorism Center on Monday said the agency seized a large stockpile of weapons, which arrived from England on a chartered plane. He could not confirm whether the weapons were intended for the World War Z shoot.

The National Bureau for Investigation, which took over the case, said in an emailed

reply to Reuters questions that it was conducting an investi-gation for abuse of arms and ammunition, but would not release any further details.

The weapons included hand guns, machine guns, high-precision sniper rifles, hand grenades and a large quantity of high-caliber ammunition, according to photos and a video released by the Anti-Terrorism center. According to the video, some weapons could be re-converted to use live ammunition by removing a single screw.

NEW YORK - Actress and filmmaker Penny Marshall, who transitioned from her role as tough-talking Laverne in hit TV show “Laverne and Shirley” to become a pioneering female director, is releasing a memoir about her rise in Hollywood, her agent said on Tuesday.

Marshall, 68, has sold the rights to her autobiography, called “My Mother Was Nuts,” directly to Amazon.com Inc, her agent Dan Strone said. The book will discuss her former 10-year marriage to fellow director Rob Reiner, her friendships with John Belushi and Art Garfunkel, and her battle with brain and lung cancer in 2009.

“People have always asked me how I got from the Bronx to Hollywood, so I thought it was time to tell how it all happened. I have had many lives (not in the Shirley MacLaine sense) and

you will hear about them all ... Just don’t expect any recipes ... I don’t cook,” Marshall said in the statement.

After playing Laverne De Fazio in the hit show “Laverne and Shirley,” which was co-created by her brother, producer and director Garry Marshall, the actress went on to direct such film hits as “Big,” “A League of Their Own,” and “Awakenings.”

The memoir will discuss her humble roots growing up in the Bronx, New York, to her relation-ship with her brother Garry to her turn behind the camera and deal-ings with actors such as Robert De Niro and Tom Hanks. It will be published in print and e-book form in the fall of 2012.

The decision by Marshall’s agent to sell the book to Amazon Publishing reflects the online re-tailer’s push to expand its opera-tions and compete directly with other book publishers.

For the unmanned test flight, it will be carried into the skies by WhiteKnightTwo, the carrier aircraft for the commercial subor-bital passenger ship SpaceShipTwo, backed by Virgin Galactic, a U.S. company owned by Richard Bran-son’s London-based Virgin Group.

The test flight was added after privately held Sierra Nevada got a $25.6-million boost to its existing $80 million contract with NASA.

The test flight will take place from

either Edwards Air Force Base in California’s Mojave Desert, or from the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, Ed Mango, manager of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, said at a community briefing at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

With the retirement of the space shuttles this summer, NASA is now dependent on Russia to fly astro-nauts to the space station, at a cost of more than $50 million per per-son. The agency hopes to turn over

crew transportation services to one or more commercial firms before the end of 2016, Mango said.

In addition to Sierra Nevada, NASA is funding spaceship devel-opment work at Boeing Co, Space Exploration Technologies, and Blue Origin, a start-up firm owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. “Hav-ing only one way to get crew to the station is a limitation,” NASA astro-naut Mike Fossum, who is currently living aboard the outpost, said during an in-flight interview last week.

The station, a $100 billion project of 16 nations, was finished this year after more than a decade of construc-tion 225 miles above the planet. The outpost, which is about the size of a five-bedroom house, supports a variety of scientific research and technology demonstrations.

LONDON — BlackBerry’s woes spread on Tuesday as the smartphone’s maker reported service disruptions for a second straight day in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and fresh prob-lems in Latin America and India.

Research in Motion Ltd., which makes BlackBerry devices, ac-knowledged there were ongoing problems Tuesday, hours after it said services were operating normally and the cause of delays in subscriber services a day earlier had been resolved.

“Some users in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, India, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina are experiencing messaging and browsing delays,” the company said in a statement, adding that it is “working to restore normal service as quickly as possible.”

Research in Motion Ltd. also apologized for “any inconve-nience,” as Twitter and the Internet lit up with condemnation over a de-layed response to problems some users had reported for hours.

In Britain, Vodafone UK told

customers via Twitter that service was not fully restored. Rival T-Mobile UK blamed “a European-wide outage on the BlackBerry network” which it said was af-fecting all mobile operators. There were also reports of problems elsewhere in Europe, such as Spain.

In addition, the disruptions were experienced in the Middle East and Africa. Etisalat, which operates in the United Arab Emir-ates, apologized for “the further interruption” to Blackberry ser-vices, “once again due to RIM problems.”

And Kenya’s Safaricom Ltd. said on Twitter that its Blackberry customers were experiencing a “technical fault,” while South Africa’s Vodacom told subscribers the issues were affecting multiple networks and countries.

There were no reports of any problems in the U.S. Angry smart-phone users took to Twitter to vent frustration with the company and bemoaned the loss of their mes-saging capabilities, questioning why the company took so long to restore services.

CHICAGO — There is more evidence that taking vitamin E pills can be risky. A study that followed up on men who took high doses of the vitamin for about five years found they had a slightly increased risk of prostate cancer — even after they quit taking the pills.

Doctors say it’s another sign that people should be careful about us-ing vitamins and other supplements. “People tend to think of vitamins as innocuous substances, almost like chicken soup — take a little and it can’t hurt,” said lead author Dr. Eric Klein of the Cleveland Clinic. The study shows that is not true.

“If you have normal levels, the vitamin is probably of no benefit, and if you take too much, you can be harmed,” Klein said. Men ran-domly assigned to take a 400-unit capsule of vitamin E every day for about five years were 17 percent more likely to get prostate cancer than those given dummy pills. That dose, commonly found in over-the-counter supplements, is almost 20 times higher than the recommended adult amount, which is about 23 units daily.

The results mean for every 1,000 men who took vitamin E, there were 11 additional cases of prostate cancer, compared with men taking dummy pills.

The study was actually launched to try to confirm less rigorous re-search suggesting vitamin E might protect against prostate cancer. Overall, about 160 of every 1,000 U.S. men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime.

Risks increase as men age. De-tection can be tricky since symp-toms such as frequent urination can also be caused by harmless conditions, and doctors disagree about the benefits of screening tests. Treatment is also complex since some slow-growing prostate cancers are not deadly but some procedures, including surgery, can damage sexual function and cause incontinence.

Former world heavyweight champion David Hayeis poised to retire from the sport after the British Box-ing Board of Control said on Tuesday the Briton wasnot renewing his licence.

professional boxer’s licence,” Board general secretaryRobert Smith told Reuters.

The retirement plans were questioned by theKlitschko camp with promoter Bernd Boente say-

minutes ago” the Briton would return to the ring

brothers.“The option is still there. It really depends only

on the business case,” he told Sky Sports News. “Weare in constant contact, we are still awaiting somenumbers from British TV and then we’ll see if thebusiness case is realistic.”

He said Vladimir’s older brother Vitali, the WBCworld heavyweight champion, was the most likely

opponent and that if a fight was to take place itwould be in February or March.

“A rematch (with Vladimir) makes no sensebecause there are no questions after the first fight, you can only promote a fight if there is a thrill,”Boente said.

“Against Vitali it’s a different thing, Vitali has atotally different style. Vitali said after the fight hewanted to finish what his brother didn’t do, meaningknock out David Haye.”

Haye, whose trash-talking before the July fightangered both Klitschkos, blamed the defeat on abroken toe and had suggested he would be preparedto postpone retirement if the Ukrainian agreed toa swift rematch.

That defeat was Haye’s first in seven years andleft his record at 25-2. Before joining the heavy-weight division, Haye was the unified cruiserweightchampion.

Haye’s representatives were not immediatelyavailable for comment but local media reportedthe Briton was planning a news conference forThursday.

The Klitschkos hold all the major championshipbelts in the division. The brothers have said theywould not fight each other.

Hamilton has not finished on the podium since winning the German Grand Prix in July, and has been involved in a series of on-track incidents during that time - while his team-mate Jen-son Button has taken two wins and pulled away in second place in the championship.

But Neale said McLaren was giving Hamilton maximum sup-port rather than putting pressure on him to rediscover his form. “Lewis’s biggest critic is him-self,” said Neale in a Vodafone McLaren Mercedes phone-in teleconference.

“He desperately wants to win and he’s understandably not happy when either his team-mate beats him, or somebody else is winning the race or the championship. He’s seen this championship slide away to Red Bull. He’s tough on himself and he’s massively disappointed. We’d be disappointed if he

didn’t feel that as well.“Lewis is a phenomenal

driver. He’s had 16 race wins. He’s constantly exciting on the circuit, always in the action and we love him for that. “Certainly I’m concerned to make sure that he feels and understands that we’re 100 per cent behind him, and this team certainly is. The workforce here love everything about Lewis Hamilton.

“We want to take care of him. It’s been a difficult season for him. We didn’t really give him the car to get the job done this year, but what he’s done with it has been fantastic.” Neale said the factory staff at McLaren were keen to have a chance to emphasise their continued belief in Hamilton.

“The sense of the workforce is that they’d like to see more of Lewis,” he said. “With the flya-ways recently we haven’t been able to get him back as much as they’d like. They’re very keen to

make sure that he understands and feels the warmth and the love from this end.”

He also warned against read-ing too much into short-term form and the press criticism Hamilton has received recently. “You do have to remember that professional sport - as the Eng-land rugby team will be feeling when they read the papers - is a brutal business,” Neale said.

“One of the journalists there wrote that it’s a sport where the winners are deified and the los-ers are vilified. “We can all turn round and say ‘where’s Lewis?’ but the reality is that he’s a re-ally quick driver. He’s a really nice guy and he puts his heart and everything into it.”

Hamilton only finished fifth in last weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix, while Button won the race. Neale believes McLaren ham-pered Hamilton by misinterpret-ing data that led to him making an early first pitstop on lap eight.

“We have to look to ourselves in the team as to why he wasn’t able to get the performance out of the rear tyres that Jenson was able to get,” said Neale.

VALENTINO Rossi is confident he and Ducati can continue to make progress in Australia after describing Motegi as one of the team’s ‘most positive weekends’ despite crashing out on the opening lap. Rossi’s en-thusiasm stemmed from his performances prior to the race, notably in qualifying when he was in conten-tion for the second row of the grid until the final seconds.

That hinted at genuine gains for Duca-ti, who will carry the set-up changes from

Japan into this weekend’s race at Philipp Island - a circuit Ducati has finished on the podium in every year except one.”At Motegi, despite the

outcome of the race and what the consequences

of the crash turned out to be, there

were a number of positive as-pects,” Rossi, who also has to contend with a

finger injury sustained at

Japan, said.“We worked

well on the bike’s balance and setup, and in the end, from that point of view, we had one of the most posi-

tive weekends of the season. “Phillip

Island is another track where the Ducati has always gone well, as have I, so we hope to be able to work as well as we did in Japan.

“As far as my hand is concerned, the swelling is reduced, and we still have a couple of days before we go on the track. We just have to wait for Friday morning to see how it reacts.” Team-mate Nicky Hayden, who holds the circuit record at Phillip Island, said he was also eyeing a strong race performance at a circuit on which he has fared well in the past.

“Phillip Island is definitely one of the highlights of the year, because everything about it is special,” Hayden explained. “It’s fast, flowing and really fun to ride. “Casey [Stoner] has won a lot of races there for Ducati, and I should have been on the podium there last year, except that I left the door open for Vale to beat me.

“It’s a good track for me, and although I know it won’t be easy, I really hope we can do well. I’ve got Simoncelli coming for me in the points, but I’m not really thinking about that. I’d just like to try to get a good result on Sunday, when it counts.”

McLaren to ‘take care of’ Lewis HamiltonMcLaren managing director Jonathan Neale says

Lewis Hamilton should have no doubts whatsoever about the level of support for and understanding of him within his team, despite the 2008 champion’s current run of difficulties.
