Decanting wine into a carafe reveals the full potential of the wine, but also elevates a young, everyday wine to a more interesting taste experience.

Arne Jacobsen created the Royal series for the bars and restaurants at the SAS Royal Hotel, for which he also designed all the other furnishings, including the Swan and Egg chairs.

It was rooted in a philosophy of creating complete concepts where every aspect was re-thought and designed from scratch. A common theme ran through the building, the furniture and the interior.

For the SAS Royal, he created not only the world-famous armchairs, but also lamps, textiles, door handles and a series glasses now being re-launched in its entirety by Holmegaard

Nearly sixty years later, the seven glasses ex-press the architect’s aim of bringing pleasure to dining experiences. Wine, aperitifs, cock-tails, beer, schnapps, and liqueurs – all made in the ‘fine glass’ quality, as a tribute to every-thing good in life. The Royal series are the only glasses known to stem from Jacobsen’s hand. All glasses in the series bear the architect’s signature sandblasted on the base. It’s a small tribute to a man with big ideas.
