Intercultural Pre-College for Refugees at the University of the Arts (UdK) Berlin November 7th, 2017 through January 25th, 2018 What is in the course program included? The Intercultural Pre-College for Refugees, taking place November 7th, 2017 through January 25th, 2018, covers inten- sive communication training on the one hand and academic as well as practical orientation for studying arts, music and design in Germany on the other. A) Theory: Introduction and reflection of studying arts, music and design in Germany (50 hours) What are the implications of university education in Germany? How do studying arts, music and design differ from studying those fields in oth- er countries? How and why to apply scientific methods in creative stud- ies? How and where does studying of arts take place: in seminars, lectures, group sessions, one-to-one classes, in workshops, studios or in rehearsal rooms? Where do you get help if you are a study applicant and student from abroad? B) Practice: Communication tools and cultural competence for studying (84 hours) Learn and practice how to: deal with every-day-situations and use German media – cope with typical communication situations at the university – read German texts and practice reading and understanding strategies – write in German for diverse purposes – present your projects and academic topics in German – know how to give feedback – work project oriented in groups. C) Mentoring (40 hours) Individual guidance and counseling, talks with students of the UdK Berlin, group activities and excursions to the art and cultural scene of Berlin. Successful participants receive an official document after finishing the intercultural pre-college courses at the Berlin University of the Arts. What is not part of this course? • No portfolio counseling, no audition • No guidance on how to prepare an artistic portfolio for application • No exam preparation for a specific language certificate • Still we can guide you to such kind of information or give you hints how to find the right offer for your needs. What is in the course program included?

The Intercultural Pre-College for Refugees, taking place November 7th, 2017 through January 25th, 2018, covers inten-sive communication training on the one hand and academic as well as practical orientation for studying arts, music and design in Germany on the other.

A) Theory: Introduction and reflection of studying arts, music and design in Germany (50 hours)What are the implications of university education in Germany? Where and when takes the course place? Who are the teachers?

How to Apply? What are the criteria of admission?

The course covers 10 weeks from November 7th, 2017 on. Classes take place every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9:30 to ca. 14 h. Group ac-tivities in the Berlin cultural scene are part of the course and will take place every Thursday afternoon. Additionally, counseling and visiting programs at study sites at the UdK Berlin will be offered on individual basis outside the above announced course times. At the end of the course participants will be offered a special visiting program at studios and rehearsal places of the UdK Berlin.

Course venue: UdK Berlin, Bundesallee 1-12, room 104Course opening: Tuesday, November 7th, 2017 at 9:30 h there.

What rules are set out for participants?Participants are obliged to be present and active in the course units on a regular basis, after having been admitted to the Intercultural Pre-Col-lege „How to study Arts, Music or Design in Germany“. Official final doc-ument on attendance will be awarded to participants who took active part in 80% of all announced pre-college units including mentoring activities.

There is no tuition fee. The course is funded by the DAAD in the framework of INTEGRA program 2017/2018.
