ANNUAL REPORT
Fiscal Year 2012/2013July 1, 2012 - June 30, 2013
Reflec ng on this year, I’m reminded that Intercambio is not an ordinary English language program. Sure, we teach English. But we also provide a venue for people to come together. Friendships form. Hope is inspired. Understanding blooms. We are transforming Boulder County.
And we owe it all to you.
Because of your support, we’ve been able to touch lives, build confi dence and open minds – in more ways than ever before. Parents are involved in their children’s educa on. People are securing jobs. Leaders are being formed.
There are many successes to celebrate this year, but we s ll have hundreds of people on our wai ng list for classes. So we invite you to help us conquer once again. Help us reach new people, break down walls, and build bridges across divides. We invite you to join us in uni ng our community.
Many thanks,
Lee ShainisExecu ve Director

“I realized that our rela onship is not really like a classroom teacher and a student, but rather like a friend sharing informa on with another friend. Quite a diff erent situa on than I had imagined.”
- Bill Atkinson,Intercambio Volunteer
“Other schools have teachers and students......but Intercambio has friends.”
Inna Ponomaryova has a degree in So ware
Engineering from Ukraine but was afraid to take
a professional refresher course to catch up in her
fi eld because her English was “so bad.” She is
now taking community college classes with the
support and encouragement of Intercambio.
UNITING YOURCOMMUNITIESWhat sets Intercambio apart from other English programs is our focus on building rela onships• Led cultural awareness trainings for more than 600
community members• Facilitated Uni ng Parents workshops, where 112 parents
from diff erent cultures worked together to solve challenges in their children’s classrooms
We organized intercultural events that served over 5,000 people in 2012/2013 including:• Culture Jam featuring Grammy-winning
Ozomatli for 1,700 people• The 12th annual La Fiesta for 1,000 people• Intercambio Camping Trip for 200 people• Various monthly events like ice ska ng,
square dancing, and hiking
In the current economy, nonprofi ts must have grit to survive. Inspired by our volunteers and donors, we’re selling our English language curriculum and teaching resources across the na on. By selling our resources, we are becoming more fi nancially sustainable. If the government shuts down, we’ll be able to keep our doors open. And we are helping other organiza ons start or improve English programs in their ci es. Now that’s forward thinking!
...ALL BECAUSE OF YOU
The Pennsylvania Deptartment of Health has
distributed 7,300 of our resources, in seven languages
The Cobb County School Districtin Georgia has distributed 1,700 of
our resources
The Metro Nashville Public Schools in Tennessee have
distributed 5,500 of our resources
Since 2010, Intercambio has distributed 100,000 copies of our English language resources(Immigrant guide, English language curriculum, and English pronuncia on booklet) to 500 agencies, organiza ons and partners in 45 states.
The numbers on the map represent the number of
partner organiza ons that we work with in each state
