    Another academic year has passed with many achievements and sweet memories for the members of TJGI. We have forged ahead and achieved new heights whether in academic excellence or extra-curricular

    achievements. The stage is set for us to strive harder and keep up the good work. This is also the time when we have had new additions to our T. John Group of

    Institutions. I welcome all the new members to our family. We provide ample opportunities for academic and extra-curricular excellence and I urge all the new members to make use of the opportunities to the best of their abilities. Time runs fast and the best way to make it count is not only working harder but also smarter to achieve your goals within the given time frame.

    niju abraham, a B.A (JEP) IV Sem student of TJC has made a Tele Film in Malyalam named GREEN. The story goes through the perspective of a girl who came to a typical Kerala

    country side village from a metro city to spend her summer vacation with her grandfather. Niju is the scriptwriter, editor and director of the forty minutes short film which was released on June 15, 2013.

    t. John institute of technology has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence as A+ Category Engineering College of India for the year 2013 for being in the 10th Place under the Students Admission Category by the Business & Management Chronicle. This brilliant achievement was also published in the May 2013 (Vol. 17) edition of the magazine.

    It is the start of a new academic year and I would like to take this opportunity to welcome the new batch of students who have joined T. John family this year. T. John Group of Institutions is a centre of learning excellence and our achievements stand testimony to that. I hope that the new batch would emulate their seniors and make use of all the opportunities that are provided here and go further than their predecessors in their academic and extra-curricular achievements. Our faculties and staff are here to prepare you to face the challenges ahead, guide you in your academic journey and get you ready for all walks of life.     On 27 May 2013, the official website of T. John Group of Institutions www.tjohncollege.com was officially launched by Wg Cdr (Retd) P. Sambasivan in the presence of Dr. Shikha Tiwari (Principal, TJC), Dr. Padmanabha S (Principal, TJIT), Prof. Neelavathi (Principal, TJCN), Dr. G P Prabhukumar (Dean, TJIT), Sri. Joseph Vaseegaran (Academic Administrator, TJGI), Sri. Rajesh Naik (Head Marketing, TJGI), Ms. Vijaya Sriram (Admission Officer) & Prof. Krupanidhi (TJCP).

    The first website of the college www.tjohncollege.com was launched on 24th September 2002. As early as

    2002, T. John were the pioneers to use internet as a medium for spreading the awareness about the college and its courses, with features such as online application, student grievances, video and blog. The website was initially developed using traditional php language which is having limitations for todays growing needs of website content, hence a need was felt to switch over to a more versatile and flexible open source platform.

    The new website is based on Content Management System (CMS) and is developed using Joomla, the worlds most popular CMS platform.

    Group Event

    Career GuidanceDr. Ruby John and Jyothi R., faculty of TJCN conducted career guidance in Loyola PU College at Kalainagrahara, Bangalore from May 78, 2013. Sixtynine students and parents attended this session and learnt about many options available for their future.

    Occupational Health and Safety Training ProgrammeTJCN conducted an Occupational Health and Safety Training Programme June 24, 2013. Dr. Dinakar, Director and trainer from Vitals Health Care was the resource person. It was attended by all staff and students of M. Sc (N), B. Sc (N) and PB B. Sc (N).

    International Mothers DayOn June 10, PBBSC Nursing students from OBG Nursing Department organized International Mothers Day at Aeraka PHC. The students

    organized an interactive session talking on health issues and creating awareness amongst the mothers at the PHC under the guidance of HODS Monica Paul and GT Sartaj Fathima.

    Family Planning ProgramObstetric and Gynecological Nursing Department of TJCN organized a family planning programme in Jayanagar General Hospital on May 11, 2013. It was organized by the students of II Year M.Sc Nursing and I yr P.C.B.Sc Nursing students were guided by Sartaj Fatima (HOD, OBG Dept.), Jayanthi G (Assistant Professor), Silvester Sugirtha (Assistant Lecturer) & Nalini (Assistant Lecturer).

    International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit TraffickingOn the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking which is June 26, the Department of Psychiatric Nursing of TJCN organized an awareness programme for the housekeepers of TJGI on drug abuse and illicit trafficking. Students of III Year B.Sc (N), II Year PB BSc (N) and II Year M.Sc (N) arranged power point presentations, skit, videos, myme and dance on the ill effects of alcohol, smoking and drug abuse. 28 housekeepers participated and gained information regarding the ill effects of using drugs.

    Visit to Dr. Agarwals Eye HospitalFirst year Pharm. D students of TJCP visited Agarwals Multispecialty Eye Hospital, Bangalore on May 31, 2013. Students got to know sophisticated medical instruments such as LASIK, laser instrument, eye refractometer, eye angiography unit etc. The hospital displayed a live laser operation too.

    Guest Talk by Dr. SriharshaDr. Sriharsha, Senior Manager from Biocon, Bangalore delivered a guest talk on Drug Discovery Process and Technology Transfer in Pharma Industry on June 22, 2013. The session delved on the research status of anti-HIV and anti-cancer drugs, overview of chemotherapy of drugs and their mechanism.

    Easter Day CelebrationStudents of TJCP conducted belated Easter Day Celebration on April 4, 2013. It was an occasion for students of different communities to know the importance of Easter Day and to be a part of its celebration.

    April 27, 2013. 250 participants from 18 different colleges from around Bangalore showcased their talents and skills in front of a jam packed auditorium. There were 12 fashion teams, 10 group dance teams and 20 solo dance contestants in total.

    Mime Performance by TJC The Drama Club Nautanki under the Literary Club presented a mime performance, The Hero on April 19, 2013. The mime was organized by Niji Nelson with assistance from Nagarathna M.L. and Mariamma John. It was directed by Akshay from IV Sem B.A. (JEP). The mime was based on the life of an Indian soldier who sacrifices his comforts to save the lives of the millions of Indian people and finally gets martyred for his motherland.

    Director Wing. Comdr. Retd. P Sambasivan, HOD of TIMS Bindiya Gadiyar and all faculties attended the ceremony and wished the students a bright future.

    Management ActivityDr. Chitra Devi arranged a team building exercise with the aim to bring forth the creativity of students and make them value the aesthetics of team work. Students were divided into groups and were tasked with creating an innovative greeting card using any theme for any occasion. Every team was given a blank but colored card on which they had to portray their creativity after deciding on the theme unanimously. The event saw many creative ideas and thoughts brought forward and the winning team was the one that displayed the best creative team work.

    Farewell Party Farewell party was organized by III B. Pharma students of TJCP for IV B. Pharma students at Radiant Resort, Bangalore on June 29, 2013. It was an occasion for the seniors to share their views and experience with their juniors. Cultural events and games were organized by juniors for the seniors. A token of love and remembrance was given to each of the IV B. Pharma students on this occasion.

    t. John CollegeInduction ProgrammeThe Induction Programme for the UG students was held on 19th of June, 2013 in TJC. The programme was attended by revered Fr. Eldho, Dr. Thomas P. John, Wg. Cdr. (Retd) P. Sambasivan, Dr. Shikha Tiwari, Dr. Nilanjana Basu, HODs of various departments, faculty members, students and their parents or local guardians. The programme began with an address from Fr. Eldho. All the dignitaries

    participated in the lamp lighting ceremony. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Shikha Tiwari. Dr. Thomas P. John and Wg. Cdr. (Retd) P. Sambasivan addressed the students and made them aware of their role and responsibilities as students. A brief introduction regarding T. John College was given followed by various departmental presentations, a presentation on students welfare and grievances, club activities as well as on the rules and regulations of the college. The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Nilanjana Basu. The programme ended on an optimistic note with the message that students have to make the utmost of the opportunities that are given to them for which they will have to work with great sincerity and dedication.

    Lecture Sessions by the Faculty Members of TJC The lecture sessions by the teaching staff of TJC started on April 8, 2013 through which the faculty members shared the knowledge that they had gained by attending or participating in several conferences, seminars and faculty development programmes. The sessions were presided by the Principal of TJC, Dr. Shikha Tiwari and the Vice Principal Dr. Nilanjana Basu. These sessions were organized by Dr. Sindhu from the Department of Biosciences.

    The first session began with Pooja Basnett from the Department of Languages who shared her knowledge regarding Journalism and film making. Nagarathna M.L. from the Department of Languages shared her knowledge regarding Positive Psychology and means of spreading happiness and positivity around us. Satish Kumar from the Department of Hotel Management shared his knowledge regarding wine making, storing, serving, smelling and tasting with the audience.

    The second session was held on April 9, 2013. It began with Jayaprabha from the Department of Computer Applications as she shared her knowledge regarding the developments required in a modern day teacher to cater to the demands of the new generation students. Suresh from the

    Department of Hotel Management spoke at length on the same topic and made the audience aware of the sweeping changes that are required in the mind-set of modern day teacher in order to keep pace with the modern day students. The final presentation in the session was done by Jyoti Byaratti from the Department of Management Studies on a research paper jointly written by her and her colleague Charul Aggarwal. The presentation was based on Ambush Marketing as a marketing technique borrowed from the field of military tactics and used by corporates in order to market their commodities.

    Birthday Celebration of Prophet Hazrat AliIraqi students of TJCP celebrated birthday of Prophet Hazrat Ali, cousin of Prophet Mohammed Ali on May 24, 2013. Faraz of III B.

    3-Day Intensive Workshop on Human Resource PracticesTIMS MBA students participated in a workshop on HR practices which was conducted from May 14-16, 2013 by Anand Hengal. The topics covered were competency mapping, performance management system and compensation and benefit planning. It was an interactive session complemented with role-plays which had to be done by the participants.

    Cyber Security and Ethical HackingAnkit Fadia is an independent computer security consultant and author. Fadia describes himself as an ethical hacker, and has written several books on the topic of computer security. Ankit conducted a seminar on Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking on April 26, 2013 for the students of TIMS. He spoke on how companies like Google collect users personal information, search patterns and store them on their servers. He also spoke on the topic of proxy servers which are used to mask an individuals IP address and ways to trace another persons IP address. Ankit also delved on the malicious Trojan viruses and methods used by terrorists to encrypt messages onto a picture and transmit it.

    TIMS Bags Second Prize in Cacciatore EventTJIT organized management fest ESPIRIT for all MBA students across Bangalore colleges from May 21-22, 2013 on the 21st and 22nd of May 2013. The fest consisted of the following events such as Cazador (Marketing), Venator (Finance), Jager (Human Resource), Lovec (Business Quiz), Artemis (Best Manager) & Cacciatore (Cricket)TIMS students were the runners-up in Cacciatore event.

    A Seminar on by Keshav from Edukart.ComTIMS organized a seminar on May 24, 2013 conducted by Keshav whos a Lead Executive in Edukart.com, one of Indias leading education company. Keshav explained the various factors of getting an value added program where they offer a number of programs to mould ones skill sets and knowledge. Edukart offers

    online programs on a wide range of subjects with certification. Its most popular programs include post graduate certificate course, telecom management certification, project management training, digital marketing certification, retail certification, financial certification and skill development.

    Industrial Visit to Coca-Cola Beverages Ltd.TIMS had organized an industrial visit to Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd, Bidadi on June 9, 2013. MBA II Sem students were accompanied by faculties Jabez and Dr. Chitra Devi.

    The Bidadi centre is a manufacturing unit for Coca Cola, Thumps Up, Fanta and Limca. The students were shown the different processing units, their unique functions, the automation of processes as well as quality monitoring standards. The visit was an eye opener for many as the unit showcases the work that goes behind into making the worlds favorite beverage drink.

    O. L Ameer Ajwad Interacts with Sri Lankan Students Following the Graduation Day Ceremony on April 20, 2013 the Chief Guest Mr. O.L Ameer Ajwad (Actg. Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka for Southern India) interacted with the Sri Lankan students of TJGI along with Dr. Shikha Tiwari (Principal, TJC) and Dr. Nilanjana Basu (Vice Principal, TJC). Sri Lankan students did a presentation about their achievements in the institution followed by a speech by the Chief Guest. Mr. Ameer Ajwad appreciated the Sri Lankan students for their achievements in T. John Group. He stated that this was his best interaction with the students of Sri Lanka in India and thanked T. John College for providing him this opportunity.

    Graduation Day 2013 Graduation Day 2013 was celebrated on April 20, 2013 in TJC and TJIMS. The occasion was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest Mr. Omar Lebbe Ameer Ajwad who is the Actg. Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka for Southern India, the Chairman of TJGI Dr. Thomas P. John, The Advisor to TJGI Retd. Wg. Cdr. D.A.K. Yohan, the Campus Director of TJGI Retd. Wg. Cdr. P. Sambasivan, the Principal of TJC Dr. Shikha Tiwari along with the Vice Principal of TJC Dr. Nilanjana Basu, HODs and other faculty members. The students were there for the occasion with their parents and well-wishers.The Principal administered the oath to the students. The students with outstanding academic performance Juhi Verma from BBM (TJC), Reshma Dev from BBM (TIMS), Thejaswini M.C from BCA (TJC), Johny Kiran from BHM (TJC) and Umanga Nathali Galaitiyawa from B.Sc. FAD (TJC) were awarded by the Chief Guest. The Popular Teachers Award was given to M Sridhar Krishnan from the Department of Hotel Management by the Chairman of TJGI. Febin John James from II Sem BCA was awarded for his laudable achievements in the field of Computer Applications. All the final year students

    were called up on the dais and given their college leaving certificates by the dignitaries. This was followed by a cultural extravaganza for

    the entertainment of the guests.

    The Popular Lecture Sessions The Popular Lecture Sessions was organized in TJC on April 10, 12 & 13, 2013 and was presided over by Dr. Nilanjana Basu, Vice Principal of TJC. On April 10, 2013 Arun Kumar from the Department of Management Studies initiated the session and delivered a lecture on Investments in Stocks in India. His lecture was followed by a presentation on Flower Arrangement by Bandana Singh from the Department of Hotel Management. The session ended with a knowledge sharing lecture by Niji Nelson on Teaching A Mixed Ability Class of Students.

    On April 12, 2013, Nagarathna M.L. from the Department of Languages presented on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy on Anxiety and Weight Management in Obese Women. Her presentation was followed by Dr. K. Nithyas presentation from the Department of Biosciences. The topic of her presentation was Mycotoxins and their Chronic Effects on the Human Body.

    On April 13, 2013, the session began with a presentation by Mohana from the Department of Quantitative Techniques on the Theory of Golden Ratio which is found in human beings, animals, plants and architectural structures such as the ancient pyramids. It was followed by a presentation on Fashion Accessories by Yashaswini.

    Rock the Campus by Radio Indigo 91.9 FMRock the Campus hosted by RJ Sriram of Radio Indigo 91.9 FM in association with Mega Mart, rocked the campus of T. John College with the participation of students from both TJC and TIMS on June 27, 2013. The students enjoyed the event by dancing, singing, taking part in competitions such as: Dress the Mannequins, Fact or Bull-crap, Battle of the Sexes and JAM. The program not only laid a platform for the hidden talents for TJohnites but also marked a memorable moment in TJC. The program was co-ordinated by the Bioscience Department under the guidance of Babu N.

    Industrial Visits: II and IV Sem MCA along with the HOD Mohini

    Bhat and senior faculty Jayaprabha from the Department of Computer Applications visited the Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Bangalore on May 17, 2013. Students got an opportunity to know more about Supercomputer PARAM and some technical aspects of its server and its current applications.

    IV Sem MCA along with senior lecturersJayaprabha and Jobin Scaria visited ISRO on April 1, 2013. Students were able to view satellite models such as Aryabhatta, PSLV, GSLV and the various subsystems used in making a satellite.

    Department of managementHuman Relations Practices in the Industry Aravind Warrier, Senior Manager, HR, Timkens India Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore delivered a talk on Human Relations Practices in the Industry for II Sem MBA students on May 3, 2013. It was organized by Department of Management Studies in connection with Workers Day, celebrated on May 1st every year. Aravind stressed on what is expected from management students in the current market like the importance of statistical analysis, MS excel, communication skills and inculcating good habits such as watching business news channels and reading business magazines. Other topics were projects that they should take up during the course, to develop innovative and creative thinking among

    Human Resource Practices in Production OrganizationTJC conducted a guest talk on May 02, 2013 on Human Resource Practices in Production Organization. The resource person for the event was V Nagaraj, Vice-President, HR (Retd.), TTK Prestige Ltd, Bangalore. Nagaraj is an HR veteran with more than 30 years of industrial experience and he covered HR related topics in its micro and macro aspects. The session was made interesting with anecdotes, interaction, live stories etc. He spoke on 5Ds-Direction, Dedication, Determination, Discipline,

    and Deadlines to succeed and manage better. Management students from TJC and TIMS, TJC Management Director Dr. Loganathan and faculty members from various institutes participated in the session.

It was conducted by Hemanath, an expert in tea training programs for hotels and bars across the world.     Visit to SOS Childrens VillageII and IV Sem BA (JEP) students were taken to the internationally renowned NGO SOS Childrens Village at Hulimavu, Bangalore on April 2, 2013. They were accompanied by Psychology lecturer Nagarathna Dewakar and Language department faculty Mariamma John. The students were taken around the serene premises by the officer of the organization who helped in clarifying the doubts of the children and in providing a better understanding about it.     Graduation Day 2013Graduation Day 2013 was celebrated on May 16, 2013 at TJIT. Dr. H G Shekarappa, Registrar of VTU was the Chief Guest of the day.     The day had a project exhibition by final year students and a farewell party for them.     Industrial VisitDepartment of ECE emphasizes on overall development of students and as part of this, VI Sem ECE students were taken to Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd. on April 5, 2013 accompanied by faculties, Karthik and Kanakaraju. BHEL was established in 1964 and is engaged in the design,

    engineering, manufacture, construction, testing, commissioning and servicing of a wide range of products and services for the core sectors of the economy, viz. power, transmission, transportation (railway), renewable energy, oil & gas and defence. Students could gain an overall idea about how transmission system works and how power is distributed to the houses.

    On the same day, M-Tech students went to IISc, Bangalore accompanied by two lecturers Arjun and Drakshayini.

    CEO-Shadowing ProgramOn May 9, 2013, a group of 9 students from IV and VI Sem Computer Science & Engineering, TJIT visited SAP India, Bangalore to attend the CEO-shadowing program organized by Global Shapers Karnataka. It was addressed by Mr. Shashi Kumar, Managing Director of SAP India.

The II and IV Sem Psychology department students were present on the occasion.     Time Talent SearchAs part of an initiative towards preparing students for placement and providing them with an insight into higher education opportunities, the TIME group held an orientation session and aptitude test on April 20, 2013. The Time Talent Search was organized by the Department of CSE. The aptitude test was followed by a one hour presentation on how students could prepare for the GATE examination.

    May 29, 2013Trump Trainers & Consultants, counted among the fastest growing human resource consulting firms in the country organized campus recruitment in TJIT. Students were provided with a brief about Trump Trainers & Consultants recruitment process and career growth process which was followed by interviews. 60 students of TJGI and 25 students from AMC and City Engineering College attended the drive. 12 students were selected from TJGI for the final round.

    Seminar on Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking Department of MCA, TJIT in association with IndiaCan, Bangalore organized a seminar on Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking conducted by Mr. Ankit Fadia, a certified ethical hacker and worldwide recognized computer security guru for the students of TJGI on April 26, 2013. Dr. A M Nageswara Yogi, HOD, MCA along with his faculty members welcomed the Guest

    of Honour Mr. Ankit Fadia and Mrs. Shobha Chandrashekar, Centre Head, IndiaCan. Dr. S Padmanabha, Principal, TJIT, presided over the function which was also attended by Wg Cdr (Retd) P. Sambasivan, Campus Director and G P Prabhukumar, Dean.

    Mr. Ankit Fadia spoke on the many ways in which computers connected to the internet are hacked, illustrating them with many case studies. 522 students from TJIT, 80 students from MCA (BU) and 56 students from TIMS attended the seminar.

    Project EXPO 2013Department of MCA participated in Project Expo 2013 organized by TJIT by showcasing 37 projects completed by VI Sem MCA students in partial fulfillment of their MCA degree. The project Secure Data Sharing System, an intranet project for BHEL developed by Ms. Simi Koshy,

    student of VI Sem MCA under the guidance of Dr. A M Nageswara Yogi, Professor and HOD, MCA got a cash award of Rs. 1000/- from the panel of experts.

    Visit to IISc, BangaloreDepartment of MCA organized a visit to Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore on May 24, 2013 for the students of II Sem, MCA to familiarize themselves on the latest innovations and research done at IISc. The students visited the Super Computer Centre where they were given a demonstration on computer technologies and later they were taken to the library. Mr. Joseph Vashegharn, Administrator arranged transportation for this visit. Mr. Sunil Kumar M, Associate Professor, Mr. Vineet MK, Assistant Professor, Ms. Roopa LC, Assistant Professor and Mr. Channabasava, Assistant Professor accompanied the students.

    TJCN Cricket Champions T. John College of Nursing Cricket (men) team won the trophy in ESPIRIT-2013 cricket tournament organized by the department of MBA from May 21-22, 2013.

    TIMS Cricket Runners-upT. John Institute of Management Sciences Cricket (men) team was the runners-up in ESPIRIT-2013 cricket tournament organized by the department of MBA from May 21-22, 2013.

    TJC Cricket Tournament 2013 Department of Physical Education & Sports, TJC conducted inter class and inter departmental cricket tournament from April 16-17, 2013. The inauguration function was attended by Dr. Shikha Tiwari, Principal of TJC, Dr. Nilanjana Basu, Vice Principal of TJC and Joseph Vaseegaran, Administrator of TJGI. The inter departmental cricket tournament saw 16 teams participating. MBA team from TIMS was the winner and was awarded the championship by Dr. Shikha Tiwari. MBA team from TJC was the runners-up. Hearty congratulations to Mr. Govind Kumar (Physical Education Director) and his team for creating a wonderful platform for the students to exhibit their sporting skills.

    International Soccer League 2013TJCP organized International Soccer League 2013 from April 13-15, 2013. More than 20 colleges participated in this event. The Chief Guest for the programme was Arumainayagam, an Asian Gold Medalist and Guest of Honour was Sampath K, Asian Bronze Medalist and former goalkeeper of India. In the finals, the Sudan Association beat Ankle Breakers by 4-2. The winning team went home richer by Rupees 25,000 along with a trophy and the runnersup received a cash prize of Rupees 10,000. Free styling football was performed by Peter and Yogendra, Indian Olympic Football team participants.
