Integrated Building Automation Solutions for Operators

2 We reserve the right to make technical changes.

Comfort or efficiency? Beckhoff Building Automation lets you have it both ways.

Real-estate operators are faced with incompatib-le tasks on a daily basis. Because these individu-als are responsible for operational management, they must ensure both the availability and required level of comfort of a building, as well as ongoing optimisation of utilities consumption and operating costs. This task is often made more difficult owing to lack of transparency, inade-quate documentation and complicated operating concepts. Beckhoff crosses this divide: PC-based control of all building systems enables clear and transparent usage and reliable operation.

Convenient monitoring and IoT integration– PC-based control from Beckhoff

PC-based control enables the decoupling of all building functions from hardware and imple-ments them in software instead. This not only simplifies planning and implementation, but also operation and, at the same time, provides increased efficiency. Operators have the benefit of central monitoring; should errors occur, they receive direct feedback from all systems so preventive maintenance and ongoing energy optimisation are simplified as a result. Reducing hardware increases availability, while the possi-bility of browser-based remote control reduces staff costs. Moreover, any Beckhoff control sys-tem provides connectivity to the IoT world, which means that operators have already secured the basis for future operating models with PC-based Building Automation.

Maximised availability. Minimised operating costs.

One control platform for all building systems – This makes everything easier.

PC-based control enables integrated automation of all building systems in functional buildings and infrastructures – from single-room control to window control to shading, lighting, HVAC MCI, smoke and heat removal systems, access control, energy monitoring and process visualisation. This simplifies both engineering and operability. Docu-mentation is updated automatically in the case of conversions and diagnostics are readily compre-hensible for employees at every skill level.

Energy levy? Not an issue for you anymore with Beckhoff.

Beckhoff Building Automation ensures that the highest energy efficiency classes are satisfied. As an operator, this means that building is ready for Building Automation and Control efficiency class A of the European Standard EN 15232 and also “ISO 50001-ready” – exempting operators from energy levies.

Nuremberg exhibition grounds, Hall 3A

Exhibition company, NürnbergMesse, has featured a new highlight since spring 2014: The glass facade of Exhibition Hall 3A is illuminated by 11 LED light strips extending to a length of 880 m. The system is extremely easy to operate, with a Beckhoff Embedded PC used to make sure the right colours (e.g. in line with the company‘s corporate design) appear at the right times and in the right places. Enormous data volumes must be processed to display 16.7 million colours, so EtherCAT communication is used to ensure real-time data transmission.

Frankfurt/Main Airport, Germany

The Working Group of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering for State and Local Governments (AMEV) produced a BACnet directive in 2011. This was in relation to tendering for public contracts in Germany, containing recommen-dations on the functionality of BACnet-certified equipment in terms of object types, services and machinery labelling. Beckhoff BACnet controllers are tested in accordance with the AMEV profile AS-B (BACnet Building Controller with extended requirements) and were certified by AMEV in May 2014. To be qualified as a vendor for Frank-furt/Main Airport, however, further tests were required. After completion, Beckhoff has been included into the group of building automation cooperation partners of Fraport together with system integrators Hermos AG and is approved to submit tenders.

Wastewater treatment, ZWAV, Germany

German utility, “Zweckverband Abwasser und Wasser Vogtland” (ZWAV) supplies about 250,000 citizens with fresh drinking water daily. Process automation of the wastewater treatment plants is managed by a Beckhoff control plat-form, consisting of an Industrial PC with Control Panel, Embedded PCs, TwinCAT automation software and I/O terminals. Standardised control according to the guidelines of PLCopen and the IEC 61131 standard ensures the reusability of hardware and software in the event of future enhancements, and simplifies system handling.

Modular expandable building automation systems remove the need for specialised personnel.

Building operators rely on future-proof building automation systems. Functionality modifications must be realised quickly, simply and without significant cost overhead. The use of a building automation concept from Beckhoff paves the way for enabling this type of functionality at an early stage. Enhancements can be realised quickly, easily and cost-effectively with a single control platform for all building systems and a modular range of software and hardware components. As enhancements are being designed, TwinCAT Building Automation software can be used to configure the required hardware assembly in one go – the so-called eXtendable Room Box. This solution is fully prefabricated on delivery and can be installed quickly and easily without the need

for specialised personnel. In addition, PC-based Building Automation provides operators seamless connectivity to ERP systems.
