InsurTech[Composition of <Insurance> and <Technology>]

There is no official definition for this term. In essence, it

describes new companies that offer customer focused,

insurance-related services using technological tools.

Such a distinctive separation of InsurTechs seems hardly

possible. A subjective selection is made on the following charts,

although there is no claim to completeness.

Here, we are looking at German-speaking countries.


#1 The number of start-ups that focus on insurance products is growing. In addition to players

active in the area of sectoral cover, more start-ups are concentrating on the redesign of

traditional products.

#2 The market for contract managers is flatlining. Many business models are changing from B2C

to B2B2C. InsurTechs relies increasingly on cooperation.

#3 In terms of claims, new providers are supporting greater transparency and regulation in the

interests of their customers.

#4 Two further community-based InsurTechs have entered the market and are pursuing a peer-to-

peer approach, even if their approach is very different and sometimes even on a blockchain

basis.

#5 The trend in 2017 is moving clearly in the direction of "digital insurance companies". Six new

players are currently in the BaFin licensing phase. Although digital insurers are mainly working

on "green field sites", innovation is to be predominantly found in the processes rather than in

the products"
