Guidance Note 2Storm:- Premises located on a sea front or at the top of a hill, for example, may be more susceptible to storm damage.Impact:- Premises located at the foot of a busy hill or on a sharp bend, for example, may have an increased risk of impact damage by traffic.

Guidance Note 3By law, there is a duty upon owners of buildings – or anyone who has responsibility for buildings – to ensure fire safety at the premises. You will have to complete a risk assessment and record the significant findings of such an assessment. Full details and further information– including a simple guide to fire prevention – can be found at: http://www.communities.gov.uk

Guidance Note 4General health and safety risk assessments should be carried out by all companies regardless of the business activity. It is therefore, recommended that written assessments of risk are carried out and continually updated. These documents should be retained by thepolicyholder. A free copy of the leaflet ‘Five Steps to Risk Assessment’ is available from the Health and Safety Executive website:http://www.hse.gov.uk

Guidance Note 5If you will be a ‘hands on’ Partner or Director rather than in an administrative role, please provide details of any experience orqualifications that you have obtained in the care and supervision of children. Please see Guidance Note 6 for details of qualifications orexperience.

Guidance Note 6Although parents/guardians are present and responsible for their children at all times, you and your staff have a monitoring andsupervisory role within the indoor play centre. It is, therefore, a requirement that at least one in three of supervisory and monitoring staffon the premises have at least 2 years experience in the care and supervision of children or hold a child care qualification. A combinationof staff experience and qualified staff is acceptable. Experience may have been obtained in working in a similar environment, in a nursery,in a playgroup, in a school, as a nanny or as a childminder either in a voluntary or paid capacity. A relevant qualification could be e.g., acourse in childminding, an NNEB or NVQ etc. Staff not employed in a supervisory or monitoring role, e.g. on reception or in the kitchenarea, should not be included in the minimum one in three staffing requirement. If neither of these criteria can be met, the relevantnumber of staff would need to be enrolled in a suitable course. Course details can normally be obtained from local colleges, anIntroduction to Childminding or Pre School Practice courses, for example, would be acceptable. We are aware that course availabilityvaries to locality and any such arrangements would be the responsibility of the policyholder. ROSPA also provide a one day course whichincludes child development and the importance of play.

Guidance Note 7All supervisory and monitoring staff should be checked using the Criminal Records Bureau who can be contacted on www.crb.gov.uk.There are umbrella groups available who will carry out checks on your behalf and details again can be obtained from the CRB website. There are different levels of checks and due to the nature of your business a Standard check is required. If a check has been carried out bya previous employer in the last 12 months this would be acceptable. Any adverse responses received as a result of the checkmust bereferred to Morton Michel immediately.

Guidance Note 8Inspections: - Must be carried out daily and any relevant action taken prior to opening to members of the public.Maintenance: - Must be carried out by an industry specialist, as recommended by the manufacturers or as necessary if a fault isidentified and requires immediate attentionCleaning and sterilising: - Must be carried out on a regular basis or as necessary.

Guidance Note 9Whilst we appreciate that most staff at children’s activity areas are employed in a supervisory and monitoring capacity we would require aminimum of 2 members of staff on the premises for the first 40 children present and one further staff member for each 20 childrenthereafter. This would also apply for the duration of children’s parties. Employees in a reception or kitchen role should not be included inthe supervisory or monitoring staff numbers.

Guidance Note 10For the purposes of this insurance, Annual Turnover equates to your Annual Gross Revenue, i.e. all of your income from thechildren’s IndoorPlay Area (in whatever form) before deduction of expenses, taxes, wages or National Insurance payments.
