The Vee Quiva Hotel & Casino Olympic Games were created six years ago to celebrate the work that casino housekeepers do on a daily basis. This year, the event will take place on November 16th starting at 7:30am in the Vee Quiva Event Center.

“The Vee Quiva Hotel & Casino Olympic Games has grown over the years, and we are excited to welcome teams from all three shifts to showcase the hard work the housekeeping team does,” said Rowena Nelson, Housekeeping Manager. “We are very appreciative to have our General Manager Jeff Martin and VQ Director of Facilities Ron Brown as the official judges once again this year.”

The event pits teams of casino housekeepers against each other as they compete in four events: the toilet paper toss, urinal screen run, cart rally and the roll towel rally. The annual event is designed to celebrate the work of casino housekeepers and foster teamwork among the team members from all three shifts.

November is one of my favorite months of the year. Autumn gives way to great weather in the valley and reminds us of all that we have to be grateful for. As we begin the holiday season, I reflect on the many ways my career path has led me to Gila River Gaming Enterprises, and I am reminded how fortunate I am. We should dedicate more time in our busy lives to reflect on all the positive things we have that are often times overlooked in an effort to keep up with everyday life.

I would like to thank all of the Gila River Gaming Enterprises team members who help to make the Enterprise the thriving entertainment destination it is today. From humble beginnings, the team at Gila River Casinos has created a truly unique offering to our guests. Your hard work and dedication is key to this creation. Each year we continue to raise the bar and achieve the goals set in front of us, this year is no exception. We have earned new guests, created new offerings through our expansion efforts at Lone Butte Casino, and expanded our promotions. Thank you for all you do to make Gila River Gaming Enterprises a leader in Arizona gaming.

Job Duties: I have a huge leadership responsibility in the cage. Our team is responsible for safeguarding the Enterprises cash assets, while complying with federal cash reporting requirements and ensuing that all policies and procedures are being followed by our team.

Favorite Part of the Job: My favorite part of the job is being able to work in a team environment in the cage. I have developed so many new relationships with the team members and members of the Gila River Indian Community. We also get to connect with many of our guests on a whole new level because of all the training opportunities that are afforded to team members at Gila River Casinos.

BENEFITS MAKE A DIFFERENCE OPEN ENROLLMENT IS QUICKLY APPROACHING. YOUR ONCE A YEAR OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN ABOUT YOUR BENEFIT OPTIONS AND TO MAKE CHANGES, ADDITIONS OR DELETIONS, WILL BE NOVEMBER 10TH TO NOVEMBER 23RD. CHANGES WILL BE EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1ST, 2016.

The Payroll Department would like thank all team members for utilizing the new NovaTime system. Having the cooperation of team members not only saves time, but it also helps reduce the amount of paper we use each year. Reducing the amount of paper we use supports our ongoing green efforts. We have saved over 176,500 sheets of paper by not printing punch detail reports, hourly summary reports, leave forms and accrual balance sheets. Additionally, we will save 8,350 sheets of paper on salary timesheets and 14,500 on direct deposit vouchers. That is a grand total of nearly 200,000 sheets of paper each year!

On Saturday, November 7th, Gila River Casinos will once again partner with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help raise awareness in the fight against blood cancers including Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and Myeloma. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society makes cures possible by providing patient support services, advocacy for life saving treatments and the most promising cancer research in the United States. Volunteer to walk with the Gila River Casinos team today and become part of this great cause.

PAPERLESS PAYROLL

The holiday season is in full swing and this means that Gila River Casinos will be kicking off its annual charitable drives. This year, we are proud to partner with two Gila River Indian Community organizations, the Gila River Fire Department (GRFD) and the Gila River Residential Program for Youth (RPY). Items collected during these two drives will help meet the needs of the children in the Gila River Indian Community. Collection bins will be available at all three properties in the team member dining rooms and at the corporate center beginning on Monday, November 16th through Friday, December 17th.The Holiday Toy drive is organized by the Gila River Fire Department who will be collecting toys for all ages. The Residential Youth Program will be collecting hygiene products including socks and undergarments.
