SINUMERIK 828D with UltraVNC-Viewer and Notebook

In many cases it may be useful to transfer the SINUMERIK HMI on an external monitor, be it a notebook, a monitor or other display or projector. In particular, for training purposes or presentations is a great representation of SINUMERIK HMI very helpful. About the RJ45 Ethernet port on the front of the SINUMERIK 828D a connection between the controller and notebook will be established using the UltraVNC Viewer. The SINUMERIK HMI appear as an extra window on the notebook. This signal can be transferred to another monitor or other display. A detailed description of the procedure can be found in this document.

1. Introduction

To display the contents of the SINUMERIK HMI on an external display, you need a physical connection and special software, which transfers the image of the controller (server) to another laptop / computer (client). From the notebook or the computer the signal can then be passed on to another monitor / display. UltraVNC (even Ultr @ VNC, UVNC) is a Virtual Network Computing software for Microsoft Windows operating systems and is used for remote maintenance of computers. This has powerful techniques for intercepting the server screen (SINUMERIK HMI). From the client (laptop / computer), the controller can be operated remotely and via mouse and keyboard.

To transfer the SINUMERIK HMI to an external monitor, you need the following components:

• SINUMERIK 828D

• Network cable (connecting SINUMERIK 828D and notebook / computer)

• External monitor / screen / display / TV

• VGA / HMDI cable (connecting laptop / computer to the external display)

• notebook / computer with a Windows operating system

• UltraVNC-Viewer (OpenSource Software www.uvnc.com)

The following descriptions are intended for operators of CNC machines who have experience with or knowledge of the SINUMERIK CNC with SINUMERIK Operate user interface. Basic knowledge of network technology and experience with the Windows operating systems are helpful.
