Founder

It is with great love that I coordinate this project. It fascinated me because it deals with education and creates opportunities.

Thinking about teaching values, we created the hand methodology, because the hand is what we use the most while playing basketball. Each finger representes a value: team spirit, discipline, commitment, determination and humility. And between them, in the palm of the hand, love. All of them united make the team stronger in search of a common goal.

The project has as amazing growth in what we know of sports and it makes us proud and hopeful that sports can be back to school and develop greatly also in a social perspective.

Instituto Superação’s mission is to contribute to the personal education of the young, developing key values for life through the integration between competitive sports and education. Competitive sport is key to our process because it is through it that one learns the importance of training, discipline, determination, one learns to win, to lose, to overcome limits and, especially, to work as a team, because, at the end of the day what matters is the team and not the individual.

I owe so much of what I am today, in my family and professional life, I have no doubt, to the opportunity I had as a teenager to actively participate in a competitive sport, which is as important as formal education in young people’s development. When you unite sports and education, it is a very strong approach.

We want to make Instituto Superação live for many, many years, to make this project grow and reach many other places, much more schools, many young people. Our ambition is to make sure that the values of sport are present in people’s education.

TEACHER TRAINING

We created a methodology for teacher training that has 7 modules, with theoretical and practical classes, instructing, this year, 31 teachers from public and private schools.

We performed evaluations on the first and last day, to mesure each professional’s development. The results can be seen on the chart on the right.

“Instituto Superação provided me many good things. GRADES AND ATTENDANCEInstituto Superação holds dear the athletes evolution inside and outside the court, their use of the key values that are teached though competitive sports in other areas.

We closely followed the 285 participant athletes of the development cornerstone to understand and measure how the basketball practices influenced their behaviour as a whole, and we had amazing results on non-attendance decrease and grade improvement thoughout the year, as shown on the chart on the left.
