With five of the best teams in the NCAA lining up against them, the Orange were arguably playing their toughest season opener ever. There was a similar situation in 2010-11 when ‘Cuse opened against No. 8 New Hampshire, No. 9 Boston College, and No. 10 Providence. Syracuse went on to be the runner-up in the CHA Tournament that year, losing, 5-4, to No. 4 Mercyhurst. SYRACUSE RANKINGS - Kelli Rowswell is one of 35 skaters to score a short- handed goal thus far. As a unit, ‘Cuse has won more than they have lost (361-355) FRESHMEN UPDATE - First-year center Brynn Koocher (0-2-2) has been a notable presence at the faceoff dot in her first season. Koocher has won 43 of her 94 face offs (.457), the fourth- most on the team behind Lauren Bellefontaine (129), Savannah Rennie (89) and Kelli Rowswell (65). - Blueliner Mae Batherson (2-4-6) has been rolling with junior defender and team point-leader Jessica DiGirolamo (4-5-9) since the season started. - Anna Leschyshyn (2-2-4) got on the score sheet early this year, scoring a PPG in game two at No. 3 Clarkson. She added a second against Union on Oct. 29. - Madison Beishuizen (0-4-4) moved from the fourth line to the second in game two against No. 3 Northeastern. She’s recorded four assists and 24 shots on the year, with two of her apples coming on the power play.
