WELCOME TO the latest edition of Inside Line for the 2016 Perth SuperSprint! This year we’ve changed the way we share our Doric and Cowdroy V8 Supercar Racing programs with you. Bigger and better than ever before, we’ve teamed up with front-running V8 Supercar outfit Tekno Autosports for the 2016 season.

We’re very proud of these changes to our 2016 program. After introducing ALG sister company Cowdroy to our motorsport program last year, we’ll again see significant Cowdroy branding on the outer livery of the #19 Holden Supercar.

Doric branding will also feature on the inside of the racer and will be seen right around the world via the series extensive television coverage.

We are also pleased to be able to continue our long relationship with V8 Supercar driver Will Davison, who will be behind the wheel at Tekno this year.

It’s great to have Will on board once again as our Doric brand ambassador for the sixth consecutive year. He is such a big part of our racing family and we look forward to standing beside him during this new venture at Tekno.

We are also continuing our support of our longest running ambassador; motorsport legend John Bowe. We have supported JB in the Touring Car Masters series for many years and we are excited

WELCOMEto watch him strive to back up his 2015 series win this year. JB is entertaining, engaging and a legend who continues to deliver value for the Doric business.

ALG is proud of our various associations in motorsport, with the 2016 season marking Doric’s 12th year delivering money can’t buy experiences for our valued clients and staff.

Our sponsorships have taken our brand exposure to a new level and helped raise the professionalism and image of the Doric brand. Now we hope to continue this exposure for Cowdroy.

Motorsport is competitive, exciting, passionate and innovative. The team here at Doric and Cowdroy stand for all the same great values.

We hope you enjoy the Perth

One year ago, the Alchin Long Group moved into a brand new facility in Sydney’s West, setting up headquarters to home the company’s rapid expansion in the hardware and building industry

FAMILY-OWNED and operated business, The Alchin Long Group (ALG), is now calling a new Sydney location home, making the move to a larger and better equipped facility to accommodate the business’ rapid expansion in the hardware, building and construction industry.

The brand new purpose-built facility encompasses state-of-the-art industrial design, manufacturing, testing and research capabilities, enabling ALG to cater to its customers and the industry in an even more efficient manner.

Providing a wide range of products and services, including building equipment, outdoor furniture and home repairs, ALG moved to a 12,000 m2 site in Wetherill Park, Sydney, one year ago where over 250 staff members work across the business’ five brands; Doric, Cowdroy, Azuma, Colonial Castings and Lock & Roll.

The move has enabled the group to consolidate and further leverage all of its valuable resources, talent,

knowledge and skills from each of the five brands into one central location.

The new facility has also allowed greater collaboration between ALG staff across its five brands to ensure the group can continue to grow and offer superior quality products and services to the construction, hardware and building industry, and its customers.

According to Group CEO, Nigel Long – who is part of the team of family members running the business – just one year on from the move to the facilities ALG has been working on adding the final touches to the premises, namely a showroom, landscaping and interior design.

“It is great to be in a brand new facility where we have brought our invaluable skills from all five businesses together,” Group CEO, Nigel Long said.

“We have so many great people within the group, and in the past each individual business worked on a different premises. We have now streamlined this to bring our staff and

facilities together.“As we continue to evolve in to this

fast paced, ever changing world, it was time to bring all of our talent together and begin innovating as one big family. After all, two minds are better than one – so I am very excited to now have 250 minds together!

“The past 12 months have had their challenges, but we are lucky to have such a dedicated team of people all working together, and it has been a fantastic experience being part of this new atmosphere.”

Fresh, fierce and a force to be reckoned with, Tekno Autosports is the next big thing in V8 Supercars

02

IN JUST four short years, Tekno Autosports has gone from a rookie race team to a front-running force.

The popular team set up shop in the V8 Supercar Championship in 2011, but it’s roots run deep into the early 2000’s in grassroots motorsport.

As team owner Jonathon Webb progressed from the junior ranks into the Australian Carrera Cup and the second-tier V8 Supercar Championship (now known as the Dunlop Series) the Tekno brand became well known along pit lane.

It was no surprise in 2010 when the family squad decided to step up to the main game, teaming up with Dick Johnson Racing to run their very own car in the V8 Supercar Championship.

In 2011 Tekno stepped it up once again, running the #19 Supercar under an independent team banner.

2012 saw the team extend to two cars as well as a new deal with Triple Eight Race Engineering to campaign their famous Holden racers under a customer agreement.

By 2013 the team had truly found their feet, hiring young gun Shane Van Gisbergen to pilot the second entry alongside Jono Webb.

The young Kiwi hit the ground running in 2013, scoring an incredible victory for the team in the first round of the season at Adelaide.

He backed up the performance with eight more wins and countless podiums over the next three years with the young squad.

Such was the team’s success, Van Gisbergen also came in a close second in the 2014 V8 Championship.

Now the team has stepped up once again, inking a deal for Will Davison to field the squad’s single car entry throughout the 2016 season.

The experienced racer is a perfect fit with the exciting and innovative team, having amassed 18 wins and 52 podium finishes over his illustrious V8 career.

Davison has wasted no time getting up to speed in 2016, racking up his first

win with the new squad just two rounds into the season.

The win in Tasmania has cemented confidence in both driver and team for the year ahead.

Tekno has also expanded it’s presence in the Australian motorsport scene this year, campaigning two McLaren GT cars in this year’s Bathurst 12 Hour, taking outright victory over many top international teams.

At the heart of Tekno is its personnel. The squad has formed

one of the tightest, most effective and inspirational organisations in the industry thanks to a constant drive and a rich winning culture.

The team is made up of industry leading engineers and mechanics whose combined skills are driving the team to the top ranks of the sport.

Not unlike its new partners Doric and Cowdroy, Tekno continues to climb the ladder of success by driving innovation and striving towards a bigger and better future.

THE ALCHIN Long Group is proud to announce that we are now official sponsors of the not-for-profit youth organisation No Second Chance (N2C).

N2C is a revolutionary Youth Safety Campaign which focuses on saving teenage lives by educating Australia’s young boys and girls and men and women on the dangers of street violence and the realities of road carnage.

The main focus of N2C’s program is their Youth Safety Presentation, where key speakers Paul Stanley and Matt Speakman visit and present to schools and local communities around Australia. Once students have attended their presentation, they are one step closer to understanding the critical responsibilities associated with driving a car.

In addition to their Youth Safety Presentations, N2C also have their Top Gun Program. Created in partnership with Porsche Cars Australia, this program is designed specifically for selected graduates of their Youth Safety Presentations, where students are invited for a day at the Porsche Sport Driving School to complete the N2C

Porsche Sport Driving School Young Driver Program.

By utilising the dynamic medium of motorsport to capture the interest of today’s youth, the N2C program has been able to successfully communicate their message to Australian teenagers over these past few years.

As ALG continue to expand and develop as a group, we will become increasingly focused on corporate social responsibility as demonstrated by our upgrade to hybrid cars in a move towards sustainability as well as our ongoing support for charities like No Second Chance. We also hope to lead by example and inspire staff members who want to support causes and charities that they believe in.

PRIOR TO 2015, swinging doors were exempt from regulatory framework that applied to other exterior openings. Immune to the scrutiny of industry requirements, these door designs have changed little over 100 years as a result. But all that has begun to change.

In May of 2015 the Australian Standards for swing doors changed significantly, bringing regulatory framework more in line with other openings, such as windows and sliding doors. These changes promote a more secure opening that is capable of withstanding extreme weather events.

With little change to design over the last century, the majority of swinging doors feature a single, centrally located lock, and 20mm gaps providing only limited resistance to water or wind ingress or forced intrusion. Single point locking also allows unhelpful flexibility that can result in damaging

wear to fixings and the malformation of materials over time, especially when the opening is greater than 2000mm.

That’s why it is essential that Architects, builders, specifiers and fabricators really understand National Construction Code (NCC) and specify appropriate solutions that offer the highest levels of safety, security and building performance for each individual building.

The Australian Government has long maintained that draughts caused by gaps around doors and windows can contribute to a high level of energy loss in homes. Heating and cooling, when taken together are the largest energy user in the average Australian home. Poor sealing compromises the effectiveness of both heating and cooling and swinging doors are often prime culprits.

Most prominently, hinged pivot and

bi fold varieties don’t seal particularly well, while large aluminium or timber hinge-doors have traditionally also proven a challenge to properly seal, in large part because the door assembly system does not perform effectively to lock them in place.

Despite this, until recently there has been no mandated testing or certification required for air tightness. In the past, hinged doors were not included in the Australian Standard covering windows and sliding doors. Consequently they did not have to meet any of the performance criteria and in effect were not required to seal as well as fenestration.

Changes to the Building Code in 2015 finally put an end to this, setting a higher standard for Australian doors.

Australian Standards AS2047:2014 Windows and External Glazed Doors in Buildings was recently updated to

include swinging doors, which means that all hinged, pivot and bi-fold doors are for the first time, subject to the same tests as windows and sliding doors.

It’s vital for all door schedulers, architects, builders, fabricators and ultimately building owners to be aware of these new requirements.

Craig Brennan, a technical consultant for Australian compliance testing and engineering company Azuma Design, believes it is best practice for anyone purchasing or specifying doors to educate themselves to the latest standards and then ensure all parts of a door system are compliant.

“If they’re not careful, it could be the case that parts of a system you need to achieve the performance criteria are missing, or for what is a certified product they may have been swapped out,” says Brennan.

With all this change taking place, Doric has pioneered a new product from to meet the tougher performance requirements for swinging doors.

The leading hardware company has unveiled the revolutionary Doric

DS1297 Lift to Lock device. The Multipoint locking solution helps prevent flexing from the top or bottom of a hinged door, as vertical locking bolts lock the corners into the frame.

The three-point locking in a door assembly provides a much greater resistance to high wind pressures. This provides the best chance of passing the new performance requirements.

The standard allows the structural member in hinged doors to have a flex ratio of 1/100, which Brennan explains

means they are allowed to bend 1mm for every 100mm in length.

“For a door that is normally 2.1 metres tall, you can do the maths, it is going to be a challenge to stop that movement and flex,” he says.

“The only way to meet, or at least the only way you have a chance of meeting the Australian Standard is by having three point locking devices.”

While Multipoint locking can help satisfy the performance criteria in the new regulations, it also has a lot to offer in the area of safety and security.

Deadlocks on exterior doors have long fuelled a controversial battle to balance safety and security.

“The only way to meet, or at least the only way you have a chance of meeting the Australian

Standard is by having three point locking devices.”

Unfortunately instances where building occupants have been trapped indoors during fires have remained a regular occurrence in Australia.

The NSW fire department warns about the problem and publicly recommends a balance between home security and home safety. However deadlocks are a critical part of building security, with insurance companies often stipulating double key lock requirements in their policies.

The Doric DS1297 Lift to Lock

offers a great solution to this delicate balancing act. The issue is solved with a clever new function, where the lock can be snibed while the building is occupied. If the occupants need to get out in an emergency they can operate the snib instead of fumbling for keys. Key locking is consequentially only needed when the building is unoccupied.Doric solves a multitude of problems that window manufacturers face heading into the future with the DS1297 Lift to Lock. Dedicated to the constant evolution of products to address changing needs and trends, Doric has the answer.

WILL DAVISON is off to a flying start in 2016.

After making the big move to front-running V8 Supercar team Tekno Auto-sport at the beginning of the year, Will has hit the ground running.

The 33-year-old has racked up four top ten finishes from the seven races so far this year.

And a breakthrough win at the sec-ond round of the season in Tasmania was a huge confidence boost for the entire Tekno team.

WILL DAVISON]The win was Davison’s first since

the Perth round last year and places him well heading into the season.

Will starts the Barbagallo round fifth in the Championship standings, with less than 100 points separating the drivers ahead of him.

With six different drivers taking wins in the first seven races of the sea-son, competition is fierce at the front of the field, but Will is confident the Holden team will be able to continue its run of form in Western Australia.

“It’s easy to see how competitive the field is, when you go from winners one weekend to running mid-pack the next,” said Will.

“I’m still learning new things about the car and the team, so that’s to be ex-pected, but we’ll always be aiming for the front.

“We’ve gone away and crunched some numbers since Phillip Island so hopefully we can get off on the right foot and put together another really great weekend at Perth.”

JOHN BOWEJOHN BOWE has kicked off the 2016

Touring Car Masters Series in style, with a race win and a round win.

Kicking off the year at Clipsal along-side the V8 Supercars, the Doric Ambas-sador quickly asserted his dominance with two race podium finishes.

The reigning TCM champion backed up the performance with a race and round win at Sandown last month.

After two rounds, JB now leads the series with a tidy 32-point margin.

“My season has started pretty, well to be honest,” says Bowe.

“Starting off the year at Clipsal is always great. I got the opportunity to meet the Doric customers there again. I see them every year. They’re a great group of people and we have a great time there.

“We missed out on pole by two one hundredths of a second behind Glenn

Seton in the Mustang at Clipsal.“I finished second and third in the

points races and got second for the round, which was good.”

“Then we were off to Sandown and the car was very competitive. We won the second race and the round, plus we set a new lap record.

“The competition is really good this year. The standard of cars and drivers is always increasing which is great.

“I like to win, but what I really want to do is win a race after having a huge

battle with four other cars.“I’ll be going to Perth to watch the

V8s. The racing has been absolutely fan-tastic this year. The win for Will as Tas-mania was great, even though he had some luck on his side. Motorsport is one of the few sports where luck really counts for something.

“The next TCM race is at Winton. The track there has been resurfaced which I’m really excited about. What a grippy track gives you is more options and lines. It makes for great racing!”

“Motorsport is one of the few sports where luck really counts for something.”

Doric’s DS1297 Lift to Lock multi point mortice lock is designed for aluminium hinged door applications.

The lever is lifted upward to throw the side projection bolt and the vertical locking rods. Additional functionality can be added to the lockset by the fitting of Doric Furniture with snib, which then provides a “day latching function” - the ability to secure the lock from outside, without key locking, therefore providing safety when the building is occupied.

It is designed to provide 4 point locking when a shoot bolt rod kit is added. Installation and field serviceability has been enhanced with a “Pull and Twist” reversible bevelled latch bolt and the ability to remove the lock body while the rod connectors slide out from the actuators.

• Stainless steel bevelled latch bolt, horizontal projection bolt and vertical D bolts for strength and durability

• “Pull and Twist” easily reversible bevelled latch bolt without the need for tools

• 4 Point locking when vertical shoot bolt kit fitted • Snib function available when used with Doric Furniture

with snib (DS1504 or DS1604 Series) • Easily removable lock body which slides out from the

Vertical Shoot bolt rods, without the need to unscrew rod adaptors

• Floating cam cylinder allows for one side to be

operated even when a key is left in the other side of the cylinder

• Stainless steel rod tubes which provide a secure

connection onto the adaptors when crimped
