TURNING EXPERIENCE INTO PRACTICE

April 15, 2019

Dear Trucking Industry Professional:

The Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) invites you to join us for the second installment of TMC’s Fleet Data Management and Cybersecurity Conference, to be held Wednesday, June 26 at ATA/TMC Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia. The event will be co-located with the 2019 Summer Meeting of ATA’s Technical Advisory Group.

TMC is hosting this event once again based on input from Council members and users of our Vehicle Maintenance Reporting Standards (VMRS), who have expressed a need for targeted, focused education on today’s fleet data management and cybersecu-rity challenges. During this one-day conference, TMC will present training sessions on VMRS itself, a deeper dive into VMRS code utilization, how fleet maintenance software providers use VMRS, and predictive analytics for fleet success.

In addition, TMC will present sessions on breakdown maintenance benchmarking based on a full year’s data from the TMC/FleetNet America Vertical Benchmarking Program, as well as cybersecurity issues with today’s equipment. The conference will also provide attendees the opportunity to ask questions about using VMRS as well as provide feedback to VMRS developers.

For details, see our meeting brochure and registration info, or visit TMC’s website — http://tmc.trucking.org or call the TMC offices at (703) 838-1763.

I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and join us at TMC’s second Fleet Data Management and Cybersecurity Conference. We look forward to seeing you in Arlington!

Sincerely,

Robert BraswellTMC Executive Director

Brought to you by the American Trucking Associations’ Technology & Maintenance Council, TMC’s Fleet Data Management & Cybersecurity Conference is the only industry event in trucking solely focused on addressing best practices in fleet data management and cybersecurity.

This conference brings together a community of OEMs, suppliers, software provid-ers, fleet maintenance and data management professionals to address a wide range of prominent issues. A sampling of topics include collecting the right data and putting it into action, addressing cybersecurity threats as well as the latest on the Vehicle Maintenance Reporting Standards (VMRS) – a single, concise coding convention to manage fleets’ assets and analyze maintenance operation costs.

Developed by TMC, the industry’s leading voice on maintenance and engineer-ing recommended practices, VMRS is the universal language of maintenance cost reporting that helps fleets to identify and address maintenance issues, extract real business value from data collected by fleets, and use it for efficient cost reporting and maximizing fleet efficiencies.

TMC’s Fleet Data Management & Cybersecurity Conference will be immensely valu-able for those who are familiar with VMRS, and even for those who are not. Attend-ees will have the opportunity to increase their knowledge of VMRS and learn how to implement it effectively in their operation. Other topics covered will focus on selecting a fleet management software package, best practices for maximizing utilization, and creating better maintenance reports.

CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS

“Last year’s Data Conference covered VMRS from A to Z. If you were a first-time user or a seasoned veteran there was plenty of exciting information to be absorbed. Most of the major maintenance software providers were in atten-dance and available to answer any questions. Time well spent. I’m looking forward to the next conference!”

8 - 9 amSession 1 — TMC/FleetNet America Vertical Benchmarking Program: An In-Depth Analysis of Roadside Breakdown Costs The TMC/FleetNet America Benchmarking Program has now gathered one year’s worth of roadside breakdown data and the resulting information contains several surprises. Certain fleets are pushing the envelope on how far they can run be-tween roadside breakdowns — in fact one fleet ran 75,582 miles between unscheduled roadside breakdowns, or seven times the vertical aver-age. The data also shows that fleets are spending four times as much on unscheduled roadside breakdowns as compared to in-house. Learn how the best-in-class fleets are performing and their secrets of success.

9 - 9:15 amCoffee Break With Vendor Exhibits

9:15 - 10:15 amSession 2 — A Deeper Dive Into VMRS Code UtilizationThe Vehicle Maintenance Reporting Standards (VMRS) have been in use for more than 40 years, but many still have ques-tions. Attend this session and learn the many facets of VMRS that you might not be aware of. Whether you’re a maintenance professional or just starting your career, you’re bound to have questions about VMRS, this is the one session to attend and hone your skills.

Fleet analysts and managers have unique needs and key performance indicators (KPIs). It was incredibly valuable to sit among my colleagues at the TMC Fleet Data Management and Cybersecurity Conference to address areas directly related to our roles in the industry. I look forward to [this year’s event] and plan to encourage several of my colleagues to attend.

10:30 - 11:30 amSession 3 — Predictive Analytics for Fleet Success“Predictive analytics” is becoming an increasingly familiar term within the trucking in-dustry as third parties and fleets look to make better use of the data collected by their back-office and onboard systems. In trucking, big data is enabling the development and implementation of predictive analytics for a range of applications, yielding proac-tive maintenance and less equipment downtime. This session will review how fleets are successfully leveraging this strategy in today’s operations.

11:30 am - 12:30 pmLunch

12:30 - 2 pmSession 4 — National Strategies for Preventing Cybersecurity Disasters For over one year, ATA’s Fleet CyWatch member benefit has served the ATA Federation as a cybersecurity reporting tool and information sharing provider in keeping stakeholders on alert over national security concerns. As the U.S. economy is reliant on trucking, and trucking is efficient through network security, it’s important that industry and government work together in protecting freight operations. Join this session and see what Federal en-forcement and industry cybersecurity experts have accomplished and initiated to further improve cybersecurity for the U.S. trucking industry.

2 - 2:15 pmCoffee Break with Vendor Exhibits

2:15 - 3:15 pmSession 5 — Fleet Experience Managing Cybersecurity DisastersTrucking is proving all too vulnerable to a variety of cyber attacks and crimes. These attacks can lead to loss of revenue, company and customer data, and asset downtime. This session will feature fleet representatives who will share their organization’s experi-ences with cybersecurity disasters, how they managed them, and what they learned from the process.

3:15 - 3:30 pmCoffee Break with Vendor Exhibits

AIRpORT ANd TRANSpORTATIONThere are three major airports in the Washington, DC region.

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) is located just across the Po-tomac River in Virginia and is the closest airport to DC. Reagan Airport is accessible via its own Metro stop on the Blue and Yellow lines and connects to Ballston Metro stop via the Orange Line near ATA/TMC headquarters. To catch a taxi, look for the official taxi stand outside of baggage claim (a ride into downtown DC will cost about $15-20). Rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft are also good options to get to and from the airport.

Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) is located 26 miles from DC in suburban Virginia. Dulles Airport is also the primary international airport for the DC region, with almost 140 nonstop domestic and international destinations on nearly 40 airlines. Dulles Airport has a dedicated access road that makes getting to or from the airport efficient via car, taxi or airport shuttle. Washington Flyer taxi cabs exclu-sively service Dulles Airport. Taxi stands are located outside the main terminal and a ride into DC will cost about $60-$70. Washington Flyer offers a Silver Line Express Bus that drops off at the Wiehle-Reston East Metrorail station about 15 minutes away. Silver Line Express Bus fare is $5 for one way and you can purchase tickets inside the airport at Arrivals Door 4.

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is a bit further from DC near Baltimore, Md., but often that means you can find even better flight deals. The airport has grown to 90-plus domestic and international destinations and services more than 25 million passengers each year. BWI Airport is located 32 miles from DC and is accessible via an MARC/Amtrak train route that picks up and drops off at Union Station. Taxis, Uber and Lyft are also available at the airport.
