The Credit Union Difference

Work Your Home Improvement Plan

D id you know that in the last calendar year, America’s credit unions provided

their members nationwide with $7.3 billion in financial benefits? That’s an average of $140 per member household according to Credit Union National Association’s economics and statistics department.

Credit unions save members money by charging lower interest rates on loans and paying higher dividends on deposit accounts and investments. They also charge fewer and lower fees. So the more you use our credit union, the more you save.

The main reason ORNL FCU can offer a better value is that we’re a member-owned, not-for-profit cooperative. We exist to meet members’ needs, not to make a profit and maximize the wealth of outside shareholders, as banks do.

Consumers recognize and value credit union financial benefits. Furthermore, a variety of surveys consistently show that members see credit unions as more trustworthy and believe they deliver superior member service. For example:

• The Financial Trust Index from Chicago Booth/Kellogg School reported that trust in credit unions was 23 percentage points higher than banks.

• The American Customer Satisfaction Index reported consumer satisfaction with credit unions broke all records for 2011 and has remained well above the bank average for the last three years. Credit unions’ score in 2014 was 85 (on a scale of 0 to 100), while banks scored 76.

• Recent credit union membership growth makes it clear that the public values the credit union difference. Credit union memberships are now growing at more than two times the rate of U.S. population growth. Today, credit unions claim 100 million memberships—a total equal to 32% of the U.S. population.

When you look at credit unions vs. banks, the difference matters. Come see us today or call us at 800.676.5328 for all your financial needs.

W hether you’re remodeling a home you’ve just bought or adding value to your

existing home so you can stay in it longer, now’s the time to work on your own home improvement plan.

A home equity line of credit (HELOC) can help you finance a renovation or remodel. With a HELOC from ORNL Federal Credit Union, you can:

• Add more living space: Redesign your kitchen, expand your home office, or turn your bedroom into a master suite.

• Accommodate your changing family: Create a separate living area for a family member, open up your kitchen and dining area, or update your bathrooms.

• Personalize to fit your lifestyle: Add an enclosed porch, a three-season porch, or swimming pool.

• Become energy efficient: Replace your roof or windows, change to geothermal heating, or add solar.

The advantages of using an ORNL FCU HELOC include:

• Potential tax benefits: Home equity interest payments may be tax-deductible.

• Lower monthly payments: Interest rates on HELOCs are typically lower than credit card or personal loan rates. Currently, rates are as low as 3.25% APR*.

• Greater financial control: With an ORNL FCU HELOC, you withdraw and pay interest only on what you need when you need it.

However you want to improve your home, ORNL FCU has home equity loans to suit your needs. For more information on ORNL FCU HELOCs, stop by any of our 32 convenient branch locations or call 800.676.5328.
