You will see that allmulti-shaft mixers are not the same.Ross design innovations – like the useof special dry running seals forsanitary applications, or a lubricatedbushing system for the rotor statormixer – give Ross customers a terrificadvantage. All Ross Multi-Shaft Mixersare built with generous shaft supportsto eliminate the concern overmaintenance issues. Our engineeringand fabrication facilities are uniquelyequipped to handle the job, at areasonable cost, for standard orcomplex designs.

The Ross Difference

The Ross Multi-Shaft Mixer is a proven design to meet the changing requirements of today’smajor process industries.

Ross Multi-Shaft Mixers are tailored to suit the individual process demands of customersmanufacturing products that range from low tohigh viscosity. This is possible by selecting thebest combination of the three agitation systemsoffered with this mixer.

Models are available in fixed tank andchange-can designs. Change-can units are builtthrough 1000 gallons capacity whereas fixedtank models are available to 4000 gallonscapacity. An extensive range of designcombinations, horsepower selections andoptional features are available with each mixer.

MODEL VMC-100 VACUUM MIXER

DUAL OR TRIPLE SHAFT DESIGNS TO FIT YOUR EXACTPROCESSING NEEDSWe offer Dual and Triple Shaft designs to meet yourspecific process requirements. Our economical DualShaft design includes a conventional high speeddisperser and a two wing anchor agitator. Thisconfiguration is ideal for straight forwarddispersion and mixing applications.

The Triple Shaft design extends the operatingrange of this product line by adding either a highshear rotor/stator mixer, or a second high speeddisperser. The addition of a high shearrotor/stator mixer adds the capability ofemulsifying and homogenizing products thatrequire higher shear to reduce the size of theparticles being mixed.

The Dual Shaft and the Triple Shaft designsare available in standard or sanitaryconfigurations. They can be customized to meetany special process considerations such asvacuum or pressure operation.

High Shear Rotor/Stator MixerThe high speed close tolerancerotor and stator provide highshear to all materials beingpassed through the rotor/statorgap. This intense shearing actionis used to reduce particle size forhomogenization, dissolution andemulsification. Used alone thismixer is best applied withmaterials having a maximumviscosity of 10,000 centipoise. In conjunction with the anchor itsuseful range can be extended toover 100,000 cps.

High Speed DisperserThe conventional dispersionblade is used to disperse solidsinto viscous liquids that arebeyond the viscosity range ofthe high shear rotor/stator mixer and anchor combination. This mixer is best applied byitself in a viscosity range up to 50,000 cps and inconjunction with the anchor to over a million centipoise.

Three Wing Anchor AgitatorThe three wing anchor agitator isdesigned to provide maximummovement of product under lowshear conditions. It movesmaterials in radial and axialdirections to feed the product tothe high speed mixer heads. It is also used to improve heat transfer by constantly movingstagnant materials from theinterior tank walls. Teflon scrapersattached to the anchor can assistin heat transfer. The shape of theanchor makes it easy to cleanbetween batches.

When all three agitators are used, the mix cycle is usually shorter whencompared to dual shaft models.

The three separately driven agitatorswork in concert with each other toproduce a thorough mixture of allproduct components.

Model CDA-1000 Triple Shaft MixerTriple Shaft Mixers above 300 gallons working capacity aresupplied in single and dual post hydraulic lift design. Most Multi-Shaft Mixers are supplied with stainless steel wetted parts. The Anchor and two High Speed Dispersers are independentlyvariable speed. The ASME code constructed and stamped jacketis insulated and sheathed in stainless steel. Complete controlpanels are normally supplied to enable fast startup upon installation.

Model VMC VersaMixThis triple shaft model is ideal for research and

development activities. This mixer is available in 1, 2 and4 gallon sizes. It allows users to develop new products

with the confidence they can scale up to production sizes.The mixer is designed with the user in mind with all

stainless steel wetted surfaces, also optional features areavailable such as vacuum construction, a jacket to heat orcool a choice of agitator designs, our two or three wing

configuration, or the newest helical design.The mixer controls are built into the mixer housing topermit single point hook up upon receipt of the mixer

from the factory.

Model CDA-50, 100 and 200 Gallon Dual ShaftMixers are normally available in stock

for immediate shipment.They include vacuum hoods for operation to 29-1⁄2 Hg, and

a single post air/oil hydraulic lift system. Our Dual ShaftMixers are supplied in a wide range of sizes from 1 through

1000 gallons capacity. Mix vessels are available with ajacket to provide heating or cooling and can be mounted onnon-sparking caster wheels for ease of movement within theplant. The drives include explosion proof motors and each

agitator is independently driven for precise mixing control."

Complete Production SystemComplete computerized systems can automate your

mixing process and ensure consistency and flexibility.All mixing parameters from individual agitator control tovacuum and thermal control, and raw material addition,at key process stages can be pre-set for a variety of mix

recipes. These systems are easily updated to meetchanges in your production requirements.

Sanitary Model VMC-40SThis all stainless steel model is ideal for

applications that require sanitaryconstruction. The VMC- 40S includes threeindependently driven agitators – a) Three

wing anchor b) High shear rotor stator mixerc) High-speed disperser. This sanitary

vacuum design includes controls and a jacketfor heating and cooling. Multiple mix vessels

enable semi-continuous operation of themixer. All interior and exterior exposedsurfaces are of polished stainless steel

construction.

Sanitary Model VMC-200SRoss is often the manufacturer of choice for those who require theultimate in design for critical sanitary mixing and dispersionapplications. This mixer includes three independently drivenagitators. This sanitary design includes vacuum/pressure, CIP andSLIM (Solid/Liquid Injection Manifold) for the subsurface injection ofpowders and liquids. Multiple mix vessels enable semi-continuousoperation of the mixer. All interior and exterior exposed surfacesare of polished stainless steel type 316 construction.

Fixed Tank DesignsFixed tank models are available from 10 through 4000

gallons working capacity. All of our fixed tank designs arecustom built to meet our client’s special process requirements.Materials of construction, bottom designs including flat, dished

or conical shapes, discharge valves and atmospheric orvacuum construction are all available.

Elevated Production Model –Ross provides Discharge Systems in avariety of configurations. Our Elevated Discharge System raises the changecan for discharge and allows room for a receiver to be positioned beneaththe vessel. Standard sizes are available from 10 through 1000 gallons.

A Ross Discharge System can eliminate wasted hours scraping heavy or sticky materials from a mix vessel.With push-button simplicity, the system can automatically discharge a batch in minutes – into bulk containers,filling or packaging equipment, an extruder, or a two or three-roll mill. The system easily handles non-flowingproducts up to several million centipoise. By combining the Discharge System with a set ofinterchangeable mix vessels, you can make your operation even more productive. ChangeCans from multiple mixers can be rolled to the Discharge System for fast discharge, thenrolled away for cleaning as the next Change Can is positioned for discharge. Thisflexibility can boost production on several process lines, all working with asingle Discharge System. The Ross Discharge System improves plant safety, because it lowers the riskof injury while scraping heavy materials from the mix vessel. It alsoreduces the operator’s exposure to the batch material, while it helps tominimize the release of vapors into the plant atmosphere. Ross DischargeSystems are available for use with Ross mixers and for mixers built by

many other manufacturers. Many options are available to suitthe special requirements of virtually any application.

Standard 4 gallon LabModel with Mixer oncommon bench – The lab

models are often mounted with adedicated mixer system on acommon bench.

Automated Discharge of Viscous Products

Sanitary 4 gallon Lab Model – Forapplications involving pharmaceuticals,cosmetics, personal care or foodproducts, we offer a Sanitary designfor full GMP compliance with an all-stainless-steel support structure.

With the Change Can positioned beneath the Discharge System, astainless steel platen is lowered hydraulically into the vessel. The product isforced out through a valve in the side or bottom of the vessel, or throughthe top of the platen. For the discharging of thermoplastic materials, theplaten may be jacketed for heating.

With manyoptions available, Ross can build multi-agitatorand PLC/PC-based control systems with all thefunctionality you need for efficient dataacquisition andprocess control.
