H2020 Widespread - TEAMING instrument
Institution building!
• Structural reform in research landscape - New and strong
knowledge institutions, able to become beacons in their own
countries/ regions – at the heart of possible far-reaching reform
processes
• Centres of excellence able to spur innovation and growth
• We do not want to see yet another good ‘Coordination Action’ but
a true New Institution, claiming a new position in the national and
international science and innovation scene
• EC expects that Centres of Excellence are reorganising and
integrating/possibly downsizing existing institutions!
• Ambitious long term ventures

Definition of Living lab
A Living Lab is an ecosystem for experimentation and co-
creation with real users in real life environments, where the
end users together with researchers, firms and public
institutions jointly explore, design and validate new and
innovative products, services, solutions and business models
with the support and usage of ICT.
A living lab is a user-centred, open-innovation ecosystem,
often operating in a territorial context (e.g. city, region),
integrating concurrent research and systemic innovation
processes within a public-private-people
partnership.
