WHAT YOU MISSED

HEY INNIS! There have been big things happening at Innis these past two weeks! Most notably, we had our Fall By-Election, and there are some brand new people that are part of our governing bodies: ICSS and the ICC! In preparation for the election, we had a Democracy Night – a time for Innisians to socialize and where the candidates made their speeches. Did you make it out?! It was a great time!

Innis Residence also had their first House Olympics, Cardio Pictionary. Let the house rivalries begin… there’s nothing wrong with a little good-spirited competition!

Make sure you flip through the newsletter to get an update on all of the events in and around Innis that you can participate in, making your time at UofT and at Innis exactly how you’d like it to be!

INTRODUCING: NEWLY ELECTED ICSS MEMBERS

The 2015 Fall ICSS by-election voting period was held on September 28th and 29th. Thank you to everyone who chose to vote, and took an active role in the way you are represented within and throughout the College and the University! Your votes elected the following candidates:

VICE PRESIDENT INTERNAL: Troy Peschke (Elected with 129 votes)

“Hey Innis! I'm Troy, currently in my second year at UofT studying Finance and Economics. I'm living in residence for my second year, and also working at the front desk so come say “hey” if you see me! I was recently elected to the ICSS in the position of Vice President Internal. I was involved with the residence last year, and after meeting all the incredible people at Innis, I knew I wanted to get involved at the college level. I'm really looking forward to the year and everything that is to come!”

REPRESENTATIVE OF FIRST-YEAR INNIS RESIDENCE STUDENTS: Sandy Tata (Elected with 66 votes)

"Coming from a place so far away from Canada, being here is quite an experience in itself. I was born and brought up in New Delhi for the first 8 years of my life before moving to Bangkok. From there my family and I moved to New York, then back to Bangkok before graduating high school from there. Innis College has been one of the warmest and most accepting atmospheres that I have every been a part of, and I felt that the least I could do to give back to this amazing community was to take significant part in its student affairs, and the ICSS offered me the perfect opportunity to do that. I feel that with my friendly demeanor and vocal persona I will be able to make an impact on the Innis community. I have never been happier to be a part of an organization such as the ICSS!”

REPRESENTATIVE OF FIRST-YEAR NON-RESIDENT STUDENTS: Stephanie Kroone (Elected with 77 votes )

“Salut! A great big hello from the new first-year commuter representative, Stephanie Kroone! Excited to be a part of the ICSS, Stephanie (or Steph) joins the group with unhindered enthusiasm. Coming into Innis, she previously went to a very small high school, École secondaire Étienne Brûlé, and was nervous about the grandeur of U of T. Unsurprisingly, the warmness of the Innis community instantly quelled her fears and inspired her to pass on that same feeling to all the other commuters who may feel as lost and out of place as she once did. She loves good books, good people and, of course, good times, which are sure to be in store.”

EQUITY CONSULTANT: James Regan (Elected with 110 votes)

I am honoured to serve as the ICSS Equity Consultant in the forthcoming academic year and enthused to bring my experience to the position. Last year, I sat as a Committee Member on the board for Brantford Pride; in this position, I planned events to foster LGBTQ inclusivity in the Brantford and Brant County area. I also served as the ICSS Equity Consultant in the 2014-2015 academic year, in which I brought to council’s attention relevant equity-related initiatives on-campus and sought to ensure that council activity committed equity. As Equity Consultant, I will endeavour to foster a positive and inclusive climate within the ICSS and broader Innis College student populace by ensuring that all individuals are wholly represented in the procedures of the Society; further, I will ensure that all parties have unencumbered access to the Society’s events and activities. To this end, I will facilitate equity and diversity initiatives through council meetings and program reviews.

Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected].

NEWLY ELECTED ICC (INNIS COLLEGE COUNCIL) MEMBERS:

Thanksgiving Potluck

This weekend is Thanksgiving, a North American holiday where people gather together, eat great food, and reflect on what they are thankful for. The Innis Office of Student Life is having our own Thanksgiving Potluck together!

A big part of Thanksgiving (and an essential part of potluck) is sharing food, so bring something to share with the rest of the building--mashed potatoes (lots!), salad, a vegetable dish, any kind of dessert. It's great to bring something that you have fond memories of eating at home. There is a sign-up sheet taped to the front desk to write down what you plan to bring for our Thanksgiving celebration! Turkey is provided.

Commuters are also welcome!

NEW STUDENT PHOTOCOPIER/PRINTER

A new printing service will soon be available on the second floor of the Innis College building at 2 Sussex. Just north of the lounge area, where the recently constructed lockers are located, we will be installing a new black and white photocopier during the week of October 5th. The photocopier is intended to support the Innis College student body, as well as the Innis College faculty and staff community. For student users, a TCard reader will be installed for payment. We will plan for future enhancements once the system has been operating successfully.
