Keepingpeople and productsmoving safely and efficientlyIn a world of constant change, keeping people and products moving safely
and efficiently is a complex, unrelenting task. Few industries impact
the public as directly as the transportation industry, which includes
roadways, railways, airports, transit, and seaports. The ever-increasing
need for you to provide intelligent roadway systems and share
information across the enterprise, within the industry, with the public,
and the political community demands superior service.

Intergraph® solutions for the transportation indus-
try ensure dissemination of accurate and timely
information. We deliver products, processes, and
experienced transportation professionals to help
you understand and implement the best solutions
for every aspect of data collection, manage-
ment, analysis, and presentation. From collecting
information in the field to visualizing roadway
assets and congestion on a screen, map, or via
the Web, Intergraph’s solutions help hundreds of
state, provincial, and national governments solve
their asset visualization, management, and capital
planning problems.
Roadway Infrastructure ManagementTransportation agencies must maintain
thousands of miles of roadway, including all
roadway assets, such as bridges, structures,
and signage. Agencies collect massive amounts
of information to effectively maintain these assets.
Collecting, maintaining, analyzing, and reporting
this roadway inventory is a steep challenge
and a top priority. Intergraph provides you a
better way to manage roadway assets with a
combination of software and services, enabling
you to standardizeworkflows and solve common
problems. Traffic engineers can get the latest
traffic counts at a specific interstate location.
A pavement engineer can ascertain how much
pavement along a highway is in need of repair.
Or, a safety engineer can find out the number
of crashes that occurred on a given night at a
particular intersection or a stretch of highway.
To make pavement, traffic, and safety information
more readily available, these agencies require
specialized solutions that not only track locational
data on their physical assets, but also tie the
appropriate technical and historical information to
each asset and provide immediate access to the
right data. This allows you to define priorities and
allocate budgets appropriately.
Transportation Planning and AnalysisWhether it is an executive dashboard, an analyst’s
workbench, or providing information to the public,
Intergraph’s transportation solutions fulfill all your
needs. Our Web-based tools give you no-frills
access to critical information, such as:
Is the transportation network functioning •
smoothly?
Are budgets being met?•
Do problems exist that need attention?•
With Intergraph’s transportation solutions,
analysts have full access to the industry’s rich-
est transportation analysis toolset. Meanwhile,
the public has easy access to traffic and road
conditions. The reporting tool provides updates
of weather, construction projects, and other traffic
data for accurate and timely information.
Intergraph offers a map-based Web interface to
all of the major information systems used by a
transportation agency. It makes use of a common
linear reference that cross-analyzes transporta-
tion data to provide quick answers to questions
such as, “Where are all the areas where there is
both congestion and poor pavement?” It provides
access to video logging, dynamic graphs, and
straight-line diagrams to give you a complete
operating picture of a transportation network.

manitoba transportation and government services
The Manitoba Road Information Site (www.manitoba.ca/roadinfo) has become an
important source of information and a critical factor in public safety for the traveling
public and the trucking industry in the province of Manitoba, Canada. Manitoba
Transportation and Government Services uses GeoMedia® Professional, GeoMedia
WebMap Professional, and GeoMedia Transportation Manager to provide maps and
text reports. Travelers can access information about road conditions for more than
18,000 kilometers of highways.
nevada department of transportation Nevada Department of Transportation selected Intergraph’s transportation solutions
to develop its Safety Management System (SMS), which geographically displays
information about roadway areas with high incidents of vehicle accidents to better
research underlying causes of accidents. The new SMS will assist in the compilation
and analysis of statewide crash data, leading to the identification and evaluation of
high crash locations.
With Intergraph’s transportation data access, you
do not have to know which department “owns”
data; nor does it matter where it resides. It is not
necessary for you to have “read-only” accounts
in multiple systems to retrieve the data needed
to perform their jobs. Once you have access, all
critical transportation data is at your fingertips.
Information is available in real-time; no data •
warehousing is needed for quickly changing data.
Data can be used in the way best suited for •
your needs.
You have the ability to print reports, view results •
on a map, and export data for further analysis.
Non-GIS users have access to GIS tools to •
perform area, range, and distance queries.
You can access and analyze data anywhere, •
anytime – enabling you to use up-to-date
information quickly to improve productivity.
You can create and configure Web sites and
services that implement Open Geospatial
Consortium (OGC®) specifications, including
OGC-compliant versions of Web Map Server
(WMS) and Web Feature Service (WFS), without
any programming expertise.
Routing Analysis Intergraph’s Routing Analysis automatically
determines the optimal driving route from point A
to point B and generates both a map and printed
directions. It can create optimal routes for making
multiple stops and determine the quickest route,
taking into account one-way streets, speed
limits, and more. Routing Analysis can locate the
closest resource to a particular site. By extension,
this capability allows you to analyze whether
there is proper coverage for determining incident
response. Our application can use the same data
maintained in a linear referencing system (LRS)

to perform sophisticated routing analysis, such
as calculating the safest route for oversized and
overweight vehicles. Fully customizable, this ap-
plication is both desktop- and Web-enabled.
In the U.S., Intergraph offers routing analysis in the
context of an Automated Oversized/Overweight
Routing solution to provide route generation for
large and heavy vehicles, taking into consideration
road conditions and restrictions.
Railway Infrastructure ManagementIntergraph’s Railway Infrastructure Management
Solution generates and displays information
about the rail infrastructure (tracks, tunnels, stop
points, and ticket machines), including Web-
based applications that provide fundamental
support to internal processes. These processes
range from maintenance, documentation on
available routes, and investment planning to
facilities management, all while providing this
information across department boundaries.
Intergraph technology assists in infrastructure
management, survey and control, Web distribu-
tion, noise pollution evaluation, and geological
evaluation for rail clients. You can use GIS to
manage different aspects of the maintenance
processes and support the integration and shar-
ing of company information.
Network MaintenanceOur Network Maintenance application provides
tools to build and maintain a digital network
model for transportation systems, including
roads, signage, signals, pavement, markings,
transit, and traffic control. This includes develop-
ing networks for LRS and/or routing. For routing,
we also support ready-to-use network data from
such suppliers as NavTEQ and Tele Atlas.
Furthermore, Intergraph gives you everything you
need to build, maintain, and analyze a multilevel,
temporal LRS. This provides support for multiple
linear referencing methods and multiple geomet-
ric representations, and prevents the persistent
problem of the location aspect of asset data
slipping over time due to network changes.
The editing tools have been upgraded to provide
a complete data maintenance environment for
multilevel LRS, and you can easily add a temporal
dimension to both your data maintenance and
data analysis. Finally, you can get cutting-edge
linear referencing capabilities right out of the box.
Image ManagementTransportation agencies have multiple depart-
ments, such as planning, design, environmental,
and maintenance, which require access to
image data. Usually, these departments use

The major benefit of TerraShare is simple. It’s all about data discovery and data access. With TerraShare, we work more efficiently and have a mechanism to be more accountable. Another pleasant by-product of using TerraShare is that it plays a key role in making the KDOT workforce geospatially aware, thereby supporting the mainstreaming of GIS.

take hours or even days to gather the required
image data to support transportation projects. In
addition, data is often isolated in departmental
computers, departmental offline media storage,
or hardcopy format, requiring image experts
to translate formats and coordinate systems.
Intergraph’s Image Management application
provides you with tools to manage, search,
and access geospatial information, while also
supplying a platform for geospatial applications
to simplify access to imagery.
Your organization can increase return on invest-
ment on geospatial imagery, technology, and
