For a distinguished career as an internationally respected expert on earthquake risk, resilience, and disaster recovery; for her research and academic contributions that bridge our technical understanding of earthquake impacts and their social and economic consequences; and, for building connections between the Berkeley CEE and Architecture Departments to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration.

For nationally-recognized leadership as a consulting environmental engineer in advancing the state of the art and practice for remediation of groundwater impacted by emerging contaminants; for her exemplary record of professional service to multiple federal and state organizations; and, for more than two decades of collaboration with, and service to, Berkeley CEE.

For major contributions to the art and practice of geotechnical earthquake engineering, combining applied research and professional practice experience to the expert evaluation of dams, levees, and other critical infrastructure; and, for more than four decades of support to Berkeley CEE through frequent guest lectures and corporate support for graduate student fellowships.

For outstanding leadership in the structural design of high-rise buildings; for the advancement of performance-based seismic design methods; for career-long service to the profession; and, for many years of contribution to Berkeley CEE as a driving force for promoting and securing funding for structural engineering research.

For fundamental contributions to the analysis of physical-chemical processes in water treatment; for advancements in understanding the behavior and performance of new materials used in water-treatment membranes; for acclaimed excellence in teaching and mentoring of graduate students in environmental engineering; and, for many years of collaboration with Berkeley CEE faculty.

For outstanding accomplishments in transportation planning and policy making; for national leadership in public transportation administration; for leadership in encouraging and supporting careers for women in transportation engineering; and, for support of Berkeley CEE by providing numerous student internships and frequent guest lectures.

For world-wide leadership in geotechnical earthquake engineering, soil liquefaction and post-liquefaction behavior, and seismic deformation and stability analysis of dams and levees; and, for more than 30 years of excellence as a truly distinguished teacher, researcher, and member of the Berkeley CEE faculty.

For landmark contributions in research and practice related to dynamic soil-structure interaction analyses, especially as applied to nuclear power plants and other critical facilities subject to earthquake ground motions; and, for more than three decades of collaboration with, and support of, Berkeley CEE, including frequent guest lectures and graduate student fellowship support.

Farhang Ostadan Ph.D., Civil (Geotechnical) Engineering (1983)

For more than four decades of outstanding contributions to the growth and development of Berkeley Civil Engineering; for creating and leading the Institute of Transportation and Traffic Engineering, the nation’s first such institute combining research and teaching on transportation issues; for numerous research contributions related to the engineering properties of asphalt, concrete, and soils; and, for exemplary service to the profession.

Harmer E. Davis B.S., Civil Engineering (1928) M.S., Civil Engineering (1930)

For outstanding contributions to sanitary engineering and public health for the citizens of California and the entire country; for leadership as the Chief Sanitary Engineer at the California Department of Public Health; and, for his close association over more than 50 years with Berkeley Civil Engineering, as a teacher of sanitary engineering through the extension program, and as a frequent guest lecturer and contributor to the Department.
