Fairfield & Dew, call ahead to place order

There are those rare moments of seren-dipity, where things just fall into place, says lead singer Sean Teslar of The Wild res,the agship band for Healthy Rhythm Music

Services of Fair eld, Texas. The three-member band, who describestheir music as Indie Folk, will perform their

rst headline concert this Friday, July 18that Healthy Rhythm Community Art Gallery onthe Freestone County courthouse square.

Serendipity may be an apt depiction ofhow this group of musicians, which includesSean, along with Tayton Mahone and LinneaLippart, found each other, and were, subse -quently, discovered by Gallery owner, KenVail. The three attend Navarro College in Corsi -cana, Texas. Sean and Linnea met rst andbegan to play music together. We werejust messing around with some covers inbetween classes, says Linnea. I blame one song on us meeting, says

Tayton, a cover of an Australian Indie bandcalled Boy & Bear. He stopped to talk withthe other two, and before long, the threebecame band mates. On the other hand, Vail was introduced tothe group by Navarro College art professor,Jon Boles, while serving as a judge for anart contest. Vail admired the poster art cre -

ated by Tayton, and then found out that thecollege student was in a band.

Thirty seconds into their audition, I justknew, says Vail.

At the time, the band mates had only beentogether 5-1/2 months, but according toVail, it sounded as if they had been playingtogether for years. Sean Teslar plays acoustic guitar for thegroup, sings lead and writes the songs forThe Wild res repertoire. He began song -writing at age 17, when a relationshipended. It was very shallow in the begin -ning, relates Sean. Although he still nds inspiration from loveand relationships, Sean feels his writing hasmatured, since that rst attempt. Thefocus is on lyrics -- telling a story, settinga mood, he says. Once the words are inplace, the music is built around it. It was the lyrics of his song Landlocked, written for a friend who passed away, that

inspired Tayton to create the artwork thatbrought The Wild res to Healthy RhythmMusic Services. In fact, Vail was so impressed with Taytonsartwork, that he brought him onboard asthe sixteenth artist represented by HealthyRhythm Community Art Gallery. Tayton Mahone creates artwork for thegroup and plays the standup bass. Its abig instrument, with a big stage presence,he says. The instrument is actually a recent studyfor Tayton, who was a trombone player sincesixth grade. I read about it, and picked itup, he says.

In fact, Tayton had only been playing thestandup bass about 3 or 4 days, when he

rst met his band mates. Yet, after hearing

a few of their songs, he immediately beganworking out bass lines for them. Tayton is currently dabbling in the banjoand mandolin, hoping to eventually incor-porate these instruments into the music ofThe Wild res. Linnea Lippart is the female vocalist forthe group, singing mostly harmony andsome lead. We like a lot of harmony heavysongs, she says, so it makes for a good t. Linnea has been singing in church since she

was about 10 years old, andis a member of the choir atNavarro College. The three are native to

the area. Richland is Seanshometown, although heknows many people fromCorsicana. Tayton hailsfrom the small town of Mil -dred. Linnea, originallyfrom Kentucky, has livedin Kerens since she was 11years old. As The Wild res continueto perform together, theirmain goal is creating musicthat connects to people. We want people to like usbecause we create musicthat speaks to them, saysLinnea. Other goals, in working

with Healthy Rhythm MusicServices, include step-ping up their equipmentgame, recording an EPof selected original songs, and building up their fanbase through live performances. Shout out to Ken [Vail] for the opportu -nity! says Linnea. Ken has opened doors and shown us roadsthat we didnt know existed, adds Sean. The Wild res will perform on Friday, July18th at Healthy Rhythm Community Art Gal -lery. Wortham-based Southern Alternative

Rock band, The Pitchforks, will open. Tickets are $5 in advance; $10 at thedoor. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m. with the musicbeginning at 7:30 p.m. Seating is limited. New 13 x 19 Gig Poster by Tayton Mahonewill be available for purchase during theshow. For more information, contact Ken Vail at
