FOOD FOR THOUGHT For those of you that were not at the Chili Dump, Carol and I have agreed to become the Chapter Directors of one of the greatest chapters in GWRRA, Indiana M. A change in leadership has good points and bad points. One of the good things is that with new leadership comes new ideas. One of the bad things that comes with new leadership, comes new ideas. We will lead Chapter M to the best of our ability and always be willing to listen to the ideas of our Chapter members. We are different than the Chapter Directors that were leaders before us, so it is only natural that the ideas of those that came before us may not work for us. Carol and I have some new ideas that may work or maybe they won't, but the only way we will know is to try them on and see how they fit. One of the things we would like to see happen is to put a Chapter team together. We are looking for people that can help us to keep the events that we do and go to fun and interesting and fun. We are only bound by the boundaries of our imaginations. If you are willing to help us take this Chapter to the next level come talk to us.
At the Chili Dump we asked everyone to bring a ride idea to the April Chapter Gathering. It doesn't have to be a ride that you have never been on or a place you have never went to, maybe it is a ride that you took and enjoyed so much that you want to share it with rest of the Chapter so they can enjoy it too. They can be short rides or long rides, an afternoon ride or a ride that lasts for a weekend or week. It may be a ride that the whole Chapter would enjoy or maybe just a few. The way we look at it is only bad ideas for a ride is one that never gets brought up. Please bring your ideas to the Gathering so the ride committee can have ideas as to what interests you. With warmer weather brings the opportunity to get the bikes out and enjoy the scenery and fellowship we find with one another, so make sure that you take some time to check out the old girl and make sure that she is ready to hit the road. Here I sit watching the weather forecast and glancing at the calendar. The confusion is followed with frustration as my bike is ready, but Mother Nature is a tease. Oh, the joy of living in the Midwest during Spring?!! And Fall.
At any rate we have things a happening. Tennessee Spring Fling, Missouri Rally, Goldwing Test ride weekends, and our own Spring Wing Warmup in May. The registration is on the website and I have a copy for our newsletter.
The SWWU will be kicked off by the Thursday night dinner ride. This will be led by Chapter O, Evansville. The schedule will have 3 short rides, Goldwing short, at least an hour and a half each day. There will also be one day long ride to choose from each day. We have trying to move to a ride filled event in the spring and this event will be one more step in this direction. All we have to work against is Mother Nature’s sense of humor.
So, go ahead and get registered and we will see you in Evansville May 10-12 at the Vanderburgh 4H grounds. Ray and Melinda Faber Indiana District Directors

DISCUSSIONS
1. The March meeting was held at our Chili Dump on Sat March 10th.
2. Debbie Cole offered the opening prayer.
3. After the meal a short meeting was held to discuss changes in leadership of the chapter.
4. Gary and Carol Meyerholtz agreed to assume the Chapter Director’s position with Richard Watkins remaining as the Assistant Chapter Director. Gary would like for someone to think about taking over the Director’s position in 3 years.
5. Marilyn Smith will become the new Membership Enhancement Coordinator (MEC) and will also continue as the Newsletter Editor until a new editor steps forward.
6. Debbie Cole will be the “Fun Director”. Gary has tasked her to coming up with a “fun” activity for our chapter gatherings.
7. Future events coming up Niehaus Honda open house May 18-20. In the past this has usually been the chapter’s first ride of the season. How many members would be interested in attending the open house again this year? We’ll discuss it further at the April meeting.
8. The Indiana District Spring Wing Warm Up will be May 10-12, 2018 at the Vanderburgh County 4-H Center in Evansville, IN. They theme will be a Hillbilly Riding Rally. More information and registration forms are further along in this newsletter.
9. The Indian District summer challenge will be a 92 County Challenge. The challenge will be to ride to as many counties as possible over the summer and photograph your bike at each landmark on the list. The rules, list of landmarks and more information are further along in this newsletter.

SHARING OUR ROADS WITH FARMERS
After meeting a corn planter at the crest of a hill last week I saw the need of sharing this
safety report again.
For Motorists
Keep in mind the following safety tips for motorists as you share the road with farm
equipment:
• Farm machinery has a legal right to use public roads just as other motor
vehicles.
• Farm machinery can unexpectedly turn onto a public road from a field or
driveway.
Farm machinery travels slower than normal traffic, often at speeds of
25 miles per hour or less. Automobile drivers must quickly identify farm
equipment and slow down immediately to avoid rear-end crashes.
• Farm machinery operators may not be able to see you because the large
equipment or a load can block part of their rear view. If you can't see the driver,
the driver can't see you.
• Slow-moving farm machinery traveling less than 25 miles per hour should
display a slow moving vehicle emblem on the back of the equipment. This is a
quickly identifiable sign to other motorists.
• Machinery that is half on the road and half on the shoulder may suddenly move
completely onto the road.
• Extra-wide farm machinery may take up more than one lane to avoid hitting
obstacles such as mailboxes and road signs.
Before passing farm machinery:
• Check to be sure the machinery is not turning left. Look for left turn lights or
hand signals. If the machinery slows and pulls toward the right side of the road,
the operator is likely preparing to make a wide left turn. Likewise, sometimes to
make a right turn with wide equipment, the driver must fade to the left.
• Determine if the road is wide enough for you and the machinery to safely share.
• Look for roadside obstacles such as mailboxes, bridges, or road signs that may
cause the machinery to move to the center of the road.
• Be sure there is adequate distance for you to safely pass.
