INDIA SUSTAINABILITY LEADERSHIP SUMMIT 2017

Plenary Session: Is sustainability integral to commercial normality and competitiveness

The response of India Inc to sustainability is based on risks, market-based opportunities and pressures like legislation, stakeholder expectations etc. Competitive advantage can be achieved not merely by keeping abreast with environmental developments, but also by initiating change within the organization and responding with development of new products and services. Increasingly it is evident that business continuity requires that businesses operate in a way that is consistent with the concept of sustainable development. The session delves into sustainability leadership examples from corporate India covering aspects on responsible financing, manufacturing, green infrastructure development and demand aggregation for greener products.

Inaugural Session: Circular Economies and newer business models encouraging businesses to achieve SDGs

The world today is witnessing a paradigm shift on how the future will shape. The adoption of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), covering economic, social development, and environmental protection, provide an opportunity for engagement and a new type of partnership to address the global challenges. Private sector investments and market-based solutions will be needed to achieve scalable and sustained impact in many sectors, while aligning with <2°C pathways to reduce exposure to climate risks. The questions for the corporate leaders today are not whether or not sustainability adds value to their business, but how to integrate these considerations more deeply into the fabric of their organizations. This entails that businesses will explore means to reduce their impact across the entire value chain and forge collaborations with others in support of their sustainability goals. The session provokes how leadership from businesses plays a transformational role to design future development pathways, measure business value and share the imperatives to achieve the SDGs.
