Minerva Residence is a home that shelters its occupants from the hectic pace of Mumbai and acts as a sanctuary – a place that celebrates the owners’ love for travel, passion for art and penchant for cooking. The home oozes a warmth and comfort with attention drawn to the luxurious furniture and accessories that come together.
The modern design of the Minerva Residence oscillates between eclectic and eccentric. The furniture and accessories that demand attention were hand picked by the designer Rahul shankhwalker, partner at Hirsch Bender associates (studio HBa). He wanted to use the space to its optimum level, bringing in fine detailing to every nook and corner.
The grey sofa set doesn’t demand attention and is in minimal contrast with the textured floor tiles.

Materials such as wood, stone, metal, and pieces of art were sourced locally. To add a finer touch, the furniture was imported from Italy while the carpets were custom – made in India. Expert craftsmen were invited to make signature pieces of art work hung on the walls and to handle the finer details of the carpentry. Composite tiles were used on the walls while the master bathroom features marble sourced from India.

frame separating the balcony and the interiors add an authentic Indian artistic touch to the home. The balcony seating is clean and contemporary. It includes more seating to promote social interaction. The soft and subdued look of the balcony is in contrast with the sharp look inside the residence.
Each room celebrates the function of the space. The dining room has a sculptural base dining table. An antique cabinet is within arm’s length. The easy access to the terrace makes the master bedroom a sanctuary of its own. The stand-out pieces in the residence are two silver gilded decorative chairs, made by craftsmen from Rajasthan. These chairs are the same ones used by the Maharajas in their palaces decades ago. It was an opportunity for the team of Studio HBA to witness an awakening of this lost art. “Since the process is such an old art form, working with craftsmen in an unfamiliar and unorganized sector was a challenge to the team’s usual process,” Rahul signs off.

the Maharajas of Rajasthan.
