Don Bosco Art Lesson  The t!o volunteers !e nt out and $ou%ht a lar%e piece of rolled canvas paint and paint$rushes.  They too" old sheets to pr otect the ,oors and ta$les at the orphana%e. -ne of the volunteers chose a picture to paint and divided $oth it and the canvas into &0 pieces. ach se%ment of the picture !as printed out in A5.  The volunteers !er e %reeted at the home !ith ,o!ers $efore the children !ere split into the art %roup and the computer %roup. They tau%ht the "ids ho! to mi/ the paint to%ether for di'erent e'ects. The $oys !ere then %iven a num$er !ith each num$er correspondin% to one of the &0 pieces to paint.

y the end of the t!o hours all &0 se%ments had $een completed and !ere

dryin% ready to $e put to%ether on the follo!in% Sunday for the %rand

reveal.

 The $oys massively en#oyed the activity and !ere as"in% 3uestions a$out the

ne/t steps and !hat they !ould $e doin% in the comin% !ee"s. The

volunteers !ere very !ell or%anised and communication $et!een them and

the )on osco sta' !as very %ood.

IT esson !t the "oys# home

ittle information !as provided $y )on osco a$out either the resources

availa$le or the a$ility of the $oys so it !as do!n to the volunteer to

improvise !hen they arrived. There !ere 14 $oys in the lesson of mi/ed

a$ility and 4 computers availa$le. They !ere set typin% tas"s to complete to

measure their competency !ith a computer the volunteer !as informed that

the $oys only used to computers to play %ames they !ere ho!ever familiar

!ith a "ey$oard. hile lesson !as fairly $asic plans have $e%un to $e dra!n

up for a lon%er term pro%ram to improve their $asic (T s"ills !hich could $e

useful later in life.

-n $oth )on osco activities it !as o$vious ho! much en#oyment the $oy

!ere %ettin% they loved interactin% !ith the volunteers and "ept as"in%

them to come $ac" the follo!in% !ee". 6( !ill $e comin% $ac" every

Sunday to run arts and computer classes for our very enthusiastic orphans8

 The scarcely used li$rary at S)*+ !as loo"in% a $it %loomy $efore three

volunteers decided to $ri%hten it up. They dre! up plans liaised !ith the

principal and implemented the !hole thin% themselves. The initial plan !as

to rearran%e and paint the entire li$rary and create a pro#ector room in one

half ho!ever due to contrastin% vie!s from the principal and the senior

principal compromises had to $e made. The !alls !ere cleaned $efore the

outlines of the paintin%s !ere dra!n. The li$rary !alls are no! home to t!o

mon"eys a ti%er a $ird and several coconut trees as !ell as a colourful

interpretation of the li$rary rules. Several shelves !ere also reor%anised to

ma"e them easier for the students to pic" a $oo" they !ould li"e. (n a recent

meetin% $et!een 6( sta' and $oth principals a re3uest $y a volunteer to
