SANCTUARY CANDELABRUM Incarnation’s Candle Program is well under way! If you would like to submit a prayer/intention, an offering of $10 or more reserves a five-day candle which will be lighted for your intention and placed in the church sanctuary. On Expanding One’s Heart for Love & Mercy If you google the word, minimalism, you will learn that it is a lifestyle of simplicity and moderation. It’s living with less possession and tempering excessiveness and passion for more wealth, objects, and experience. So, minimalists have few pieces of furniture and less clutter in their house. They party and travel less. They avoid too many activities. Are you a minimalist? Minimalism is good because it fosters clarity and singleness of purpose. But when it comes to the Gospel, minimalism does not ap-ply because the Gospel calls for excessive generosity and lavish care for others, including those that are not related to us. It means giving the other cheek to the one who offends us and walking an extra mile with someone. Of course, Jesus preached against inordinate attachment to material things and relationships. But when it comes to the human heart, he urges us to expand it, to stretch it to others in compassion, forgiveness, and love. Jesus’ ministry, suffering, and death were all about absolute giving of one’s life for our sake. His last words on the cross were replete with forgiveness, mercy, and reconciliation. He embraced the Cross, his suffering and death wholeheartedly for the sake of love. Might we be stingy and average when it comes to relationships and the human heart? A Novena to St. Peregrine In solidarity with our Sick Parishioners, Eucharistic Ministers to the Sick and with the blessings of our Pastor Fr. Rodel Balagtas, will have a Novena to St. Peregrine, twice daily, April 23 to May 1. Daily: April 23 to April 30 (except Sun.): 1-After the 8:30 am Mass, following the Divine Mercy Novena; 2-Following the Divine Mercy Novena, before the 5:30 pm Mass. On Sat., April 24 and Sun., April 25 after the 4:00 pm Masses. On Sat., May 1, the Feast Day of St. Peregrine: after the 8:30 am Mass, following the Divine Mercy Novena. Who is St. Peregrine? St. Peregrine is the patron saint of people afflicted with cancer and similar diseases. The night before his scheduled operation, Peregrine crawled to the altar of the chapel of the Servites. Before the cruci-fied Christ, Peregrine bowed his head and prayed. A mir-acle occurred. Christ's hands were slowly removed from
the cross and lightly stroked Peregrine's legs. Peregrine was cured of his Cancer Disease and continued his ministries of caring for the poor, for the sick, the op-pressed in the hospitals, and the prisons. Since his death many cancer patients have obtained blessings from God through this saint. St. Peregrine was born in Forli, Italy in 1265 and died at the age of 80 on the day of the Blessed Virgin Mary, May 1. He was canonized a saint by Pope Ben-edict X111 in 1726.
