THE BIG SOCIETY IN YOUR AREA
A big thanks to all that
helped with the clean up
of St Andrew’s Church

9th of October.
This is a good example of
“ The Big Society” taking
shape in our area.
It is community action like
this that will change our
community and make
North Halifax a better
place for all.

Local residents are in a long term fight against
disruption caused by heavy goods vehicles.
After consultation with officers, Andrew brought the
issue up at Cabinet questions, and a meeting of the
residents was held at Soil Hill Quarry. But still no
firm end date. It was, therefore, decided the best
course of action was to petition Council to have a
weight restriction put on the entire length of
Perseverance Road to restrict use by heavy vehicles.
Andrew worked with his colleagues and drafted a Council
motion to lobby the Home Secretary to give police more
powers to fight the problem of anti-social drinking. The
motion was passed at September’s Council meeting.
Andrew believes that a large proportion of local anti-social
behaviour is fuelled by alcohol. A complex system of laws
makes the fight more difficult and can result in wasted
time and resources. This motion supports strengthening
and simplifying these laws and should help reverse the
situation.
