Greetings and Happy New Year from your new prez. At the time of this writing we have had our cars away for a few months. Mine is sitting in the warm garage with a car cover over, oblivious to the cold and snow just beyond the door. Just last week, I lifted the cover to reassure myself that every thing was OK. The car looks good, but unfortunately it needs valve work after the trip to Great Falls last September.

If you are anything like me, you are already beginning to think about projects to be done on your car before the rubber hits the road this spring. I have an area in the garage were I am beginning to assemble items to be done. Not unlike the Equinox, I believe car guys get a signal from Mother Nature that it is time to dive into our labour of love. For some other members of the club I am sure that work on the car has already commenced, or has been ongoing with the thought that this is the year to get it on the road. Remember, it doesn’t matter that not all cars are perfect, but they are all fun to own and enjoy. No matter what the state of your car is, bring your car out to events; members will appreciate it and show support and encouragement.

Late in 2007 the club voted to have the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter as the charitable organization for our club to assist financially. They were thrilled to be chosen by AMAC as our charity of choice and would love to have us out at some of their events and vice versa. They can always use volunteer help as well as financial assistance. As individuals of the Mustang club we should all be proud to be part of an organization that is showing commitment to help others. As clubs such as ours get new people, we get new ideas and we change and grow. I see this change as fantastic, maybe we can all think of ways we can raise money to help support the Calgary Women’s Shelter.

Right now there is a devoted group of members ( car nuts and wives ) eagerly working on the clubs World of Wheels display. We have won this event in 2006 and 2007, and will be a challenger and contender for 2008. I urge you to get out and help where you can, I can guarantee you will have fun and get to know a lot of nice people. If nothing else, get out to the World of Wheels, enjoy the show and support the club members.

After WOW, our next major event will be the Spring Fling, again it will be a catered supper and casino with wonderful door prizes. This year it will be held April 12 at the Killarney Glengary Community Association. Put it in your calendar now as the thing to do on April 12th, maybe we’ll get lucky and be able to bring our cars.

Until next time, take it easy on the ice and snow, and safe motoring.

Bob Walker, The Prez!

Apparently our favorite car can be found just about anywhere, as evidenced by this photo taken by AMAC member Wayne Hume on his Christmas vacation in Qatar!

Wayne says “the opportunity to have played golf on the 24th of December was a great trade off from shovelling snow, and the beer tasted much better on the golf course.” Not to mention that he got to visit with his new Granddaughter!

Cont’d…

5

Norm Johnson and a few other AMAC members made a quick trip state side during the Christmas Break to do a bit of shopping. And you thought us women were bad!

Notes from Norm:

Retrieving the car and getting through customs was super easy, thanks againto Ron Gorham and his tips. Russ, driving my wife's recently imported Subaru, did not have a easy time getting back into Canada. Stopping just short of a cavity search poor oldRuss was a unlikely victim of an overly aggressive Canadian Custom official. Seems like the border guard thought Russ was trying to import a car into Canada without declaring it. Anyway the car is gorgeous, the hassle was well worth it and thankfully Russ's virtue's was not compromised. We estimate that with all expenses to ship, travel and retrieve the car we saved between $9,000 -$11,000. And I made some very good Ford contacts in Phoenix that were very helpful.

6

Our World of Wheels build team has been very busy getting ready for the ‘big show’. Thanks to all our volunteers for their hard work!

AMAC events for 2008 will be in support of the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter. Fund raising for this wonderful agency will now be a part of each of our events. This means when you participate in a club event part of your admission or registration costs will go to the Shelter. One more great reason to participate in AMAC activities.

The Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter is a nonprofit agency that provides emergency shelter for women and children escaping domestic violence. We also offer support and prevention programs

September 02, 2007 ****** Great Falls, MontanaThe Annual Fall Meeting for the International Mustang Meet is held each year during the International Weekend. This year of course it was in Great Falls on Sunday Sept 2, with representation from most of the Clubs. The Clubs from Regina and Winnipeg were not represented this year. In my role as one of AMAC’s International Reps, the following is an overview of the meeting: (my notes only, these are not the official meeting minutes).

The first item on the agenda was that BJ Bouray was tendering her resignation as Secretary for the International. This was a post she had held for 21 years. (Those that were at the Banquet on Sunday night all gave her recognition when she was given some gifts for all her hard work). Thanks for all you have done over the years BJ!

Deb Taylor, from AMOA (Edmonton) volunteered to take minutes for the Sep 2 meeting. As well, there was a nomination from the floor for her to take on the role in a permanent capacity. She agreed, and the motion was carried. Welcome Deb!

A motion was brought forward and passed regarding having a 3rd colour for the “Open” classes at the International that do not have a Stock or Modified differentiation. This will be more appropriate, and properly show that the vehicle has gone through Tech. Bill Gocksch from Missoula, MT will look into this.

Motion carried that the Annual dues from each Club for the International will now be payable at the Winter Meeting. All Clubs are to ensure this is addressed.

There was another motion passed which said that to accommodate all of the participating Mustangersat the Friday night social, the host Club also needs to ensure there are non-alcoholic drinks and snacks made available during the event.

The 2008 Winter Meeting is tentatively scheduled for March 15, 2008. Additional details will be provided as the date nears.

Hope to see a bunch of you in Saskatoon next September, so why not book a room, register your car, and book some vacation time. Come out and I am sure you will have a good time.

Thanks,

Russ Penner

California Special Decals:

The beautiful Lime Gold colour needs just a little addition of black to set it off and the side decals and hood stripes were just the ticket.

The hood stripes are carefully masked off on the hood from the signal light bezel to the cowl below the front window. This was then sanded and re-taped to allow the acrylic enamel paint to stick. I used a flattening agent in the paint to take away the high shine and we then masked off the car to prevent over spray. When the paint was complete we removed the tape and masked area to see a perfect satin finish, this will require a polish to remove some dust later when it has cured. The decals were added with the help of both the hoist and a laser light to make the work as easy as possible. We first reviewed the location of the side stripe and with the laser light aligned on the car we masked off using a superior grade of masking tape where the top of the decal would begin. This allowed us to turn on the overhead lights and turn off the laser light and place the decal in place. This is a two man operation as one would pull the backing off as the other sticks it to the car using a plastic spatula. The scoop decal has the GT/CS on it and required some attention to detail as it had to fold under the edge of each scoop. The front fender extension/headlight bucket had to be undone a little as we also had to fold the decal behind the body part. When we finished with the decals and the hood

paint, the black and Lime Gold proved to be a perfect combination. The new tires and rims gave this car a great stance and ride.

California Dreamin continued …First Road Trip

Well the project is coming to an end and the car that once was a project is now a dream come true for her new owners Gary and Cindy Chomiak. Gary and I were just finishing up on some of the smaller details as we prepared to take our cars to the International Mustang Meet in Great Falls Montana during the Labor Day long weekend. The car needed fuel as all the other fluids have been topped up, so we very carefully guided the Cal Spec down my driveway and onto the road for the first time in many years. The motor sounded so good with those mufflers and the steering was very tight. We then approached the highway with Gary at the wheel of his new car accelerated to the speed limit and beyond. We drove directly to the gas station to fuel it up and planned to head right back, as night was approaching. The fueling up was done by the new owner at a self serve as there is no way Gary would trust a gas jockey to touch the car. When we were about to leave I was informed by Gary I would be driving, this is the moment I have been waiting for, since I purchased the car from the Owner of Carstairs Ford. I slowly entered the highway and tried all the options - the radio. The power brakes were very sensitive and the steering was bang on as I looked out over the hood with a big smile as I saw the signal lights and the black out stripes. I couldn’t resist I had to punch it and to my surprise it has a great kick as the shift kit in the tranny puts the 4bbl 302 through the gears. We brought the car back to the shop and got out to see any leaks or such that may need attention before the trip. We did notice the power steering pump was marking its territory and a quick tighten of the clamp was all that was needed. The next hour or so was Gary and I walking around the car admiring our work and identifying how this car will cure world hunger. Gary decided to take his new pride and joy home and as he rolled down the driveway onto the road a flat deck truck passed him with a 1968 GT Fastback secured to the bed. It’s funny how sometimes things have perfect timing, as this is to be our new project for the next year. The plans are now made, we will all meet at the Humpty’s on Macleod Trail and have breakfast before we all head out on highway

. #2 south to the US boarder. The Cal Spec pulls into the parking lot liked it owned it and glistened in the morning light as Gary and Cindy opened the doors . After a breakfast we hit the road with over 15 cars bound for Great Falls Montana.

California Dreamin continued …

continued …

It’s off to Great Falls Montana

The three Cal Specs traveled together and what a sight as we rolled past High River. I was secretly hoping Joe Jurcik was watching us travel down the road, as he had owned two of the Cal Specs heading to this car show. Joe was the original owner of the Lime Gold Cal Spec as he used it as a daily driver for many years before selling it in the late nineties or early two thousands. Joe was also the owner of the Royal Maroon Cal Spec that Bob Walker is proudly driving today. Jean Yves was also beaming with his freshly painted Meadowlark Yellow Cal Spec as they all lined up heel to toe on highway 2 South. We had a rest stop and a gas up as these old beauties are certainly not gas

friendly with heavy footed pilots. We all landed at the boarder and proceeded into the Duty Free shop to pick up our own brand of fuel to be consumed during those late nights viewing cars in the parking lot. We all got underway after our brief stop at the border and headed south on the Interstate with a planned stop in Shelby for lunch, for some strange reason we always stop in Shelby, must be the name! After a great lunch and some gas for our ponies we headed for Great Falls to check into the

rooms and wash the cars. I was traveling in my 2006 GT with the top down and for some reason got ahead of the group and missed out on all the excitement. Gary was driving along with his freshly rebuilt Cal Spec when all of a sudden white smoke spilled out from under it and clouded the highway. I am glad I missed this as my heart would have stopped. Wade quickly pulled over with

Gary and determined that the new Transmission was relieving itself of excess fluid through the overflow. (Remember we overfilled the C4 transmission in the earlier paragraphs). Well what a scare, but no damage just a mess under the car on the fresh new parts and paint, and this was cleaned up when we hit town. Gary and I quickly lined up for teching as the International Tech crew crawled all over the car with Russ in the lead.

Make sure to let them know you are an AMAC member!

The car was moved to the wash lane and we cleaned up all the fresh paint as this is picture day. The Lime Gold Cal Spec took her stance in front of the camera and did not disappoint anyone with the bright crisp lines and well polished chrome. All the cars were parked in the well secured area as we proceeded to meet with a bunch of old acquaintances and some new ones too. The next day is the reason we were all here, the SHOW & SHINE, and after we finished with final prep we headed for the show grounds to line up our cars with the competition. The Cal Spec’s have a category all their own and the three Calgary cars were real stand outs as they were all parked side by side.

This brings the California Dreamin project to a close and with a blink of a tail light we ride into the sunset to the next show.

THE END? No, the beginning
