COMMUNION

2

Friday, July 3, 2020, at 7 p.m. The LiNC invites you to participate in an online Communion Service from the comfort of your home. Within the Adventist denomination, we believe that Communion is an open service to those who feel the need to express their love and commitment to God. Everyone is encouraged to invite friends and family to join; people are reminded to remain within their "bubbles." This gathering will include the ability to wash one another's feet and partake of the emblems of remembrance.

It includes a foot washing ceremony and partaking of the Lord's Supper. Before the emblems of Christ's body and blood were distributed among the disciples, Christ washed their feet. "By the act of our Lord, this humiliating ceremony was made a consecrated ordinance." —The Desire of Ages, p. 650. The purpose of this ordinance, which is binding upon all Christians, is to lead the participants to search their hearts, see their roots of bitterness and other defects of character and clear away misunderstandings between brethren. John 13:1-17.

When asked, "What Communion means to you?" these were the replies from some of our Pastoral Staff.

Pastor Dave Boutcher replied, "Communion is a time of thoughtful reflection and gratitude."

Pastor Jonathan Gascoyne replied, "Communion to me, is a reminder of what Jesus did for us, to have reconciliation, unity, and a relationship with God. As we eat the bread at the same time, it's a symbol of His body, broken for us to be mending and knit together as one; as we drink, we think of the forgiveness we have received and freely give in this life, which is our guarantee of a restored and harmonious eternal life. The Lord's Supper, known as the communion service, is the memorial of Christ's sacrifice and points to His second coming. This service replaces the yearly Passover service of the Old Testament dispensation, but it is to be practiced more frequently, in harmony with our Lord's instructions through Apostle Paul. Matthew 26:28, 29; 1 Corinthians 11:26.”

Pastor Jamie Joseph replied, "The communion service reminds us that Jesus Christ loves us, so much so, that He died on the cross for us. It also reminds me of a beautiful promise that Jesus tells us in John 6:54 where He states: "whoever eats My flesh and drinks. My blood has eternal life, and I will raise Him at the last day." This scripture shares with us that the communion service points to the Second Advent of Jesus Christ. This promise gives me great comfort, and I look forward to the day when we will see Jesus come back to this earth with power and great glory to take us home. This is the blessed hope."

Everyone is welcome to attend, see below the things you will need for the service. If you do not wish to participate you are still welcome to come and enjoy the songs, testimonies, and remembrance.

Our login information will be the same as the Sabbath LiNC worship service. If you require assistance, please message your local Pastor, or message our Seventh-day Adventist Church in Newfoundland and Labrador Facebook page.

CHILDREN & YOUTH

Bay Roberts Adventurer Children Sell Plants Summer has come to Newfoundland and Labrador. Members have been thoroughly enjoying the sunshine, the new flowers, and this time of year vegetable planting! In the photo, you can see Eden and Isaac Chafe of the Bay Roberts Church selling their tomato, zucchini, cucumber, lettuce, and cabbage plants. After growing some plants with her Nanny, Eden decided to sell her plants and gift some proceeds to the Bay Roberts Adventure Club. Shortly after arriving, all the remaining plants were bought by Battens! Thank you, Eden and Isaac!

Youth Spotlight Gabrielle is a beautiful 'Young' lady of the Conception Bay South Seventh-day Adventist Church. Heading to grade 10 next year, Gabrielle is excited to spend more time with friends and continue studying English and

History. In her spare time, Gabrielle enjoys painting rocks, reading, writing stories, baking cookies, playing piano, and biking. As a member of the CBS church, her favorite part is helping out. She thoroughly enjoys the Children's Divisions and helping in the kitchen during potlucks. However, Gabrielle says, "I guess the best part is being with other people of the same faith." When asked if there was something that she would change, Gabrielle said, "I would have more youth and younger children in the church. It would be awesome to have a local youth group and do more children's programs for the community." Every year Gabrielle looks forward to Vacation Bible School programs, but desires to see something like this happen year-round as we can agree. Gabrielle has a passion and desire for the children in Newfoundland and Labrador. As she said, "Youth involvement is essential because the way the word is now, we need to take more responsibility in the church. Connecting with other people of the same faith and learning how to be leaders. We can't always leave it up to someone else." I want to encourage Newfoundland and Labrador to pray for Gabrielle as she continues to grow as a leader here in our province.
