Sotheby’s shattered the world auction record for any work of art when it sold Edward Munch’s The Scream for $120 million.

Sotheby’s set a record figure for the sale of an Islamic work of art when selling a 17th century carpet for $33.8 million.

Sotheby’s holds the record for a living artist’s work sold at auction – a Gerhard Richter piece, sold for $37.1 million.

The world record for a piece of jewellery, and for a single precious stone, sold at auction - CHF18.7 million - belongs to Sotheby’s.
