ARTIST IN RESIDENCE APPLICATION PACK

WELCOME

The City of Karratha in partnership with Rio Tinto proudly presents the

annual Cossack Art Awards. The awards have become the region’s

signature art event, offering a variety of highly anticipated art prizes.

Each year from mid July, the walls of historic buildings at Cossack are

transformed with a stunning display of diverse artworks by Australian

artists.

From 18 July to 8 August 2021, the 29th Cossack Art Awards will be open

for the public to enjoy.

There will also be a virtual gallery and online catalogue available for visitors

who are unable to attend in person.

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM

The Artist in Residence Program, sponsored by Rio Tinto, is a $15,000

program whereby an artist relocates to Cossack for a four week period. The

residency is intended as an opportunity for artists to focus on their artistic

practice in the unique environment that is the historical town of Cossack.

The 2021 Artist in Residence Program is open to all Western Australian

artists. The program will support the appointed artist by providing $15,000

to cover the cost of their accommodation, with the remaining funds being

provided for the artist’s fee, travel, art supplies and living expenses during

the residency.

It is expected that the appointed artist will live on site at Cossack for the

residency, working in the studio provided, to develop a body of work inspired

by their experiences. These works will be exhibited at a later date at the

Red Earth Arts Precinct.

The Artist in Residence Program is open to all Western Australian artists.

The presence of an Artist in Residence at Cossack is of great value to the

community during the Cossack Art Awards. Therefore it is expected that

during their residency and to communicate with members of the public who

visit their studio space. Further details are contained in this pack.
