HISTORY

In 1909, Eugene Schueller, a young chemist with an entrepreneurial spirit, founded the company. It all started off with one of the first hair dyes that he created, he then manufactured it and sold to Parisian hairdressers. As a young chemist in 1907, Schueller demonstrates his capacity for new ideas by creating his first hair dye formulae under the name L'Oreal, using a mixture of different chemical. The dyes were a new type of product at the time, which use henna or mineral salts but produce a bright, somewhat artificial look. In 1910 he succeeded in convincing the Paris hair stylists to use his dyes. In 1920 with the war finally over, women are becoming more independent as they are working more and earning money. Therefore, they are wanting to improve their appearance and are wanting to hide grey hairs so that it doesn’t reveal their age. In 1932 Eugène Schueller started to promote his work more by hosting events and inventing new advertising strategies. In 1931, he had the idea of draping a sheet over the face of a Parisian building to create a giant billboard for O’Cap hair lotion. In 1933 To encourage women to focus more on care products Eugène Schueller publishes a magazine named Votre Beauté, which is the first monthly women’s health & beauty magazine. In the years 1957 – 1983 it became number one in the beauty industry. In 1984 – 2000 L'Oreal started to become more and more famousNow in the 20th century it has become a daily product for many people and is part of their daily lives.
