Ceramic fibre paper, is a lightweightrefractory material processed from ablend of high purity alumina-silicafibres into a highly flexible,uniform sheet. It isrecommended forcontinuous use attemperatures up to1260C (2300F ).
Ceramic fibre paper, has lowshrinkage, good handling strength,and low thermal conductivity. It containsa small amount of organic binder for processing whichmakes it flexible, yet reduces off-gassing and odourduring use. Our product has a highly uniform structuredue to its controlled basis weight and thickness,assuring homogeneous thermal conductivity and aclean, smooth surface ideal for gasketing or sealing.
Ceramic fibre paper is completely free of asbestos andis designed to be an economic replacement forasbestos paper in most applications.
Ceramic fibre paper is easy to handle and is readily cutwith a knife, shears, or standard steel rule dies. Itsflexibility allows it to be wrapped or rolled to fit mostcomplex configurations.

Ceramic fibre board is a lightweight refractory materialprocessed with alumina-silica fibres for applications attemperatures up to 1600C (2900F).
Ceramic fibre board is a vacuum formed product thatresists higher gas velocities than ceramic fibre blanket.It is ideal for furnace, boiler duct and stack lining dueto its low thermal conductivity and low heat storageallowing shorter cycle times and quicker access formaintenance.

Ceramic fibre bulk is produced by the fusion of highpurity alumina-silica raw materials in an advancedelectric arc furnace. The fibres produced areexceptionally clean and consistent in quality andtexture.
Ceramic fibre bulk fibres are loose, long and flexiblewith high refractory properties, and are produced bythe "blown" and the "spun" processes. They are usedas the base for the production of blanket, moldable,and vacuum formed board and shapes.

Surface coating
At high temperature thecement forms a hard egg-shell ceramic film on mostclean and grease freesurfaces. This film iscompletely stable. Themajority of ceramic fibreproducts may be coatedwith ceramic fibreadhesive as a protectionagainst high gas velocitiesor against molten metalcontact.
Bonding
Ceramic fibre adhesive isrecommended as a hightemperature adhesive tobond ceramic fibreproducts together, or toattach them to porousrefractory surfaces such asinsulating fire brick orinsulating concretes.
Ceramic fibre adhesive can be applied by brushing, dipping orspraying. Surfaces should be free of grease,dirt and dust. The coatingthickness on solid surfaces should be as thin as possible, followed bydrying at temperatures up to a maximum of 90C. The viscosity of thecement can be reduced, if required, by the addition of small quantitiesof clean tap water.

Ceramic fibre adhesive is a high temperature, air setting cement for usemainly as a refractory surface coating, although generally used on ceramicfibre substrates it can also be used on porous materials such as insulatingfire brick and insulating concretes and will equally enhance their abrasiveresistance. The cement sets to form a strong hard film, which develops aceramic bond at high temperatures yet maintains excellent resistance tothermal shock. The maximum recommended surface temperature is1400C. It can also be used as an adhesive for ceramic fibre products.

Rigidizer is applied to the surface of ceramic fibreblanket, or other high temperature ceramic fibreinsulations by spraying or brushing. After air-drying,ceramic fibre rigidizer firms-up the refractory ceramicfibre, giving it tougher, more abrasion resistantcharacteristics. It is normally applied after the ceramicfibre is installed.
Rigidizer can be shipped in 5 litre or 25 litre plasticdrums. 5 litres of rigidizer covers approximately 5m2brushed or 100 square feet when sprayed.

Ceramic fibre moist felt is made from high-strengthceramic fibre blanket impregnated with an inorganicrigidizing agent that hardens when exposed to air.
Moist felt is ideal for insulation of complex shapes asit retains the shape to which it has been mouldedafter it dries.
The product is packed in a clear polythene bag tomaintain the wet binder during shipment and prior to
use. Care should be taken when handling the packedproduct as damage to, or freezing of the packagingcan activate the drying process or make the materialunusable.
Curing of the product can be accomplished by airdrying over a period of several days or by immediateexposure to temperature in the application. Curing ofthe product simply removes the water content fromthe inorganic binder.

YarnYarn is manufactured from ceramic fibre. This yarn isthe base of all the ceramic textile range of products.The yarn is reinforced with either a glass filament or afine inconel wire.
ClothCloth is woven from a glass or inconel wire reinforced yarn.
Cabled rope (high density)High density cabled rope is manufactured from yarnwhich is either glass fi lament or inconel wirereinforced. It is composed of 3 pre-twisted strandseach containing a predetermined multiple of yarnswhich are twisted together to form a flexible, highdensity rope.
Twisted ropeTwisted rope consists of a multiple of ceramic yarnstrands which can be either glass filament or inconelwire reinforced. They are twisted together to give therequired final product diameter. This gives a soft ropeproduct that is relatively easily compressed and isparticularly suitable as a seal between uneven surfaces.
WebbingWebbing is woven from either glass or inconel wirereinforced ceramic yarn.
Ladder tapeLadder tape is woven from either glass or inconel wirereinforced ceramic yarn. It has a similar weave to clothon the outer edges, but an open weave in the centreallowing for ease of installation over studs. It is ideal as agasketing material.

DALFRATEX is a range of inorganic fibres and textilesthat are capable of operating continuously at 1000Cand up to 1600C for limited periods. They will not meltor vaporize until temperature exceeds 1700C, andhave a high resistance to thermal shock. DALFRATEXproducts also provide flexible electrical insulation attemperatures as high as 1000C. Products are availableas textile cloths, tapes, sleevings, cords, braidedpackings, ropes and also as bulk fibres and batts.
DALFRATEX products are composed of continuousfilaments of amorphous silica, which combine theflexibility of fibres and textiles, with the refractoryproperties of silica.
In order to service the needs of a wide range ofapplications the majority of DALFRATEX products areavailable in two basic forms: standard and pre-shrunk.The standard form shrinks during initial heating andproducts of this type have letter U incorporated intothe code number. As their name implies, the pre-shrunk forms have been factory treated to conferbetter dimensional stability in high temperature use.
In addition to these forms a wide range of sacrificialorganic finishes are available which may be applied toparticular products where required for specific end uses.

During molten aluminium production processes it isoften a necessity to fi lter the metal to removeimpurities, inclusions and dross prior to casting. Thefilter cloth products produced by ims assist in removingthese unwanted particles.
The filter cloth range of products consists of wovenglass fabrics coated with either phenolic resin or fineceramic slurry to ensure that the product maintains itsintegrity during use. There are many weave styles tochoose from and our technical staff are on hand todiscuss your requirements.
It is important to consider the production process whenselecting your fabric style. Long and/or aggressiveproduction processes normally require 4 or 6 strandwoven cloth styles whilst 3 strand woven cloth stylesperform satisfactorily in standard alloy production.
Combo Bagsaluminium slab and t bar casting processes oftendemand metal flow and heat dissipation control.Combo bags are the ideal consumable for this part ofthe production process.
For casting of aggressive alloys or long duration casting(long drop cycles), combo bags can be manufacturedwith a heavy duty construction to ensure the integrityof the combo bag is maintained until the end of the cast.
Filter SockDuring the aluminium billet casting processit is advisable to filter the molten metal whilstit transitions through the launder system. Afilter sock (sometimes called launder sock) isideal for this application.
During the casting process the filter sock is held in thelaunder system via loops sewn into the filter sock,which are hung over metal fixings attached to thelaunder metalwork or alternatively by being insertedbetween two launder sections. Should the filter sockbe inserted between launder sections it is necessary tohave a compressible high temperature gasket sewninto a flange at the open end of the filter sock toensure no metal leakage between the launder joints.

Insulating Castables and Gunmixes
IMS supply a comprehensive range of InsulatingCastables and Gunmixes which are generally used asback-up insulation behind a hot face material such as aDense or Low Cement Castable. Temperaturegradients, thermal efficiency, atmospheric conditionsand strength generally determine the choice ofmaterial along with the maximum service temperaturerequirement. Certain applications where temperatureand abrasion resistance are not an issue allow the useof insulation castable as a one shot hot face liningtherefore exhibiting excellent thermal characteristics.Materials can be installed by casting or gunningtechniques the method chosen is generally dependantupon application, access and cost.
Dense Castables and Gunmixes
IMS supply a comprehensive range of Dense Castablesand Gunmixes which exhibit excellent strength andabrasion resistance. These materials can be used as aone shot lining or more commonly as a hot facematerial with an insulation grade as a back up lining.Again application conditions form a major part in thecorrect choice of material, whatever the applicationIMS can supply a suitable material. The hot face liningis the working lining of the vessel therefore it isessential that the chosen material exhibits the requiredcharacteristics to obtain optimum life. Resistances tothermal shock, abrasion, chemical attack, reducingatmospheres are a few of the key factors determiningchoice of material along with the maximum servicetemperature requirement. Materials can be installed bycasting and gunning techniques. The method chosen isgenerally dependant upon access and cost.
Plastics and Ramming mixes
IMS supply a comprehensive range of Plastics andRamming mixes which are both clay and chemicallybonded materials, installed by ramming techniques.Clay bonded materials exhibit a good green strengthwhen allowed to air dry. Chemically bonded materialsform their strength during the curing or heattreatment process. The choice of material is dependantupon temperature, atmospheric conditions, chemicalattack and application; Phosphate or chemicallybonded materials show excellent resistance tochemical or slag attack. The coarse grained nature ofboth these generic materials allows for good abrasionand thermal shock resistance. They are ideally suitedfor use in restricted areas such as boilers, ladle linings& burner quarls.
Low Cement Monolithics
IMS supply a comprehensive range of Low CementMonolithics which exhibit extremely high hot strengthand abrasion resistance characteristics. These materialsare more technically advanced than the family ofdense castables and show low porosity and goodresistance to slags where molten metals attack therefractory. In addition to their excellent performancecharacteristics we have materials available for everyconceivable application; these materials are termedfree-flow materials which can be installed bypumping or casting. The term free flow means they donot need vibrating into position therefore aidinginstallation. We also offer a range of multi-purposeLow Cement Castables which can be pumped,vibrocast or act as a free flow material. The strict wateraddition determines the mode of installation.
Silicon Carbide mixes
IMS supply Silicon Carbide materials which by theirnature possess excellent volume stability right throughtheir temperature range along with high abrasionresistance and thermal shock characteristics. Thesematerials are designed as free flow materials toeliminate the need for vibrating the product into place;thus eliminating grain segregation and maintaining ahigh strength profile. These materials are designed forspecialist applications and can be installed by castingor pumping into place.
Mortars
IMS supply a range of exclusive mortars exhibitingboth high refractoriness and bond strength. We supplyboth dry and ready mixed materials depending uponpreference. The materials produced cater for a widetemperature range and for more arduous applicationswhere the materials are prone to attack and reducingatmospheres, we have a hybrid range of productswhich show excellent resistance to attack thereforeretaining their original integrity for extended periods.IMS mortars are renowned for their use in the mostexacting of environments.

Material selection
It is important to ensure the correct selection of rawmaterial prior to casting. When selecting raw materialconsideration should be given to the demands of theapplication. The choice of material can ultimately dependupon cost and relative performance, however thecomplexity and required surface finish together with thephysical volume of the cast shape can also bedetermining factor. Our technical staff are on hand tooffer advice should this be required.
Casting
Once material selection has been completed and themoulds have been produced casting of the shape isundertaken. IMS cast shapes using several castingtechniques including vibration, vibroflow, free-flow, andslip. Consideration is given to the material shrinkageduring the firing/drying process and the mould ismanufactured oversize to accommodate this effect.The firing/drying process removes any excess water fromthe shape before despatch.
Inspection and despatch
As soon as the shape has been passed by our inspectiondepartment it is shrink-wrapped to reduce moistureingress during transit and then made ready for customercollection or delivery.
IMS provide extensive pre-casting facilities.
Mould manufacturing
The mould type used in the casting process oftendetermines the finished quality of the fired shape. IMSprovide an in-house mould-making service, wheremoulds can be manufactured from polystyrene, wood,plastic, plaster and steel substrates. Customers cansupply their own pre-manufactured moulds into whichIMS cast the refractory. In these instances it may benecessary for us to refurbish or in certain cases replacethe existing mould.
Drying/Firing
Drying/Firing of the cast shape is carried out in our stateof the art kilning department. Following firing the castshape undergoes final inspection. Rigorous testingmethods following stringent internal controls ensure thatthe finished shape meets the customer requirements.
All casting processes undertaken by IMS follow processcontrols as set out in the company ISO 9001 (2000) policydocument available on request.

Greenpak 85P is an 85% alumina chemically bondedplastic or moldable refractory. It possesses goodvolume stability and excellent resistance to slags andalkalis.
