Improving Instructional Strength Through Collaborative Inquiry and Innovation

  • 2 2020 Teacher Leader Institute • June 16-19

    Your Invitation to Attend

We are excited about the upcoming Teacher Leader Institute (TLI) in Oak Brook, IL, June 16-19, 2020! The TLI Committee has reviewed the 2019 evaluations and responded to your requests for deeper dives into data and collaborative inquiry. The theme of this year’s Institute is Improving Instructional Strength Through Collaborative Inquiry and Innovation.

Registration opens on Tuesday along with some special interest group sessions. The first is a session for Descu-briendo la Lectura (DLL) teacher leaders. The session for first-year teacher leaders has been reformatted based upon feedback from your evaluations. Panel discussions will expand new teacher leaders’ thinking around first-year implementations and beyond. Next, an optional distance learning special interest group meeting for beginners to experienced technology users will be held. Please plan to join us for the welcome reception on Tuesday evening as we introduce new teacher leaders and trainers to our Reading Recovery community!

During the opening session on Wednesday, Chad Lochmiller will discuss plans for supporting the renewal of the Reading Recovery network through the use of Improvement Science. Next, based again on your feedback, we will hear from Jeff Brymer-Bashore as we explore data during a second general session. The breakout sessions that follow will delve deeper into our data and provide opportunities for you to strengthen your role as a teacher leader as we collaborate with our colleagues.

On Thursday, after the teacher leader business meeting, a general session and working session focus on the new, exit-status categories for end-of-program. These sessions will be followed by a repeat of the

breakout sessions from Wednesday. The UTC caucus meetings that afternoon will include time for structured reflection, discussion, and planning next steps.

Friday will begin with an IDEC update followed by a general session focusing on what is currently being done in the Reading Recovery community around Improvement Science and its impact on your role as teacher leader. The last general session will provide a further exploration into our understanding of the new, exit-status categories. The second half of the DLL session will follow.

We’re excited to join you at the 2020 Teacher Leader Institute! We anticipate valuable learning through  enhanced understandings of Improvement Science, data inquiry, and the value of continuing to ask questions to support our personal learning and the learning of the students and teachers we serve. We thank the 2020 TLI Committee members Janet Bufalino, Adria Klein, Hope Woods Griffin, Kim Reynolds, and Amy Smith for their help in planning the upcoming institute.

    Sincerely,
