This newsletter from Cairns Regional Council
is aimed at keeping you up to date with works, services and activities in DIVISION 5 which takes in Cairns City, Cairns North, Portsmith, Westcourt, Parramatta Park, Bungalow and Aeroglen.
n Completion of the new 2.4km Yellow Arrow Trail, as well as new parking area (Aeroglen end), picnic shelter and toilet block (pictured)
n Street lighting upgrades undertaken in Sheridan and Grafton Streets
n Asphalt overlays completed for Smith Street (McLeod-Sheridan), Moffat Street, Airport Ave (Lake to Sheridan), and Arthur St (McLeod to Sheridan).
n Stormwater drain re-lining works done near Smith Street and Charles Street, Esplanade
n Car parking reconfigurations completed for Lake Street and Kerwin Street
n North Esplanade Activity Precinct works, including expansion of the beach volleyball complex to four full-sized courts and a warm-up court, and a multi-use court.
n Pedestrian crossing upgrade done on Pier Point Road
n Footpath upgrade completed for Marlin Parade, Wharf / Abbott Streets (east side)
n Lake Street car park building improvement works continued (due to be completed late December)
n Traffic signals upgraded to energy efficient LED bulbs at Aplin/McLeod St intersection and Abbott/Aplin St intersection
n Barlow Park track refurbishments undertaken
n New playground established in Curtin and Creedy Streets Park, Westcourt
n New toilet block commenced for Grafton St (corner of Spence St)
n Reseal done on Brown St (from Morehead to Hartley Streets)
n New asphalt footpath constructed on Kenny Street (Bunda to Dutton Streets)
n Draper Street cycleway works undertaken, east side of Spence to Kenny Streets
n Draper Street road rehabilitation (Hartley to Kenny Streets) completed
n Hasell Street lined drain reconstruction done
n Tills Street road and drainage improvements completed (Mann St to Mulgrave Rd)
n Road rehabilitation on Buchan Street, from Hartley to Kenny Streets
n Bike racks installed on Lake and Abbott Streets
n New parking bays in Severin Street between Victoria Street and Loeven St
n Cairns Hospital park upgraded

Works, Services & Activities started or completed in the last quarter
Council offices will be closed from 22 December, re-opening on 2 January 2018. An after-hours call centre will be available at all times for urgent matters via the normal Customer Service phone number: 1300 692 247. Check Council’s website for operating times of public facilities.

CBD parking changesCouncil is making changes to parking in the hospital precinct and in the CBD to improve turnover of vehicles and make it easier for you to find a car park.The changes, which are due to come into effect from 1 January, are:n Creating more than 350 car parks in the hospital precinctn Introducing a better mix of short, medium and long-term parking options around the hospitalsn 20c per hour increase in parking feesn 15% increase in parking fines (subject to a Local Laws amendment)n Increased time-limited parking hours to 8.30am to 6pm, Monday to Sunday.
GET THE RIGHT INFORMATION THIS WET SEASONDo you want a quick way to find out all the latest disaster advice and information this wet season?The Cairns Disaster Dashboard is a single point of reference for information and advice during a disaster, providing information from Council, emergency services, utilities such as Ergon and Telstra, road status updates, and traffic and flood cams.During an emergency the dashboard will be updated in real time with things like road closures, power outages and notifications of any shelters that may be opened.Outside of activations, the website will have links to all Council resources to help residents prepare for natural disasters. It will include storm tide zones and evacuation routes, as well as material to help with making a Household Emergency Plan.The home page of the Disaster Dashboard also contains a link to register for the new Cairns Alert emergency messaging service. Cairns Alert will enable you to get advice during a disaster via your email, sms and voice message.Registering for Cairns Alert can be done by going to www.cairns.qld.gov.au/cairnsalert or through the Disaster Dashboard at disaster.qld.gov.au
