Patient care More than a third of survey respondents indicated the search results had an impact on patient care, contributing to an overall improvement in patient outcome, as well as helping inform choice of tests, medications, monitoring, and intervention. The results of expert searches also helped avoid adverse events and critical incidents, reduce hospital admissions, and contributed to a reduced length of stay. Time-saving A whopping 91% of respondents said that Librarian assistance saved them up to or more than 3 hours of their time had they attempted to do the search unassisted. Quality of results The free text comments consistently emphasized the greatly improved quality of search results achieved in consultation with the librarians as compared to unassisted searches. Who and why The majority of respondents were RCH employees, but there were significant numbers of MCRI employees, and post-graduate students. Doctors and nurses were equal majority, followed by students and allied health professionals. Just over half of all literature searches was for research or publication, while 12% related to developing or revising guidelines, policies, or service design. Personal study, including PhD studies, accounted for a quarter of all searches. Find out more about this service on the website, or contact us for more information. No.14, 29 th July, 2019

DynaMed Plus at the University of Melbourne Do you have access to University of Melbourne Library resources? If so, have a look at DynaMed Plus, a clinical information tool which is an alternative to UpToDate.

DynaMed Plus offers clinicians fast access to concise overviews, as well as evidence-based recommendations for action. It has adopted the GRADE system to make it easy for clinicians to understand the quality of the evidence supporting each recommendation.

It has medical graphics and images from organizations like the American College of Physicians, the JAMA Network, Centers for Disease Control, Radiopaedia and Massachusetts General Hospital Infectious Diseases database.

Thousands of images are searchable as well as being embedded in relevant topics. The database is updated 24x7x365.

University of Melbourne staff and students can access the DynaMed Plus App by creating a personal user account within the database then following the instructions on the DynaMed Plus App support page to download and log in to the app.

Join the Cochrane Crowd and contribute to health evidence Cochrane is an international organisation that summarises the best evidence from research to help people make informed choices about treatments – and the creator of the Cochrane Library.

The need for Cochrane's work is even greater than when it started 20 years ago. As access to health evidence increases, so do the risks of misinterpreting complex content; meanwhile the likelihood of any one person getting a complete and balanced picture decreases.

Cochrane’s mission to provide accessible, credible information to support informed decision-making has never been more important or useful for improving global health.

Cochrane Crowd is Cochrane’s citizen science platform. It was launched in 2016. It hosts small discrete tasks that help identify and describe health research. Anyone is welcome to sign up and join this collective effort. Accompanying each task is a comprehensive, yet brief, training module. The main micro-tasks relate to helping identify randomised trials.

There are currently over 13,000 contributors to Cochrane Crowd, from 189 countries, having completed over 3 million classifications. Read more.

National Partnership on Essential Vaccines: performance report 2017–18

This report provides an assessment of state and territory performance against 4 of the 5 performance benchmarks outlined in the National Partnership on Essential Vaccines, for the assessment period 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2018. The

fifth benchmark was not assessed in this period.

The report shows that 6 jurisdictions met all 4 benchmarks, with one benchmark being either partly met or not met in each of the other 2 jurisdictions.

BOOKS

[online] The art and science of physician wellbeing: a handbook for physicians and trainees / Laura Weiss Roberts, Mickey Trockel, editors. Springer, 2019. This thoughtful and timely book offers physicians and trainees a wide range of insights and

strategies to help ensure not only a healthy lifestyle and sense of wellbeing but the best possible career in medicine as well. With evidence and evidence-informed practices provided by experts, this title affirms the culture of medicine while embracing the fundamental, enduring sense of physicians’ calling and affirming the importance of physicians as individuals whose health and wellbeing has intrinsic value and value to others.

Organized in three parts, the first part focuses on the nature of the health professions and on

advancing a culture of wellbeing in medicine. The second part focuses on threats to physician wellbeing, including mistreatment during training and burnout, to name just a few.

The third part outlines approaches to strengthening physician resilience, such as the sustenance drawn from healthy relationships, mindfulness approaches, and optimal approaches to exercise, nutrition and sleep.
