To the ICU staff, thank you!

I want to take a moment to thank you and all the ICU staff once again for the care you provided my wife, Linda. Yes-terday she was moved from ICU to an acute care ward, which is a step toward full recovery. Her ‘numbers’ are all with-in acceptable ranges and her strength is returning. Doctors here are amazed at how well she continues to improve, making substantial progress each day. She can now talk, move her arms and legs, and turn herself in bed.

I also want to tell you that all the physicians who have seen her since our return have been very complimentary with respect to the level of care she received in Uganda. After reading your report, several doctors (including the head of the ICU) told me that you did exactly what they would have done had she been presented here. They noted that 50% of the patients they see who have septicemia do not survive, even with the most up-to-date equipment and ready access to state-of-the-art medicines available in a major US teaching hospital.

Each of the doctors I’ve spoken with noted that they believe her survival in a less sophisticated medical environment is a testament to your skill and professional acumen, as well as that of your staff. Clearly they admire what you did, and Linda and I appreciate that more than we can say.

We wish you all the very best and we keep you in our prayers. May God always bless you.

Warm regards, (George T. Raach - September 2013)

My son was in safe hands at IHK!

My son was transferred to the IHK intensive care unit following an accident. He had initially been admitted elsewhere. Upon admission to IHK, we were reassured that the team would take care of his needs including his personal care which I was initially skeptical about.

The family realized quickly enough that the team indeed saw to his every need and kept us informed at every stage. We also observed that the team is close knit and are well synchronised. He was eventually discharged to the main ward where we worked closely with some of the team and would like to thank one nurse in particular, Yusuf. He has now been discharged home where we will continue to receive support from the nursing and physiotherapy depart-ments. We would like to thank all that were involved in his care, in particu-lar Doctors Emma, Arthur & Chirabwire plus the ICU team as well as the nursing and physiotherapy teams.

Peruth Epenu - January 2014

IHK staff took good care of me!

I kindly extend my deepest heartfelt appreciation to especially the following Doctors: Dr. Buza Eria, Dr. Sam Bagirana and Dr. Mwesigye Micheal for the kind hearts they had towards me when treating me when I was in a critical condition with a tube in my lungs!

They made me have hope for my life, and I felt I would soon get out of my sick bed and indeed it happened within a period of one week.I would also like to thank one of the

lady doctors who was always checking on me in the early morning rounds; I believe it was Dr Jackie. I would like to take this opportunity to thank one of the nurses (Florence) who was always checking on my oxygen and sometimes putting drip for me, with her nice smile and encouraging words! I would like to thank everybody who treated me and may the Almighty God continue to bless and keep you and reward you!

I would also like to thank the whole International Hospital Administration for the good service provided. I was admitted on the night of 8th September, and discharged on the 15th of September.

God bless all of you, and keep up the good work!

Alungat Janet - October 2013

The care and attention you give is exceptional!

This is to register my appreciation to the medical team at IHK. Thank you so much for all the care, attention and treatment. I was admitted on Thursday 11th July 2013 with a lot of pain in the neck region. Special thanks to the lady who was at the reception at the time (10:00 pm). She worked fast to see to it that I was seen by a doctor. I can’t forget the sense of humour and demeanor Dr. Alice Kateregga used to convince me that I will soon regain my life. The empathy from her when I cried having learnt that she will extract synovial fluid from my spinal cord meant a lot to me. The experience she used to extract that fluid, I can’t tell. I had dreaded the entire procedure. However it was done pretty fast.

The nurses at IPD 2 did an incredible job, even while I experienced a great deal of pain, I remember their names: Viola, Darlington, Zubaira, Zainab Nambogo, Zahara, Joan, Caroline Anyango, Jackline and Damalie. Thank you so much. Doctors Phoebe, Richard & Mwesigwa checked on me regularly. I would also like to thank Doctors Hussein and Anne.

Through you, Allah saved me. Ssebbanja Hossam Hassan Edris
