BAA is a non-profit, community-based, and m e m b e r s u p p o r t e d organization. The BAA relies on our members to help fund the arts, cultural and charitable activities held each year. Benefits include belonging to an organization that encourages participation and appreciation of the arts through art exhibits, membership meetings, networking, BAA newsletter “Images” and BAA website. MISSION STATEMENT Hello all my BAA friends!! I am very excited to be Executive Director simply because I love BAA and want it to continue to be a great organization. I feel like I have big shoes to fill as Noel Hawke did such a great job. Our Annual Meeting and Spring Banquet was such a wonderful success with 49 members present; wonderful speaker, John Potter; great food and socializing. We have two great workshops coming this summer: Connie Herberg and Stan Miller. As you can see from the information below, they are both established art instructors and I know we will all learn from them and improve our own artist talents. I do believe art is something you have to continually actively pursue and practice in order to become the best artist you can be and improve your craft. In the spirit of community involvement, we need two co- chairs for the Gainan’s Exhibit in September. We also need a volunteer to oversee our Images Art Grants program. I am looking forward to seeing you at the upcoming BAA picnic on June 2. Ev Bergeron DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

NEW BAA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Ev Bergeron, Executive Director Ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated by art even though I grew up on a northeastern Montana farm with no artistic influences. One of my most memorable Christmas presents was an art box with oil paints when I was about 12. I obtained an BA degree in fine art and have taken workshops from Ben Steele, Marilyn Hughes, Bernadine Fox, Mike Capser, Susan Blackwood, Nita Engel, Tony Couch, Elliott Eaton, Mary Blain, Stephen Rothwell, Ron Ranson, Lance Johnson, Joe Fettingis, Stan Miller, Joseph Zbukvic, Morten Solberg, Gloria Miller Allan, Kathy Anderson, Marc Hanson, John Potter, Daniel Keys, Jerry Inman, Frank Serrano, John Pollock, Connie Herberg,

Michael Ome Untiedt, and Tyler Murphy. My art journey, of course, continues and I am always eager to learn and evolve. !

Susan Lyons, Assistant Director I am a Montana native without formal training, though I have taken art classes and have participated in painting workshops. A past contributor to the YAM Art Auction, I have had artwork accepted into juried shows. I have also written and illustrated two fantasy/adventure stories for young readers. I enjoy working in several mediums, from watercolors to pastels. My favorite subjects are found in the natural world. !!

Lisa Carnicom, Secretary Lisa likes the scent of graphite, and the very mineral way it behaves. Lisa has fallen in love with graphite the way one falls in love with the poetry of Rabindranath Tagore. Cycling and poetry are among her favorite forms of transportation. !This Autumn she will return to South India to investigate the Field of Possibility. How Lisa can best discover the greater purpose - the service to humankind and to Nature - to writing and illuminating the sort of poetry she writes. !

Oh yeah, and world peace. Her primary purpose in traveling to India is pilgrimage to a behemoth, beautiful, white marble temple known as "Ekam" or "The Oneness Field" in Andhra Pradesh. Lisa & others from Montana - including Billings - are going to meditate in Ekam for one week to positively affect the consciousness of all humanity. When she returns, she will surely be redolent of ylang ylang and will exude champagne-colored light from all her pores (That makes it worth putting up with the mosquitos). !

Eva Morganthaler, Treasurer I have been a member of BAA and Treasurer for several years. Originally I started with floral design and then oils. Now I enjoy watercolors. I love taking classes and workshops, I always learn something new. I'll try any craft project at least once, sometimes once is enough. There have been a lot of changes in the BAA over the years always moving in a positive direction and the friendships are a wonderful benefit.

BAA PICNIC!

Saturday, June 2, 2018 11 AM to 2 PM !

Lavonne Rice-Gordon’s Garden 2517 Downer Lane

Billings, MT !!!Lavonne Rice-Gordon has generously offered to host a BAA potluck picnic in her garden yard. The June 2 date means we may still see Lavonne's blooming irises. !BAA will provide the drinks, plates, napkins, cups and utensils. Members should bring a cassorole, salad or dessert to share, and their own lawn chairs. Spouses are welcome, as are children in care of an adult.

The Canyon Creek Elementary PTO put on an Art Night March 16, 2018 for their students. The PTO received an Images Grant from BAA. Several artists demonstrated their art and there were tables set up for hands-on activities for the students. At Susan Lyons’ table, they made bookmarks with paper, paints, markers, and packing tape to ‘laminate’ the bookmarks. An assembly line was aided by parents and older student helpers, and it was a busy table! Everyone was pleased with their creations. !!!!!

SANDSTONE GALLERY

Sandstone Gallery has asked BAA to rent two 4 ft wide x 8 foot high panels for two month!sessions starting in April. That means we have April-May, June-July, August-September and!October-November. December will not be part of the agreement.!!BAA has decided to give all members a chance to participate and has divided the panels into (4)!3 ft high x 4 ft wide spaces that cost $25.00 per section. The $25.00 is paid to BAA Treasurer, P. O. Box 81273, Billings, MT 59108. We would like to receive payment two weeks in advance so that the BAA treasurer can make payment a week in advance. Within this spacing exhibitors will want to leave about 3 to 4 inches on all sides around their grouping so you are looking at about 2’-6” high x 3’-6” wide from edge of your paintings to edge of your paintings. Exhibitors will also want to allow 3 inches to 4 inches between their paintings. Please take the time to lay out your artwork to fit within these spacing. Sandstone Gallery will hang the artwork. A small table will be provided by Sandstone for business cards and greeting cards with prices on tape on the back of the cards. Exhibitors need to negotiate items placed on this table.!!Before signing up please read the following requirements:!1. ! Artwork must be delivered to Sandstone Gallery ready for hanging with D-rings!and wire during the week prior to the first of the month the exhibit starts. Sandstone is closed Sunday!and Monday.!2. ! Artwork must be picked up the final day of the month that your exhibit ends. If you are!unable to pick it up then you must find someone who can and please write a permission!slip so they know this is your representative. You may want to contact Sandstone close!to the closing of the exhibit to verify pickup dates.!3. ! Sandstone wants exhibitors to be at the Artwalk which will be held the first Friday of the!month that your exhibit time starts. They also request that exhibitors bring veggies, fruit,!cookies but no sandwiches or meats.!4 ! If you have photos of your work please send to Jennifer at jensstudiogallery.com.!She will post on Facebook.!5. ! Before you deliver your work to Sandstone, please send to Donna [email protected] the title of the artwork, artist’s name, medium and price. Your!price must include Sandstone’s 30% commission. Donna will make the tags that!Sandstone puts with your artwork. Please put BAA’s tags on the back of the artwork so!they can match Sandstone’s tags with your work.!6. ! To register please contact Laurel Hanson at [email protected] or 406-256-9181!to register for an exhibit session. Please leave your name, telephone number and e-mail!address. Please note that we want to allow everyone a chance to exhibit if they so!desire.!7. ! If an exhibitor must remove their artwork during the exhibit period, they must contact!Laurel Hanson and Sandstone Gallery to make arrangements for removal. Sorry, but we!will not be able to refund any portion of the fee.!8. ! If a piece of artwork sells, Sandstone will deduct their commission and pay the BAA!Treasurer by the 1st or 2nd Thursday or the next month—example: If work sells in April,!Sandstone will issue a check to the BAA treasurer on the 1st or 2nd Thursday of May.!The BAA Treasurer will then issue a check to the exhibitor.!
