After a long and chilly winter where snow fell as far asFebruary, its hard to believe that spring is now just aroundthe corner. The mornings are brighter, the days are longerand were starting to think about shaking off our woolly layers andgetting back outside.But with this flurry of cheerful activity comes the harsh reality thatwe may have neglected our homes during those chilly months which becomes apparent when we see our home in the naturalsunlight.A layer of dust seems to have accumulated on every surface, thewindows and roof have suffered from the lashings of rain, thegarden path is overgrown with weeds and how long has thatstain been on the carpet? It looks vaguely like a mince pie. The time has come to spring clean! No one looks forward to theannual deep clean, but when the flowers start blooming you knowits time to drag your house out of the winter blues and give yourhome some much-needed TLC.With a little elbow grease and a lot of love your house can bebeautiful again and have that fresh spring look. Follow thesesimple steps for a happier home.

Check the roofWith heavy rain, chilly snow and stormy winds up and downthe country, your roof will have suffered a beating this winter.As spring approaches, it is essential to check that no seriousdamage has been done. This can be done yourself or, if thethought of climbing onto the roof leaves you feeling queasy,you can hire a professional roofer instead. Beighton WI unveilswall hangingBeighton Womens Institutes craftgroup has created a wall hangingdepicting all aspects of Beighton life.

Over the course of three years, 15craft members mapped the villageand produced panels using variouscraft skills, and seven membersstitched these panels onto a backing,bordering it with details of communitygroups and establishments notfeatured on the main panel. Thefinished hanging was fireproofed andnow hangs in the Limes Club inBeighton.

It was officially unveiled by ChrissieBooth, chair of Derbyshire Federationof Womens Institutes, followed by asocial evening and buffet.
