HONORS & AP CLASSESA variety of Honors and AP courses are offered to high performing and motivated students. There are 19 AP and 57 Honors courses offered at Carmel Catholic. In spring 2014, 290 students took AP exams. Forty-eight percent earned a score of four or five, well above state and global averages.

TECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOMIn 2012, Carmel Catholic launched the 1:1 Student Computing program, positioning Carmel Catholic as the leading digital high school in Lake County and among the first in the Chicago area. The program enables each student to have his or her own tablet computer. Additionally, each classroom is fully equipped with a screen projector and sound system that attaches to the teacher’s laptop. Should an issue arise with a student’s tablet, the Tab Lab is open throughout the school day for expert technology support.

CHRISTIAN SERVICE PROGRAMCarmel Catholic believes that the spiritual growth students experience through ministry to others will lead to a lifetime commitment to service. All students participate in the school’s Christian Service Program, which requires each student to perform 20 hours of service to the community each semester. Upon graduation, 160 hours of Christian service will have been completed.

PRAYERAll class periods, assemblies, school liturgies, athletic events and extracurriculars begin in prayer.

KAIROS RETREATSeniors participate in a Kairos retreat one time during their high school experience. Described by many students as “life-changing,” these four-day faculty and student-led retreats give young people a chance to see God at work in their daily lives.

COLLEGE AND CAREER RESOURCESThe College and Career Resource Center helps students gain acceptance into some of the finest universities in the nation by guiding students and parents each step of the way. Carmel Catholic’s college counseling program begins during sophomore year when students gain insights into their academic strengths and interests. During junior year, students have the opportunity to meet representatives from colleges and universities during the school day or during numerous College Resource Nights held throughout the year.

Many families find that carpools are the most convenient way to travel to and from Carmel Catholic. On-campus parking is available to all senior and some junior students.

Carmel Catholic provides supervision to students who arrive at school as early as 6:30 a.m. and leave as late as 5:00 p.m.

THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS

Step 1: Take the Entrance ExamAll students entering ninth grade must take the entrance exam, which will be administered on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 8 a.m. Following the exam, the admissions committee reviews the test scores and admissions application. Test reservations are not necessary.

Step 2: ApplyComplete and return the application for admission with all requested information to Carmel Catholic High School by January 23, 2015.

Step 3: AcceptanceOnce your application is reviewed, you will receive a decision letter in mid-February.

Factors that influence admission to Carmel Catholic include: the prospective student’s entrance exam score, junior high school report cards, previous standardized test scores, participation in co-curricular activities, the junior high school attended by the student, as well as alumni relationships with Carmel Catholic.

TUITION AND FEESTuition for the 2014-2015 school year is $10,350. There are additional fees for athletics, certain classes, course materials and some clubs. All freshman applicants are required to make a $400 deposit at the time of application. Students who are not accepted to Carmel Catholic will be refunded their application fee.

Carmel Catholic offers three payment plans: payment in full, two-payment plan (one payment at the beginning of each semester) and a monthly plan. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCECarmel Catholic has a financial aid assistance program available to families who qualify. For the 2014-2015 school year, Carmel Catholic awarded more than $1.2 million in financial assistance.

Upon completion of the admissions application, families must complete a confidential financial assistance application and submit it to the outside vendor who evaluates the application.

• Early Consideration (incoming freshman only): Submit your application for financial aid by January 30, 2015 and provide all necessary support documentation by February 6, 2015. You will receive results of your financial aid in February.

• Standard Consideration: Submit your application for financial aid and all necessary support documentation by April 1, 2015. You will receive results of your application in early June.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIESIn addition to the financial assistance offered by Carmel Catholic, a number of partial scholarships are awarded, including entrance exam scholarships, parish-offered scholarships and minority scholarships.
