In the Council Chamber Capt M I Coxe was selected to preside during ho preliminary organisation of the meeting In taking the chair the stated that years ago an attempt had been made by the old soldiers q Palatka to organize an old soldiers association but from some cause the effort had not proved a success and that he understood the object of the present meeting was to complete the old organization or effect a new one Dr W H Cyrus at this time ap- peared In the chamber and gave a short account of the old organization and suggested that the present meet- Ing proceed to organize a new associa- tion to bo known as Palatka Veteran Association whoso object should be purely of a memorial char- acter That when requested by the frlhnds of deceased comrades of either army they should attend os a guard of honor This suggestion met favorable approval and on motion the meeting elected the following officers Captain J DPoints First Lieutenant W Hi Cyrus Second Lieutenant M I Coxe
