Solemnity of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary
August 15 – A Holy Day of Obligation The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary celebrates the Catholic teaching that Mary was assumed into heaven, body and soul. She received this gift of grace as a consequence of her Immaculate Conception which teaches that she was without sin (immaculate) from the first moment of her life at conception in the womb of
her mother, Saint Anne. And therefore she was not subject to the corruption due to sin; and was assumed into heaven. This gives her special honor and privilege as also we hope to follow her into the Kingdom that Jesus has prepared for us. To celebrate this solemn feast in union with the entire Church in heaven and on earth, all Catholics are obligated to attend Mass for this Holy Day. Feel welcomed to attend our parish Healing Service. This is an opportunity to experience the grace of Christ in our lives. He is the Divine Physician, the Healer, for all our wounds, hurts, disappointments.
He is the Healer for our bodily physical ailments, illnesses, diseases. Jesus is the Healer who comes to us with consolation and acceptance in difficult times. Join Father Jerome and others with readings from Scripture, Songs, Adoration of the Holy Eucharist and Prayers.

God Is Calling You to a Deeper Relationship with Him If we consider that God is the Divine Bridegroom and the Church is his Bride, then the prophets can be seen as “spiritual marriage counselors.” They afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted, calling us to return to our covenant relationship with God. They urge us to repentance, warn us of the dangers of sin, and announce the blessings of faithfulness. Their prophetic words speak to us even today, as they draw us closer to our heavenly Bridegroom.

“Raise your Artistic Standing with SVDP Adult Choir”
St. Vincent de Paul Adult Choir is inviting all who enjoy music, singing and fellowship to join in the fun. The choir is a friendly group that prays together, rehearses on Tuesday evenings (7:15 PM to 9:00 PM in the church) and sings on Sundays at the 10 AM Mass. Come and learn more about your hidden talents, body posture, general health and ability to produce resonant sound. Training will be provided.

in an age-appropriate way. The children return to the church during the collection.

A Journey for exploring the Catholic Faith Anyone interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith is welcome to begin this process as we gather on Wednesday nights from 7 PM to 8 PM in Meeting Room C. These gatherings are offered all year round. New participants are welcome at any time during the year. Anyone interested in exploring the Catholic Faith is invited to come to our gatherings whether you have questions or just want to learn more about Jesus, Mary, the saints, spirituality or simply how to pray and grow in wisdom. Adults Sacraments Registrations are available for adults who are over 19 years old and would like to receive the sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion. Women’s Bible Study Beginning Monday, September 11, 2017, at 9:15 AM in the Parish Hall, we invite you to deepen your understanding of Scripture by gaining insights from the Gospel of John. This study is a sharing with other women in a small group setting. Cost: $25 for book.

Join us for the 23rd Annual SVDP Golf Tournament
on Thursday October 26th
At beautiful Costa Mesa Golf Course. All golfers will enjoy a round of golf, lunch, dinner, straight line contest and goodie bag for a $150 donation. Additional contests are available as part of the $35 special contest
package. Registration forms are available on the website or in the Parish Office. Even non-golfers can participate in the post-golf awards dinner and opportunity drawings. Join us at for a delicious Italian buffet dinner for just $25, or $150 for a table of eight. Don't golf but have some free time on the 26th? Consider helping at the tournament, registering golfers, observing contests and assisting with the opportunity drawings.

SUNDAY MASS CHILDCARE TIMES Childcare is available during the 10:00 AM, 11:30 AM, and 5:00 PM Sunday Masses in Meeting Room #4. Care and activities regarding the Sunday readings are provided to children ages 2 to 6. Please call the Faith Formation Office if you are interested in volunteering.
Greeting & Hospitality Ministry Opportunities at Sunday Mass
Hospitality Ministers serve at the Saturday or Sunday Mass they typically attend each weekend making these positions perfect for those who have a desire to be active in their
parish and faith, but are pressed for time during the work week. Ministers are asked to commit to serving once a month (12 times a year) and once during an Easter or Christmas mass. All ministers will receive training prior to beginning their ministry. Training for new Greeters and Hospitality Ministers will take place on Monday, August 28 at 7 PM in the Church. Father Andrew Bellisario, CM Named Bishop of Juneau Alaska
Father Andy was Pastor of our parish from 1990 – 1995. His Holiness Pope Francis has named Father Andrew E. Bellisario, C.M., 60, as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Juneau, Alaska. Father Bellisario is a member of the Vincentian Fathers and Brothers. For the past two years Father Bellisario has served as the Superior of the International Mission of the Vincentians in Alaska, and since May of 2016 as the Pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Co-Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Anchorage. “I am humbled and grateful to our Holy Father, Pope Francis, for appointing me as the next Bishop of Juneau,” Father Bellisario said. “It is with humility, respect and great joy that I look forward to serving the people of the Diocese of Juneau.” He will be ordained as Bishop of Juneau on October 10, 2017. Keep Bishop-elect Bellisario in your prayers for his fruitful ministry.
