Unique features for the energy supply of the future in Berlin-Brandenburg:
Technologies and applications
Application level
•Large supply on renewable energies in the regional transmission and distribution grids in comparison with
other German and European regions with the chance for a developement of new supply structures
•Coverage of all relevant energy supply structures and energy networks (power, gas, dirstrict heating, water)
§Megacity, Suburbs, small cities as consumer and decentral producer of energy
§Surrounding countryside with large-scale generation and network structure facilities
§Innovative transportation infrastructure based on electric vehicles, hydrogen and gas-powered vehicles
Provider level
Contributions of regional manufacturer / supplier to a leading region for future integrated energy supply
systems:
• Coverage of all relevant network system skills (installation and integration, operation, reliability, MRO)
for all branches and levels of power (electricity, gas, heat, water)
• Presence of all relevant core competencies for the joint integration of fossil and renewable generation in
existing and future energy networks (electricity, gas, heat, water)
• Critical mass of providers of grid components on medium and low voltage level
• Well founded knowledge of integration and operation of energy storage in networks of all sizes (isolated
networks, decentralized and centralized networks)

Key questions
• Which current strategies regarding R&D and demonstration have
been reached and which knowledge has been gained?
• Which are the upcoming demands for R&D- and demonstration-
activities?
• Are there existing potentials for international cooperation with the
experts in the conference?
