This webinar will show how the integration of new biomass production systems into agriculture landscapes can provide bioenergy feedstock while simultaneously reducing current land use impacts. An overview of promising opportunities at the EU level will be followed by a presentation of recent advances in Denmark illustrating the potential for radical innovation to make current agricultural systems more productive and environmentally benign. In the Danish case, the cultivation and refining of grass and legume biomass into protein concentrate and biogas can help boost agriculture output while drastically reducing nitrate leaching. The research at the Aarhus University Centre for Circular Bioeconomy aim to further advance the biorefinery processes as well as the feedstock supply systems. This includes monitoring nitrous oxide emissions, developing methods for grassland reseeding without emissions, and detailed analyses of changes in soil carbon development over time.
