About ICT-AGRI & Purpose of Meeting
BackgroundBackgroundBackgroundBackground
This ERA-NET is of a horizontal nature, relating to the ERA-NET.2008.1 topic of call FP7-ERA-NET-2008-RTD. The ERA-NET relates to Theme 2 (Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, and Biotechnology), Theme 3 (Information and Communication Technologies) and Theme 6 (Environment including Climate Change).
The ERA-NET addresses research on the application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Robotics in Agriculture and related Environmental Issues.
Objectives and PurposeObjectives and PurposeObjectives and PurposeObjectives and Purpose The overall goal with the ERA-NET is the creation of transnational collaboration in the cross-thematic ICT area using common resources and thus strengthening ICT research and technological development activities in Europe. The aim of the ICT-AGRI Kick-Off Meeting is for the ICT-AGRI partners to get to know each other and get familiar with the overall ERA-NET project structure and the Work Packages.
Organisation of KickOrganisation of KickOrganisation of KickOrganisation of Kick----Off MeetingOff MeetingOff MeetingOff Meeting The main activities of the ICT-AGRI Kick-Off Meeting will take place in plenary with two sessions in the programme being dedicated to working groups. The working groups will cover the content of Work Package 2 and Work Package 5 of the ICT-AGRI ERA-Net. WORKING GROUPWORKING GROUPWORKING GROUPWORKING GROUP A A A A –––– Mapping & Analysis of Research Mapping & Analysis of Research Mapping & Analysis of Research Mapping & Analysis of Research The overall aim of this working group is to review, discuss and prepare a work plan for the Work Package 2 – Mapping and Analysis of Existing Research and Future Needs. The outcome of the working group will provide valuable input for the Work Package 2.
The objectives of Work Package 2 is to:
• Systematically gather information on existing research programmes, technology platforms, industry representatives and other resources for ICT, Robotics, Agriculture and Environment within the EU at both national and regional levels.
• Identify common trends and important or emerging needs in ICT, Robotics, Agriculture and Environment.
• Evaluate and analyse this information and compare current research strategies and priorities to identify existing and potential linkages between research programs and industry.
• Identify research gaps and needs.
• Prepare a systematic overview of the European agricultural ICT research infrastructures
• Present information that facilitates an effective use of ICT and robotics contributing to the development of a profitable as well as environmentally sound agricultural sector.
Mapping is the systematically exchange of information and good practises/procedures of existing research programmes and activities. When the mapping information has been collected the next logical step is to analyse the data identifying strengths, weaknesses, gaps and opportunities as well as possibilities for collaboration and coordination. This information therefore serves as important input for the Work Package 3, which is concerned with launching of joint transnational call(s). Cases from other ERA-NETs will be included in the discussions to build and learn from previous experiences. Subjects to be discussed:
Dates and topics for the Workshop on criteria and questionnaire on national research programmes and funding procedures
What methods should be employed to gather and analyse the data collected
What are the expectations and how should the tasks be divided between partners
How to prepare a detailed work plan for the first tasks of the Work Package
Are there overlap to other work packages and how should these be managed
To prepare for the working group participants are expected to be familiar with the description and content of the ICT-AGRI Working Package 2.

and Networksand Networksand Networksand Networks The overall aim of this working group is to review, discuss and prepare a work plan for the Work Package 5 – Establishing and maintaining a framework for long term network and collaboration. The outcome of the working group will provide valuable input for the Work Package 5.
The objectives of Work Package 5 are to create a European open, shared and mutually accessible network during and beyond the life span of the ICT-AGRI ERA-NET that will:
• Allow continued trans-national research activities and develop a framework for long-term networks.
• Ensure the collaboration between different research fields relevant to the stakeholders in order to identify common research subjects.
• Strengthen the cooperation between European, national and local actors and networks most strongly related to the area of ICT through a close exchange of information and collaborations.
Due to the cross thematic nature of this ERA-NET the challenge will be to identify stakeholders and to establish a good information exchange with the relevant organisations and create new collaborations among traditionally isolated research areas. Cases from other ERA-NETs will be included in the discussions to build and learn from previous experiences. Subjects to be discussed:
Dates and topics agreed for the Workshop on establishing and maintaining long-term networks and collaborations
Who are the stakeholders and how should we interact with them What are the expectations and how should the tasks be divided
between partners How to prepare a detailed work plan for the first tasks of the Work
Package To prepare for the working group participants are expected to be familiar with the description and content of the ICT-AGRI Working Package 5.
