A. SAQ

1.  a. What hardware are needed to acces the internet?

Hardware that are needed to acces internet are router and modem.

b.  What software are needed to acces the internet?

Software that are needed to acces internet are browser and e-mail. Browser is

used to find and look at information on the web and e-mail is used to send

and receive massages over internet.

2.  a. Define the terms LAN, WLAN and WAN?

-  LAN : Local Area Network

- WLAN : Wireless Local Area Network

-  WAN : Wide Area Network

b.  What is the difference between a LAN and a WAN?

-  LAN : the size and scope of the network is limited, external

communication media such as a telephone line are not needed, and

typically in a LAN hardware is connected by a cable.

-  WAN : spread over a larger geographical are than a LAN, the greater

distances involved it is not possible to link the computers with cables or

by radio, and uses communication media provided by a third party.

c.  Is the internet a LAN or a WAN?

Internet is a WAN.

4. a. Which Network device can find the best route for a message ?

A Router, it is differs with bridge, it is more intelligent. A Wireless router is

often used to provide a connection between a network and the internet because

of its ability to join together two unlike network ( one of the function)

b. Which network device can connect dissimilar network ?

Bridge , this is the device which allows two dissimilar network to send message

from one to other.

5.  What device is used to protect a school’s network from unauthorised external

acces?

The devise that is used to protect a school’s network from unauthorised external

acces is called firewall.

B. QUESTION

1.  Look back at the section describing how Nabila and Rana set up a home

office networking. Draw a diagram to show how the computers and other

equipment might be connected. Are they using bus network or a star network?

Answer :

They use the bus network because all of computers connected to a cable. Bus

network are cheap and also easy to install. Nabila and Rana use the bus network

becase they didn’t buy hub or switch. This is the diagram of bus network.

2.  Find the examples of networks in your area. Your school is a good place to start as

it may have a number of different networks. You might also consider network in

shops and offices and also in people’s home if there is more than one computer in a

house.

a.  What examples of networks that use cable of differen types as the medium data

tranmision did you find ?

b.  What examples of networks that use wireless transmission of data did you find ?

c. What were the differences in the networks that meant that the different types of transmission media (cable or wireless ) were used ?

Answer :

a.  Bus network

b.  Wi- fi and bluetooth

c.  The deference between cable and wireless is

Usually the networks with cable only can use in some place that have,

but with wireless can use in all of place like bluetooth.

If we use network with cable we must to have extra hardware to allow

the network to operate .

3.  You have seen a number of ways to connect device to enable communication

between them. Investigate the different uses for the different method of data

transmission. Consider the characteristic of different applications for which each

would be useful.

Answer :

A.  Different uses for the different method of data transmission :

1)  The difference of hub and switch

Hub if we send message from 1 device, the message will sent to all device

that connected to the hub, but Switch, if we send one message from one

device, the message will sent only in one device too.

2)  The difference of proxy server and router with router only:

If use router only , will be many connection, that can make the internet

connection slowly. If use router with proxy server, the internet connection

from the user “piggy back” on a single connection to the internet

B. For can be useful

1) Hub can be useful if the device that send message (computer/user) it have

individually/ personality

Switch be useful if we use it in many user that must know the same message

that we make, it is good use in big office2.  Router be useful if the user one only ( in the home/ personality), if the user

so many we must add proxy server for make the connection be single.

5.  If your school has an intranet , why does it have one? If it does not, discuss wheter

or not your school would benefit from one. In either case, describe what it can be

used for by :

a.  Teachers

b.  Students

Answer :

School has intranet because the intranet can access information for the WAN is via

a web Browser . It already can reach all of the school area in each building in the

school, and all can connected in one server (the school). Also the price for pay the

data transmission will be more chip

a.  For the teacher :

Teachers use the WAN to send messages to students about work and also about

clubs and societies. The teacher in charge of the hockey team can send an email

to all the players, marked urgent, telling team that the game this evening is

cancelled. The science teacher can make information available to students in the

form of web pages either from the Internet or created especially for the school

WAN

b.  For the students :

Students have access to various parts of the WAN. It includes an email service

for teachers and for students. Students often use it for handing in homework

which has been done on computer using resources made available on the WAN.
