Abstract Globally, renewable energy is garnering increasingattention due to the confluence of many economic andgeopolitical factors. Efficient use of diverse renewable energysources can pave a path for sustainable development. Planningis underway for building a center for integrated renewableenergy systems at OSU to address several important aspects ofrenewable energy utilization. he basic idea is to harness locallyavailable renewable energy sources to supply various forms ofenergy and other needs in an economical way with far reachingimplications both in developing and developed countries. Goalsset forth in the plan will significantly assist OSU and theresearch group to underta!e activities for wide range ofinvolvement encompassing research, development, educationand training. hese activities aim to support interdisciplinaryresearch, economic development " education that can facilitatethe establishment of an #$ %research, development andtraining& center which can ultimately be incorporated into the'ational Energy Solutions (nstitute %'ES(& also underdevelopment at OSU to enhance the move towards globalsustainability. he energy paths from source to utilization,preliminary design configuration, and appropriate technologiesof (#ES are discussed in this paper. he concept ofintegrating renewable energy systems with emphasis onEnergization of communities is discussed.
