Congratulations! It’s time! Five days, 290 shows, 1.050 artists in 252 bands and God knows how many off-venue shows all over Reykjavík. But that’s not all. There’s the Blue Lagoon Chill, the Ring Lounge, a French showcase, the Cana-dian Blast, the very special off-venue at Vesturbæjarlaugin, the pylsur (ask a local), skyr, rotten shark, excursion tours, the Kiki-Kronik night, Aurora Borealis, brennivín, new romances, old romances and just Reykjavík at its finest ... plus a thousand other things to do. Yeah, the party is on! Good luck fitting it all into your schedule! Icelanders are not particularly good bankers. We seem to be rather bad retailers, too, as was witnessed on Oxford Street and in Copenhagen. But we are good when it comes to culture. Our artists and writers are known all over the world, ever since Snorri Sturluson was around in the early 13th century. The export Vikings of culture have always been successful in this country, but we are at our utmost best when it comes to making music and making it heard around the world. Iceland Airwaves has from the beginning nurtured the fact that music is the core of Iceland, and shows the world that we can do more than just sell cod on the markets of Hull and Hamburg. On behalf of the whole Iceland Airwaves team I welcome you and hope our programming will give you a great experience, lots of fun and some new friendships! See you in the crowd!

InforMatIon centerThe Airwaves Centre is an indispensable part of the festival. Through the years it has been located at various bars/restaurants in downtown Reykjavík, in walking distance from all the festival venues. At the Airwaves Centre, festival goers can pick up their festival passes and media passes, purchase Airwaves t-shirts and CDs, annoy the Airwaves staff with weird questions and hook up with likeminded festival friends. This year the Airwaves Centre will be located at the Hotel Plaza, right in the city centre—very close to the main festival venues. Hotel Plaza is equipped with wireless internet, too.

NOTE: Please bring your midi.is email confirmation and photo ID, and we will give you your festival or media pass. Ring and Iceland Airwaves have teamed up to bring you something new for 2010 - the Ring Lounge. The Ring Lounge is located in a specially pimped-up marquee in the garden of Airwaves favourite café Hressó. Open from midday everyday, it’s a place to share a beer or a coffee with your mates (new and old), do some work, make some contacts and most importantly: listen to some fine local and international bands perform.

59’sThursday – 19:30 – SódómaIf you fancy getting your quiff on, then the 59’s will provide the rockabilly stomp to accompany it! Expect to see a double bass thrown around like a cheerleader’s baton. BC

ÆLaFriday – 02:00 – FaktorýOff-the-wall twangy twit-punk at its showiest, Æla’s disgusting antics and distasteful tuneless-ness never fail to amuse.

aMfj Saturday – 20:00 – TjarnabíóViolently blaring bleats of distorted noise and sound destruction make AMFJ a one-man force to be reckoned with. Try not to bleed too much on the dance floor when your eardrums explode.

200 (fo)Saturday – 01:20 – AmsterdamThere must be something in the water in the Faroe Islands because they sure know how to rock! 200 take your classic Cult/Stooges/Mötorhead hard rock sound and infuse a satirical edge to create something unique and provoking.

7BergThursday – 20:50 – VenueThis chilled out rapper puts the real craft into his beats, with off-kilter tunes and exotic mid-‘90s samples a la Wu-Tang clan.

agent frescoWednesday – 23:20 – NASASaturday – 22:00 - SódómaWith some seriously powerful rock sagas and intense stage dynamics, it’s no wonder they are such a well-loved bunch here in Iceland.

aLcoHoLIc faItH MIssIon (dk)Saturday – 23:40 – Faktorý Possibly the coolest band name of the festival, these rugged Danes provide a stirring melodic soundtrack to wistful indulgence. You got love? They got shellfish!

aLeX MetrIc feat. cHarLI XcX (Uk) Friday – 01:10 – NASAAlex has been a busy boy this year combining playing at several major festivals, crafting some of the summer’s best remixes and producing his own flavour of ‘80s big beat electro. He‘s bringing his friend Charli XCX to ensure no one is left alive.

aMIInaThursday – 20:30 – ListasafnAmiina have been enveloping the Icelandic experimental scene with gloriously expansive and sweeping sonic landscapes for over a decade now, and show no signs of drawing an end onto their very minimal map.

andvarISaturday – 20:00 – RisiðPleasant sounds from melodic guitars and a lovely voice make this a low-key post-rock band worth watching closely.

angeL deradoorIan (Us)Friday – 22:30 – TjarnarbíóThe smooth sounds of this soulful young Brooklynite are sure to raise the hairs on the back of your neck, as well as excite the brain inside the head that rests on top of said neck with clever loops and original instruments. Did we mention she’s one of the Dirty Projectors? Because she is!

angIstFriday – 19:10 – SódómaNewcomers to the Icelandic metal scene, Angist are a female fronted band that look to bring out your inner Valkyrie bloodlust. Perfect with Brennivín.

apparat organ QUartetSaturday – 23:00 – NASALegends in their own right, they made Super-Nintendo sounding techie-rock a thing of class and beauty. Their shows are rare, unmissable occasions. Must see.

arnLjótUrWednesday – 20:30 – FaktorýArnljótur is a member of pretty much every band in Reykjavík. His solo electronic/organ performances are reminiscent of Tangerine Dream and ambient Eno, evoke Tim Curry with horns, riding upon large white flying dog-dragons.

aUtodrone (Us)Wednesday – 22:00 – SódómaAs dark and intense as the black hole they came from, Autodrone channel gothic chimes and shoegaze distortion to create a swirling rock mael-strom that will blow you away if you let it.

Bang gangSaturday – 20:20 – ListasafnIcelandic super-producer Barði Jóhannsson’s melodic pop band has changed members and styles many times since 1996, but it’s definitely here to stay.

BárUjárnFriday – 01:10 – AmsterdamGothabilly surfpunk from a foursome of anarchist hippie freegans with a penchant for nuding up on celluloid. Go for the theremin, stay for the gloom.

BasIa BULat (ca) Saturday – 23:20 – IðnóThis multi-instrumental folky songstress is inspired by oldies radio stations and from the quiet solitude of the Yukon.

BastardgeIst (Us)Friday – 23:20 – FaktorýHaunted loops and wisps of digital noise and childlike vocals from this US duo.

BennI HeMM HeMMWednesday – 22:50 - VenueThursday – 21:40 – TjarnarbíóDespite moving to Scotland, Benedikt H. Hermannsson still has his heart in Iceland and with a new LP being released; we can expect more of his special brand of folk-pop brilliance.

Benny crespo’s gangWednesday – 21:40 – NASASaturday – 02:40 – SódómaLocal legends containing such luminaries as Helgi Rúnar on vocals and Lay Low on keyboard, you know you’re going to be given a good time. Raw aggressive indie-rock at its finest.

BerndsenFriday – 20:50 – NASADavid Berndsen has an eye for the sublime. His debut album mixed ‘80s style synth-pop with a stage persona every bit as colourful. All he wants is that you bring yourself, while he brings the love.

BIggIBIXThursday – 20:00 – IðnóHailing from that well known cultural hot spot of Ísafjörður, Biggibix is a difficult pop beast to pin down. Mixing US alt-rock with Icelandic pop sensibility, he tells it to you straight.

BIogenSaturday – 22:20 – TjarnarbíóBiogen is a guy who never stands still, musically speaking. Stretching electro and techno bounda-ries to breaking point, he needs your assistance in bringing the house down.

BLaz rocaThursday – 00:30 – VenueXXX Rottweiler rhymer and the eponymous voice on Sykur’s club smash-hit ‘Viltu Dick?’. If you don’t catch him live, you can probably go hang with him at Prikið.

BLoodgroUpWednesday – 22:30 – NASAFriday – 21:40 - NASATransplanted from Egilsstaðir, this darkstar electro group turns crowds into dance floors under any condition. Their beats will infect your feet.

BoMBay BIcycLe cLUB (Uk)Saturday – 22:40 – ListasafnA fearsome foursome of North London youths armed with upbeat indie-rock tunes and a fun, playful attitude. Watch out for pandas and flying bottles of Jack.

BorkoSaturday – 21:10 – FaktorýIcelandic music scene mainstay Borko has toured the world with múm and Seabear, and released his début ‘Celebrating Life’ on Morr Music. The eclectic sound is hard to pigeonhole, but his label and choice of touring partners should give some clue.

BróðIr svartúLfsThursday – 20:20 – FaktorýMixing rock and rap can be difficult at the best of times. Bróðir Svartúlfs happily accept such a chal-lenge with glee. And boy do they succeed.

BUXnaskjónarWednesday – 19:30 – AmsterdamAkureyri’s Buxnaskjónar have a keen ear for vicious punk hooks and rotten slogans… though come to think of it, people who don’t speak Icelandic probably won’t be entertained by song titles such as ‘Fjallamjólkin springur á miðnætti’. Oh, well. You can always come to the show and make up your own lyrics.

captaIn fUfanUFriday – 21:50 – Apótekið Airwaves ClubSaturday - 21:40 - TjarnarbióIntelligent techno from the new captains of Icelandic house proves that the thinking man can also appreciate the 4/4 bass drum.

caterpILLarMenFriday – 23:20 – AmsterdamThe spirit of Prog and Krautrock is alive and well with these bunch of young noodlers. Expect chunky Hammond organ solos and psychedelic freakouts of a bizarre nature.

cHâteaU MarMont (fr)Friday – 20:00 – ListasafnCool, studied French electro retro chic. These cool cats formulate haunting space disco that melds robot voices with TRON and Jean Michel Jarre. No mean feat!

cItIes Between UsThursday – 19:30 – FaktorýHow many bands can say they met their frontman online? Well this one can. Expect hard rockers having fun with no shirts on.

cLIff cLavInWednesday 23:40 - SódómaSaturday – 00:30 – AmsterdamThis grunge-revivalist four-piece formed in 2006 and went on to become a staple of Icelandic rock radio. They are now working with Grammy win-ning producers and going international.

codes In tHe cLoUds (Uk)Saturday – 20:50 – IðnóCodes in the clouds are a UK five-piece that sim-ply make beautiful music. You could call it ‘Post Rock’ but that would just be insulting their lush and tender sounds that will leave you all in a tizzy.

crocodILes (Us)Saturday – 22:50 – SódómaTake two guys and lock them in a basement with only Spiritualized and Jesus & Mary Chain records for ten years and this is the outcome. Starlight pop music with a serrated distortion dimension.

cynIc gUrUSaturday – 19:30 – SódómaHe learned the violin, but that was not enough to keep Roland Hartwell satisfied, so he and his mates created this band to get their psychedelic rock kicks.

dan deacon (Us)Sunday – 22:00 – NASAThis Baltimore hipster king of bleeps and bloops is renowned for his totally wild dance party shows, where running around in a circle is half the fun. Beards and thick-rims galore.

deep jIMI & tHe zep creaMsThursday – 21:10 – SódómaAs the name suggests these guys are RAWK of the old school variety. Expect big meaty riffs and sounds about immigrants and birds that are free and stuff.

dIaMond rIngs (ca) Saturday - 22:30 - VenueLike an explosion of lo-fi colour, Diamond Rings brings his special brand of electro pop and classy outfits to overload your senses.

dIddI feL & tHe forgotten LoresThursday - 23:20 - VenueDiddi Fel (of Forgotten Lores infamy) has been one of Iceland’s premier rappers for a long while now. It’s not for lack of challengers, though, this MC just has a natural flow and way with words that just won’t stop.

dIktaWednesday - 00:30 - SódómaFriday - 21:50 - ListasafnOfficially the nation’s favourite band. We know this because they won the most popular band award at this year’s Icelandic Music awards. And who could deny their anthemic rock tunes, soar-ing harmonies and all ‘round brilliant atmosphere.

dj BensoLFriday – 01:00 – Apótekið Airwaves ClubHe’s been around the electronic scene since the ‘90s but didn’t hit the decks until last year. Now he’s played every club in town and drops house mixes like they’re hot.

dj cassanovaFriday – 03:40 - Apótekið Airwaves ClubBack to rock the beat at Airwaves 2010, this heavyweight house hitter is sure to keep those heads throbbing and bodies hopping till dawn. And maybe dusk again.

dj fLUgvéL & geIMskIpSaturday – 20:30 – TjarnarbíóDJ Airplane and Spaceship tells us her views on summer, ice cream and aliens with innocent, child-like vocals and introspective Casio experimentation.

dj MargeIrSaturday – 02:00 - Apótekið Airwaves ClubDJ Margeir is one of Iceland’s best-known spin-ners and has performed remixes for the likes of Sigur Rós, Gus Gus and DJ Trentemöller. A man very much in demand.

dLX atXFriday – 01:00 – FaktorýIrish expat Greg Barrett has a rotating line-up of players in his super grimy noise-punk act, but no matter who’s playing it is sure to be complete pandemonium.

doMInIQUe yoUng UnIQUe (Us)Thursday – 22:30 – VenueThis Florida rapper is literally a force of nature made flesh. Her electro rap stylings crackle with electricity and attitude to power of X. Watch and let your ears be given a beat down.

efterkLang (dk)Thursday – 21:40 – ListasafnThis twinkly experimental Danish band are no small blip on the radar and are only getting stronger, having collaborated with bands such as Grizzly Bear and local act Amiina.

eLín eyFriday – 20:50 – RisiðShe comes from a family of musical legends and now Elín has carved her own place as a sultry-voiced songwriter guaranteed to give you the twelve-bar blues.

eLíza newManFriday – 01:00 – RisiðShe sang a song about the world’s most unpro-nounceable volcano eruption. And the former Bellatrix singer has many more perky pop nuggets in her sack of delights.

eMMsjé gaUtIThursday – 21:40 – VenueLocal rap wonder prodigy, he’s now reached the heights of the Icelandic premier league of rap. Expect lots of R&B smoothness and phat beats.

endLess dark Friday – 22:30 – SódómaThey’ve been gigging together less than a year but the future looks bright for Iceland’s rising stars. Their scream-core (via crab-core) metal sound has proved immensely popular with the rock crowd here (and elsewhere).

ensíMIThursday – 22:00 – NASASuperstars of mid-‘90s Icelandic indie rock, Ensími regrouped last year to a warm, loving welcome. They are the kind of nostalgia that you didn’t need to hear the first time around.

epIc raInThursday – 19:00 – TjarnarbíóLebanese born musician Epic Rain touts himself as being ‘not ordinary’. Hip-hop infused with a twist of jazz, indie, folk and ‘70s rock? Well, that’s definitely not ordinary.

everytHIng everytHIng (Uk)Friday – 22:50 – ListasafnHailing from Manchester, these guys chuck everything into the blender. Pop, post punk, funk and ‘80s white boy soul. And you know what? It tastes great!

evIL Madness & jóHann jóHannsonWednesday – 23:30 – FaktorýIf there can ever be such a thing as an Icelandic electronic supergroup, then Evil Darkness are such a beast. They produce soundscapes that can easily soundtrack that ‘70s zombie movie in your mind. And Jóhann Jóhansson’s playing with them! Sheesh!

ewok & kaLLIThursday – 22:00 – Apótekið Airwaves ClubThe Iceland dynamic duo of dubstep and breakbeat will be looking to shake things up with banging bass and skittering syncopated beats.

fM BeLfastSunday – 23:00 – NASAFirst they took Reykjavík, now they are taking the world. The funnest band in town has been all over the damn place in the last year and we can only hope they brought us back a big gift.

saktMóðIgUrFriday – 02:00 – AmsterdamGoing strong for twenty years now, this dark punk band defined the Icelandic sound. Now they still tear it up hard with as much filth and fury as when they were kids.

saMúeL j. saMúeLsson BIg BandSunday – 21:00 – NASAThere are times when all you can do is BRING ON THE FUNK! And Samúel and his big band deliver it in spades. A riot of ‘70s funkadelic and stinky jazz sounding like all your favourite TV cop shows rolled into one.

save pUBLIcSaturday - 01:50 - RisiðStarting off as Formaður Dagsbrúnar, the side project of Þormóður Dagsson (Skakkaman-age, Jeff Who?, Hudson Wayne), big things are expected of Save Publics’ synth-drenched folk pop. Think Van Morrison arm wrestling ELO and you get the idea.

seXy LazerFriday – 02:00 - Apótekið Airwaves ClubOur DJs are very introverted and self-examining. They know who they are and the name says it all. This hot piece of deep house is no exception and will zap you with his hotness.

s.H. draUMUrThursday – 23:00 – NASAWe thought they had been killed off, but you can’t keep that post-punk spirit down for long. After seventeen years away, the band of local rock legend Dr Gunni will be reuniting for a one off show. Expect half the country to lose their shit by the first song.

sIgUrðUr gUðjónssonSaturday – 21:15 – TjarnarbíóIt’s impossible to simply describe Sigurður as a musician or to place him under any context. He’s a multi-platform composer whose visuals are as integral as the sound.

sILver coLUMns (Uk)Friday – 00:30 – VenueBy day they practice folk music, but by night Silver Columns practice the most deviant of electro pop mutations. Think hot chip and you’re 73% there already.

sIMon says no! (no)Saturday – 00:30 – FaktorýThe main course on the menu from Simon Says No is rich meaty chunks of shoegaze guitar noise with a side order of pile-driver rhythm. You’ll lap it up!

sIndrI eLdonThursday – 00:30 – RisiðWhether it’s fronting the scuzz metal of Slugs, or providing the bass with rock bastards Dynamo Fog, Sindri Eldon is a one man war against tedium and sterility. Is not afraid of aliens, apparently.

sIn fangWednesday – 00:30 – VenueAfter dropping the Bous for not pulling its weight, the solo project of Seabear’s Sindri Már Sigfús-son can now concentrate on creating his top notch folk magic.
