    whichsportsaparticularsportspersonhasbeenassociatedwith. Therefore,wearegiving

    belowthelistofthesportspersonswhohaverecentlybeenthewinneratCWG2014. In

    additiontothis,wearealsogivingthelistofArjunAwardeesof2014andotheraward

    winners, sothatyouarewellpreparedevenifquestionsareaskedaboutsportspersonwho

    havebeenrecentlyhonouredwithtopsportingawards.

    History

    AfterWorldWarII,numberofnewcountriesbecameindependentinAsia,includingIndia. Manyof

    thenewlyindependentAsiancountriesdesiredtheformationofanewtypeofcompetitionwherein

    Asiancountrieshavetheirowngames. Theideawasdiscussedduring1948OlympicGamesheldat

    London.

    Finally,on13thFebruary, 1949,anewbodyAsianAthleticFederation(AAF)wasformedinNew

    Delhi,alongsidethenameAsianGamesFederation,withNewDelhiannouncedasthefirsthostcityof

    theAsianGames. ItwasanefforttoinitiateapeaceprocessbetweenAsiannations,makingsports

    thebindingfactor.However,atthattimetherewereonly11participatingcountries(Afghanistan,

    Burma,India,Indonesia,Iran,Japan,Nepal,Philippines,Singapore,SriLankaandThailand), inthe

    event,competinginameresixsportscategories(athletics,aquatics,basketball, cycling,footballand

    weightlifting.). ThefirstAsiadwasscheduledfor1950butactuallyheldinMarch1951.Thesecond

    Gameswereheldin1954,andsincethantheseareheldeveryfourthyear. Japanwerethewinnersof

    theveryfirstAsianGames.

    However,after

    three

    successful

    Asian

    Games,

    certain

    controversies

    cropped

    in

    and

    the

    federation

    startedhavingdisagreementsoveravarietyofissues,includingtheparticipationoftheRepublicof

    ChinaandIsrael. Thus,certainnationsbackedofffromhostingtheGames.However,thesegames

    havebeenheldeveryfouryears.

    Till1978,thegameswereheldunderthebannerofAsianGamesFederation. LateronOlympic

    committeesofmembernationsreconstitutedthe

    AGF, astheOlympicCouncilofAsia. Sincethe1982GameshavebeenorganizedbytheOlympic

    CouncilofAsia(OCA). Thus,nowafterover63yearswhenthesegamessawthelightoftheday, this

    eventhasbecome worldssecondlargestsportsevent,surpassedingrandeuronlybytheOlympics.

    All45membersaffiliatedtotheOlympicCouncilofAsia(OCA)areeligibletotakepartintheGames.

    Inhistory,

    Olympic

    Committees

    (NOCs)

    have

    sent

    competitors

    to

    the

    Games.

    However,

    IsraelhasbeenexcludedfromtheGamessince1976,thereasoncitedasbeingduetosecurity

    reasons.

    Interestingly,onlysevencountries,namelyIndia,Indonesia,Japan,thePhilippines,SriLanka,

    SingaporeandThailandhavecompetedinalleditionsofAsiad.

    AspertheAsianGameshistory,athletesfromJapanandChinahavedominatedtheproceedingsinthe

    eventsoftheGames,baggingnumerousmedalsandemergingasthestandoutperformers. Bangkok

    istheonlycitytohavehostedthequadrennialeventfourtimes.Important venues (fromthepointof
